Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa c250 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: Nice little MP3 player Summary: 5 Stars
I think that for such an inexpensive MP3 player, the Sansa c250 is terrific. I have a fairly critical ear and I believe that the quality of the provided earphones is very good. The unit itself is very easy to setup and use. I purchased a refurbished model that did not come with instructions. Still, I just plugged it into my computer and the rest was a piece of cake.
Here are some positives and a few nitpicky negatives:
Positives:
1. Intuitive and simple interface.
2. Built-in digital recorder.
3. Expandable memory via optional MicroSD card.
4. Has FM stereo which sounds pretty decent.
5. Good-sounding earphones.
6. User-replacable battery.
7. Interfaces nicely with Windows Media Player.
8. Good volume.
9. Excellent battery life.
10. Built-in graphic equalizer with presets and custom options.
11. Battery charges quickly.
Negatives:
1. Display shows fingerprints easily.
2. Bluetooth would be nice.
3. Internal memory of 2gb could be better, but again you can expand it.
4. I wish it had a strap to hand the unit around my neck.
5. AC adapter would be helpful.
Be aware that I purchased 2 refurbished units and while 1 was defective, the other one was just fine. Both looked new. I am not anticipating any difficulties getting the bad one replaced. So given the features and quality of this unit and taking into account its low price, I'd give it 5 stars and my recommendation.
Customer Review: Lots of potential, but it is wasted Summary: 1 Stars
A great little player and recorder when it works. I am on my third unit as the first two had major issues and would freeze on start up. The problem seems to be in the way that the unit handles either malformed mp3s or mp3s that are encoded with abr/vbr options. The player just doesn't recognize them and will get stuck because it doesn't know to skip things that it cannot see. Lately my player has been not displaying the main internal memory when I connect it to the computer. It will only show the small 16MB partition that you can use in an emergency to restore firmware to the unit. Perhaps that is a bit of an omen that I should pay attention to.
It only likes certain kinds of mini-SD cards. Take a look around on the net before purchasing a 2GB mini card to expand the memory of the unit. Yes, mini-SD cards should be a standard part, I have no idea why some brands work and others do not.
Can be excruciatingly slow to start up if you use it in MSC mode at all instead of MTP, because it needs to rebuild a table of all of the files on the drive in order to know which mp3s live on the drive.
The unit is a great size. Comfortable to hold and use. Audio recording is excellent and perfect for taping classes. Battery life is good considering the size. If it were not for the firmware issues, then this would be a first rate product instead of a brick waiting to happen.
I am on my fourth unit after several RMAs. Is it so hard to ask for a unit that just works?
Customer Review: OK MP3 Player but... Summary: 2 Stars
It has a lot of problems. The version I have is a 1 GB one the same model as this just less memory, I got it for about 70 dollars in January of 2007 and heres what happened. At first this was a good MP3 player it worked great and the sound was good and I really liked it for a long time till July thats when the problems came in. Well my sound was starting to die so I got new headphones... They didnt work so again I got new headphones... DIDNT WORK...
I soon realized it wasn't the headphones but more the MP3 player it self and the headphone jack was dying down. It was still okay to use I could put the headphone wires in a position and the sound would be fine. By November though they were starting to go down, the sound wasnt really working at all but I stuck with it for another month. By December though I had enough, I than got a 4 GB iPod Nano 3rd Gen(see my review 2nd page) the iPod has been working great I have no problems with it the screen and the whole thing itself is so much better than this mp3 player.
As you can see Sansa Sandisk MP3 Players are pretty cheap and bulky and the screen size sucks and the quaility is not good at all. But the MP3 player itself still works I use to record stuff but thats about it. An MP3 player thats good only for someone that uses it for excercise but even than i reccomend going with the iPod shuffle instead. Do not buy these mp3 players they may not cost anything so just get an ipod
Customer Review: Granny killer Summary: 1 Stars
This might or might not be a fine piece of modern equipment. But how could one tell, unless there is a young person around to fill it with music? This MP3 player has the worst set of "instructions" I have ever tried to comprehend (with no success) and the phone help only further confuses. Sansa does have online videos to explain the c250, but they are full of incomprehensible jargon and so incredibly condescending that I can hear them laughing at me. (They have this strange mantra: it is very simple, Simply, simple. If it were simply I would never have tried to watch those videos.) Very frustrating. My visiting technical expert with the same MP3 player said he'd never read his instructions, but figured it out on his own. (He can use it, but does not use all the advertised features.) I showed him the miserable instructions, and this geeky kid even said they were awful. So: do NOT buy this if you are over 30, want to listen to a book on tape (the only place you can reach is the beginning), like clear instructions, prefer phone technicians that clarify things, and wish to retain your dignity. The worst set of instructions that ever went out with a consumer product. OH: I wanted to hook this MP3 player to my car radio, and the phone person 1. told me the wrong product to order and 2. promised but never sent information about the product. Very poor information over the phone. I want to rant on, but will stop for your sake now.
Customer Review: Couldn't be happier Summary: 5 Stars
Although I considered getting a newer player with video capability, I've been more than pleased with the Sansa C250. The price/performance point is just about perfect!
I've had mine for about 6 weeks, and I use it primarily when running. It has been a dream to use. The setup and driver installation is simple, and I've had no problems using Windows Media player as my interface. Removing files is simple, by treating the connected player as a memory device, and going through My Computer to find and delete what I want changed. Genres and cover art install automatically when synchronizing.
Sound quality is very good. I am not an audio snob, but I like good fidelity -- and the player delivers very nice sound, even with the bundled ear buds. I don't find any reason to buy fancier ones.
My only gripe is a fairly awkward system for setting up playlists. The player groups songs by artist, album, and genre automatically; but, if you want any other sorting you better do it on the computer in your media player. The C250's menu and playlist selection system is hideously limited and slow. Another minor quibble is the way the volume control defaults to the uncomfortably loud midpoint on startup, instead of using the last volume setpoint.
Even with these in mind, I still rate the player as 5 stars. It's hard to find a product that will give anywhere near as much at this price point!
