Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa c250 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: The warrior of MP3's Summary: 5 Stars
I have now owned the Sandisk Sansa c250 for over 4 years and it still works! And that's saying a lot considering I put it through the washer and dryer more than once during those 4 years. It bounced back each time with very little trouble. I use it so much that I rubbed power sign off the face of the button, so I definitely know what I'm talking about. :)
Pros:
-Micro SD expandable memory is a great benefit that many other players don't have.
-compact design
-volume control of Normal or High (High is a handy setting for if you plan to play a song through external speakers and normal is better for conserving battery power.)
-Does a decent job on recording voice and has a handy button on the side for switching to record mode. (But not so handy as to go off when unwanted, at least it never did that to me! :D)
-Organizes music in lists of each artist, album, song, genres, recordings (voice and FM), audio books (I've never put an audio book on the c250.).
- equalizer settings such as rock, pop, jazz, classical and custom.
- Photos so you can see all the album art that goes with the songs etc.
- battery life is vary long about 20-25 hours.
- And generally a good rugged little player.
Cons:
- A little on the thick side, about two pencils thick.
- Does not play videos. But who wants to watch a video on such a small screen anyway. And in my opinion all the MP3 players that can play video have a screen to small to consider it much of an advantage. The screen on the c250 is big enough to show what is necessary and it's in color. :)
Overall this is a warrior of an MP3 player and worth the five stars!
Customer Review: Nice Entry-Level MP3 Player Summary: 3 Stars
This is a great little MP3 player for someone just starting out with one. It's easy to figure out and use. I didn't notice the trouble with viewing the screen that others have mentioned, in fact the color screen is nice for something so small. It got this for my 10-year-old son, and he loves being able to show his favorite pictures as well as listen to his music.
I did have some trouble figuring out how to load the songs on it. Bear in mind I am not a techie-type. It's not really that hard, I just got a little confused by the software required for photo conversion, and the fact that there are several ways to load music to it. I got it quickly enough and loaded songs easily after that.
What I did have trouble with though was using a music service. There were coupons for both Napster and Rhapsody included, and this is supposed to be an authorized player to work with both services, but I couldn't transfer songs from either one to the player. I tried going through all the troubleshooting steps, and still couldn't get it to work, even with SanDisk tech support help. I was finally advised to return the player for a new one, but still have the same problems, so I don't think they will be resolved. I don't understand why they included music service coupons that aren't useable with this player.
This is probably not the player for someone looking for a lot of features, or someone used to a nicer player, but it's great for someone starting out or someone upgrading from a simpler, b&w display player. It's also probably not the player for someone who likes using a music service. I do think it's a great little player for the price.
Customer Review: Create playlists with ease and get this instead of an iPod Summary: 5 Stars
I got this MP3 player 4 years ago and I am still using it. Sound quality and battery life didn't change yet. I just replaced the original heaadphones since the wire was cut after 4 years and this is expected. I can use it very easily by hanging it on my neck in subway and bus trips daily and during my gym hours. I listened to tens of audio books with the device. Only drawback I found is that you can not use it for audible.com files (.aa files) since my mp3 player was not v2 version. Positives are changeable battery and Micro disk slot over an iPod.
Creating a playlist is very easy too:
1) Open the Sansa in 'My Computer'
2) Double click on the 'Playlist' folder
3) Drag the music you want from the computer into the 'Playlist' folder
4) Highlight all the files (or the files you want)
5) Right click
6) On the menu that pops up click "Create Playlist" - on my computer it's the very first option, in bold
7) Playlist will be created in the 'Playlist' folder
8) Name it whatever you want and enjoy!!
Now, my files were labeled numerically (ie: 01 Song, 02 Another Song) so they were in the order I wanted. If they're not in the order you want, follow these directions:
1) Right click on the playlist you've created
2) Select 'open' from the menu - on my computer, it's the very first option, in bold
3) A new window will open displaying the songs on the playlist
4) Highlight the song you want to move and click the arrows to move the song (you can also delete songs in this option).
Don't buy iPod to listen to mp3. Get 10 of these instead.
Customer Review: Prefer the e-series Sansa Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this as a gift for my mother for Christmas but had to return it because it did not function properly. It was unable to charge or display anything on the screen. I can't speak to its menus or software since I didn't get it to work but instead of replacing this c250 with the same model I switched to the e250 (2 gig).
I already own an e260 (4 gig) myself but I thought this c250 would be a better size for my mother to use. After we tried it I was not impressed with the way the buttons are laid out...it seems like it can only be operated with two hands. Unlike the e-series which has a scroll wheel, the c series has buttons to the far right of the screen. You hold this unit so that it is wider across. These buttons are difficult to access if you try to hold it in one hand and use your thumb. Right-handed they are too close to your hand and left-handed you have to reach across the display screen. I also felt like the hold switch was flimsy and the unit itself is not as solid. It just didn't feel as good in the hand as my e-series sansa.
I really like my e260 so since I had to return the c250 due to a bad unit I decided to just get the 2 gig e250 for my mom. She compared the two and agreed. I'd recommend paying the extra $10-$15 and going with the e-series sansa. Sansa has easy to use menus and with micro cards you can easily expand the capacity of either the c-series or the e-series. I've had my e260 for over a year without a problem so I would say Sansas are very reliable and the bad unit I got was not typical. I'd recommend Sansa but prefer the size and shape of the e-series.
Customer Review: Be Careful As Support is Limited Summary: 1 Stars
I received and returned this product on consecutive days. The first time I connected the device to the computer to charge the battery and transfer an audiobook file to the media it seemed to be fine. When I attempted to find the file I transferred for playback I ran into problems locating the file, and thinking I probably placed the file in the wrong location, I reconnected via the USB cable and got nothing but a screen with the SANSA logo, and the device never showed up on the desktop. Device was for all practical purposes DOA.
But that's not my biggest issue with the product. DOA events sometime happen. My issue is that I sought to receive some tech help from Sansa prior to returning the product. Perhaps there might me a button sequence or similar that would reset/restore the device -- I really wanted it to work. A phone call to tech support, though, was a real shocker. Since this device is already considered a "Legacy" product by Sansa they no longer provide telephone support, or live messaging support. The only help available is via a FAQ type board and email. I think this model is only about 2 years old -- is it SOP for companies to withdraw full support for a product that's only been the market for such a short time? And, is a good idea for Amazon to be marketing a product that's already been sent out to pasture by the manufacturer. Shame on both of them as far as I'm concerned. BTW, I returned the product and bought a Sansa Clip +2. It probably won't be considered a "Legacy" device for another 6 months or so.
