Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa c250 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)

Customer Review: Very good MP3 player
Summary: 5 Stars

I did quite a bit of research to get this one. and here are the reasons, I arrived at this decision:

Pro:
Size: It is pretty small yet not hard to use the controls
FM Radio: That's pretty nice in such a small MP3 player. Top that iPod
Expansion slot: The micro SD card makes this player future proof. Have more music to upload? get a card and you are done. iPod doesn't have it.
Voice recorder: was not on my wish list, but nice to have.
changable battery: battery goes bad, you can change it. iPod can't do this.
If you hit a button by accident while listening to the music, the button just wakes up the device then you can tell it what to do. Small feature but saves a LOT of annoying moments.
Sound is pretty good, unlike some reviews I have read. It is pretty much in par with other MP3 players especially iPod which is the benchmark these days.
Price: half of iPod Nano.

Con:
The package only comes with a USB charger. I have seen some plugs that have a USB output, or you can get their optional AC adapter.
Memory slot although nice, but there is no dummy card in it to avoid things getting stuck in it, so I just put a cheapy micro SD to fill the hole.
The screen could use some more contrast or better color scheme to display the menu better. You get used to it right away, but I am being super crtitcal here.

Customer Review: Don't Waste Your Money
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a device with a lot of glitches in it. Combine with the poorest of customer service, and you get a piece of junk.

1. The interface is overly sensitive. Any little movement can cause a change or a skip.

2. The backlit screen is blue based, and a little blue dot rather than a highlight bar indicates which song you're on. The problem is that the blue dot blends in with the screen. Sometimes you're not sure where you're at.

3. The manual that comes with it is a sheet that really tells you nothing. If you want a fuller manual, you have to go online and download it.

4. There's a lot of skipping for no apparent reason. Call customer service and they'll tell you nothing's wrong. Most of the reps sound young, in a hurry, and rude. They'll resychronize your gadget, tell you that should do it, and then it goes right back to skipping. You can make a million calls, doesn't matter.

Sandisk's HQ is very polite and professional, but there is a big disconnect between their corporate offices and their workforce.

5. Their connectivity cable is proprietary to Sandisk, can't be bought elsewhere except online at their store. Except now they're out of it, and will be for more than a month. So if you lose your cable or damage it, then what?

I wish I had bought an iPod.

Customer Review: With only a month's use, stopped working
Summary: 2 Stars

We got Sansa c250 for my son because I was trying to avoid spending the bigger bucks on an iPod. I guess you get what you pay for.

It worked great for the first month. Very easy file transfer, though I did have to convert the songs I had downloaded on iTunes for use on my iPod. But that is an Apple/iTunes issue, not specific to this Sansa.

After about a month, the battery life became very short. Maybe an hour of play and it would have to be recharged. Within a couple of weeks of the battery problems, the unit started locking up. It would stop playing mid-song and the menu buttons did not work. I could not start the song, or even turn off the mp3 player. In order to un-lock it, I would have to remove the battery, wait about 30 seconds, replace it, and start over. Another 2 or 3 songs would play, and it would stop again. It did not turn itself off (as I have read in some other reviews), just the song would stop playing and the display was stuck. The screen looked as if the song was paused, but none of the buttons worked.

My other son had received the SanDisk Fuze as a gift and we had no problems with it. So - I replaced the Sansa c250 with the Fuze and have had no problems since.

The c250 is extremely light, feels very cheap, IS cheap - and apparently you do get what you pay for.

Customer Review: Drop Some extra bucks on a Zune or an Ipod
Summary: 1 Stars

The Sandisk Sansa is by far the worst MP3 Player I have owned. Sure, it worked great for 2 weeks and it had some features that many MP3 players don't have like FM radio and voice recording. I thought I got a hell of a deal buying this for 42 dollars but boy was I wrong. I started having issues with the battery about 15 days after I had it, the battery was running out in about 1.5 hours which was not what I expected (having trusted Sandisk's products for many years now). I didn't really mind this because when I listened to music it wasn't for long periods of time, however a few days later the sound output was not working, and I switched out like 4 pair of headphones but I realized the MP3 Player had the problem. I called customer service, which was a bit hard to communicate with but they got the job done nontheless. About a week after recieving my second Sansa it started having software issues, deleting my songs, and shutting off unexpectedly. It eventually got to the point (in about a week) where you would turn it on and it would turn off about a minute into a song. I probably could've filed for another one but I decided not to since it wasn't worth it. I was very dissapointed with Sandisk with this product and will surely stick to my ipod, which I've had for a year and is still going great. Just keep that in mind when buying this MP3 player.

Customer Review: OK, but has many problems
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had this product for about 6 months - I have used this extensively and here is my conclusion

Pros:
- Small portable player
- LCD screen for navigating files, although it is really made for menus and not picture viewing.
- Navigating through songs is fairly easy, "go list" is helpful.
- Microphone recording
- FM radio w/ recording

Cons:
- Files that are transfered on to the device are often (always) corrupted. Happens constantly for me, even when i re-transfer them. My guess is that either the proprietary USB cable is broken or the flash memory is crappy
- EXTREMELY flimsy, is not sturdy at all, and the plastic on the sides can be pushed in.
- Am now having problems with the headphone jack
- Must use Windows Media Player to create playlists.
- Proprietary USB cable, so if it breaks you have to order a new one from them for much more than a standard USB cable. There is no need for a proprietary USB cable on this player except to screw customers over.

This player is great in terms of functionality but when it comes to quality this player falls short. It is poorly constructed and defiantly not as solid as many phones and other players. Bottom line if you're going to spend this much you may as well spend a little more GET SOMETHING BETTER.
