Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa m230 512 MB MP3 Player (Blue)

Customer Review: a good entry level choice in MP3
Summary: 4 Stars

This unit is a great, very basic entry level into MP3. Sansa is a well-known and established producer of digital storage products, and this player is probably the lowest-priced offering currently from a true player in the market.

An Ipod it's not, but it's less than thirty bucks. SanDisk makes much larger and more impressive players. But this little guy fills a void-the "cheap" yet quality player-that does the business but is almost throw-away. It's not nearly as big a deal if you drop this guy while jogging or if someone lifts it.

512k is pretty small by today's standard, but I didn't expect to pack my entire CD collection on it. Load it up with favorites, and you're set for a flight to Europe or a long day at the office or riding a lawnmower.

The sound quality is decent, and the phones are comfortable and add value to the player.

It's also priced reasonably enough to purchase, load up with some music and give to someone as a gift. Put twenty bucks worth of music on it, and you hand someone a wonderful present of their favorite music for a good price.

I'm using a rechargeable AAA battery with good success.

All in all, a decent player at an outstanding price for an entry or second/third/backup player. It's whetted my appetite for the bigger guys but this one will have a long useful life.

Customer Review: A great first MP3 player! Cool features and a great price too!
Summary: 4 Stars

Sandisk's MP3 players have really come into their own. Not only are they packed with features, but the price is reasonable. Sandisk has come a long way from their original Digital Audio Player.

This model has tons of things going for it.
- great sound, nothing not to like there
- light-weight
- FM tuner
- voice recording
- ergonomic design
- great navigation and sorting features
- Microsoft PlaysForSure compatible (for those who are into that)
- USB 2.0 connectivity
- replaceable battery!!!

The cons are minor in my opinion
- limited shuffle features
- built-in microphone could have been improved
- mediocre backlight
- slower transfer speed on older computers

For those needing more space, the Sansa M240 and M250 offer more space in the same form factor. This unit is not ideal for those who primarily want to use it for recording. Sony's various models are all superior in that regard.

One thing I have to wonder is why Sandisk didn't include an SD slot in this bad boy. I've already seen a few similar players with them.

I took a test drive and I liked it so much, I bought it as a holiday gift for a friend. I would definitely recommend it. I wanted to keep it myself, but I'm gonna get my own instead. :)

Enjoy!

Customer Review: The Little MP3 That Could
Summary: 5 Stars

I have several of the Sandisk Sansa in the style listed here. I know there are many other MP3 players on the market with much more storage capacity and I just have to say POOH on that. This little player is easy to use I have one full of my audible audio books others filled with music and no charged 1 simple triple A battery and I have at least 20 hours of play. For the price it is a great starter for those still unsure of what to buy. Although I do recommend the 2 gig version simply for the storage space.

My only negative comment is that the removal of items from the player isn't always easy it will show you it has been removed but the space won't be open.

Like I said 1 complaint isn't bad at all. The worst thing I have found is I misplace mine a lot:) But that's on me.

Trust me, I bought a very expensive Memorex Mp3 and it was the worst mistake of my life needed to charge constantly and the menu was a nightmare. My parents being parents got me an RCA MP3 for Christmas last year. Like the Memorex since both are charged via USB the battery never stayed charged as it should have.

I do not mind products such as the Sandisk Sansa that use actual batteries. They are reliable and easily replaceable some last several days if I use it a lot. My only wish was I could get one with about a 10 gig HD or better.

Customer Review: Great for Travel and Home Use
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this because it was so darn cheap, and expected it to break within 6 months because I have a bad habit of constantly dropping electronics. I've dropped it many, many times, and my trusty Sansa has never let me down! I've had it for over a year now, and I took it backpacking around Europe for a month and it was PERFECT. It has a sleep timer so I could fall asleep on the trains without draining the battery. It holds enough music so that I never got tired of the songs, and it is very durable. When I'm at home, it's perfect for going to the gym and going running.

It's certainly not as compact as, say, an iPod shuffle, but it's also about $60 less and performs a much greater range of functions. It shuffles albums, repeats songs, and is very user friendly. What a great mp3 player! I got an iPod nano because it came free with the MacBook, and my dad immediately snapped up my Sansa because the type was big enough that he didn't have to use reading glasses. So I guess this player also transcends age gaps. This is a great mp3 player, because of both its amazing price and its great quality. I love it! I'm traveling internationally in the near future, and intend on borrowing it back from my dad because it uses batteries instead of a charger so I don't have to worry about plug compatibility or accessibility. I very highly recommend the Sansa!

Customer Review: How to play songs in track order
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought it from Circuit city. It was running an old firmware and songs could only be played in alphabetical order. Renaming the file names to begin with numbers didn't help. Then I downloaded the lastest firmware from sandisk website. Problem solved after the firmware update.
To update the firmware,
(1) downloaded the firmware to your PC and run it.
(2) During the installation, you are prompted to connect the player to PC. Before connection, you need to power off the player and put it at 'Hold' postion( a orange mark will show).
(3) Follow the instructions on screen for the rest.

Overall, I found this player very good.
Prons,
(1) sound quality is excellent. I encoded mp3s in 320kbps, which sound really good. You may need to adjust the equalizer a bit to get your favarite sound. Try the 'custom' equalizer, works really well for me. Earphone is good enough.
(2) I put mp3s in folder structre as mp3s->artist->album, that's three levels. The player find all songs in sub-directory. I read somewhere that some Creative models only read upto 2 levels.
(3) FM radio and voice recorder are nice features. Many other products at this price range don't offer these.

Cons,
(1) Doesn't look that well.
(2) Should build the the right/left earphone in different shapes.
