Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa c250 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: Great for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I have bought MP3 players for my son in the past, but this is the first one I have owned and operated. My initial thought was that with 2GB, this unit would have plenty of room to listen for hours, especially with a fixed charge duration available on the rechargable battery (replaceable). Well, it was not a month before I was back on-line ordering a Sandisk 4GB MicroSDHC card so I could keep my "whole" MP3 library on it. I believe the c250 V2 (the one shipped by Amazon) can handle up to a 8 GB (total of 10GB), but you might want to check again by calling the 1800 number for Sandisk. The older version, C250 (ver 1) can only handle up to 2GB as I recall. (look on the back of the unit for the "V2" in small print. I thought 4GB additional memory would be plenty and the chips are only about $16 on Amazon (bulkpack with full size SD adaptor). Then I picked up a second USB cable (to attach to a 2nd PC) and car/home charger for it (on Ebay as a set for about $8). I found the the extra memory is accessed rather seemlessly. I have been using MS-WMP Ver 11 for the sync (MP3s only so far- it supposedly plays other formats as well). I have not tried the voice recorder, but the photos are obviously small (see screen size) and fairly low resolution. These are fine for a quick glance, but less than ideal for anything more than cell phone type image sharing (IMHO). The FM radio (digital scan tuner) is as good as any portables I have used, but the reception was much better than most (i.e. picking up a weak signal inside a building and not cutting out every time you move). I found the overall sound quality was rather good. This is not a audiophile type device! But, with the equalizer (use presets or custom EQ settings) you can generate a very acceptable sound quality with volume level capability high enough to satisfy even my son. I would recommend this unit. I may find some problems with it once I have had it a while. But, after a couple of months usage, I would have to give it a 5 star assessment, especially for the price!
Customer Review: Great little mp3 player but need to buy new ear plugs Summary: 4 Stars
This SanDisk Sansa c250 is a great little MP3 player for a small price but the ear plugs that it comes with are way too big for my small ears. I am an adult but I have small petite ears and the ear plugs will not even begin to fit in my ears but they do fit in my husbands ears. I have a set of Sony ear plugs that I used with my walkman but they are over 10 yrs old (and about to go out) and I was hoping this mp3 player would come with a decent set to replace the Sony set. But that was not to happen, so now I need to go out and find a decent set of ear plugs to use with the device. This would be a great beginner mp3 player if you or your childs ears are not small. If you have small ears be prepared to pay a hefty price for a good set of ear plugs. I need a set that will stay in my ears as the mp3 player is used while I am on a riding mower for 3 to 4 days at a time and it is jostled all the time as my head/body is jostled continually with the rough terrain.
It is very easy to load songs onto the player either from your hard drive or downloaded songs, say like Rhapsody. It came with a coupon to download songs from the Rhapsody site directly to the mp3 player for free for a month which allowed me to load it with a ton of music to listen to while I mow. Not sure how long that offer is good for, but it came in handy.
All in all...the MP3 player is good except for the ear plugs and it allowed me to come out of the dark ages and retire my walkman that I would constantly have to come back to the house to but in new CD's continually. With this player I can just set it to shuffle all the songs, then set the "hold" button and mow like crazy for hours at a time.
Since I don't use it except to mow with, there is no problem recharging it on my computer. I did not need the special wall or car chargers. It is also so tiny it fits nicely in my shirt pocket.
Customer Review: Tough and capable, survived getting driven over Summary: 5 Stars
First and foremost, I'd like to point out that this device survived getting run over by my car. The screen cracked and is now partially unreadable, but everything still works just fine.
When I bought this I was looking for a cheap mp3 player that did nothing but play music. It does, quite well, and came with a whole bunch of other neat features. I had a few problems figuring out how to sync up and transfer my music (Prior to this I'd owned only Creative Nomad mp3 players, music transfer is a little different with them). Once you figure it out it's not bad. There's assorted video tutorials on the subject, which I ended up having to use.
Microphone and Radio tuner are pretty amazing considering how cheap and how little the device is. I use the microphone to record portions of class lectures and it works great (from within the first 3 or 4 rows, mind you). Radio tuner works as well as any other portable radio. I don't use the radio much, though, so I'm not sure how well it holds up under bridges and in large buildings etc.
The picture function, which seems to me something an mp3 player doesn't really need, works fine. I don't know what sorts of pictures you're supposed to look at on your mp3 player, but considering the screen resolution is 160 x 70 (or something like that, I don't remember exact size) pictures show up really clear. I guess you could fit a small two tiered flow chart, or maybe a basic time series graph. Or, if you're me, a picture of your girlfriend.
Bottom line, it's a great product, durable, and a steal. It's fallen down stairs, it's been run over by my car, and I've stepped on it a few times. It can stand up to a little punishment. The expansion slot is a great idea too, though I haven't had any need for it yet. Whenever this thing finally dies I will definitely be buying another.
Customer Review: i like it, weak headphone jack, READ THIS for FIX suggestions on this Summary: 2 Stars
I like this player a lot, too bad the headphone jack is cutting out on the left side. I put a little silicone with a toothpick around the space thats between the headphone jack and the player and it stopped cutting out for now. i dont know why they didnt build it flush to the player. it's obviously moving and cutting the signal
I got to tell you i installed rockbox on this and its awesome, it basically turns this little player into a mini cell phone [minus the calls..lol]with time and date and games, advanced EQ, sleep timer, you name it, not to mention that an 8gb micro sd works fine with rockbox installed [you can only get a 2gb with sansa firmware], it also leaves the volume where you left it last, a plus since the sansa firmware at the lowest level is deafening. there is also a more advanced lcd screen adjustment on rockbox that can get this screen a little better, i messed with the combination of the contrast, brightness etc. and got it to be much better, you can also choose the colors of the screen and the fonts so you can actually see what song you are choosing.
it sounds great after EQ, I really am enjoying it,props to rockbox.com. but i have to give it 2 stars because i am disappointed that it has a headphone issue, piece of junk, but a piece of junk that for now i am enjoying.
**for all of you with that headphone problem, if you install rock box there is an option to put the right channel or left channel in both ears [mono L or Mono R], it leaves it mono, so you will just be hearing the right ear phone in both ears but its better than nothing. and its just fine for lectures or audio books, and i suppose any music that is so old it wasn't even recorded in stereo...lol
Customer Review: Good Player for the money Summary: 4 Stars
I like this mp3 player a lot. I originally had a creative labs 30gb, It died and I did not want to spend $200 again. This player is pretty small and very light wieght, about the length of my middle finger. Adding music is a breeze. Controls are very easy to navigate, no need to read instructions, I had them figured out in about a minute.
The provided earbuds do not sound that great. Not bad, but I liked my creative labs earbuds better. I may replace these in the near future. The sandisk earbuds do stay in my ears better than most though. I usually hate earbuds, they hurt and always fall out, the sandisk ones tend to stay in place.
Accessories for this player are also difficult to find. Sandisk website lists several accessories but when you click on them nothing pops up. Basically I am looking for a clip, but have had no luck so far. The package includes an ad for accessories, but most are for the e200 series and do you no good since you have the c200 series.
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. Good MP3 player from a quality name brand. Extremely easy to use. Only downsides are a lack of readily availible accessories and the earbuds could be better.
I would still recommend this player over an ipod any day. But would probably say creative labs is better than the sansa though. The creative zen v plus is about the same size and only ten or so dollars more expensive, and it plays video, and accessories are everywhere. I wish I would have bought the creative zen v plus instead. But, I wanted an expansion slot and I thought the zen v was too expensive. It has come down in price since I bought the sansa, soo... it is more affordable now.
