Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa Express 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)

Customer Review: Very Useful
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first MP3 player and I remember I loved it. It's so small and easy to use, you just plug it into the computer and drag your music onto it. The battery lasts long. I've since upgraded to a Zune 8 but the Sansa still works and I still use it.

All of my stereos including the one in the car have a cable where I can hook up an mp3 player. I've used the sansa to quickly load it with songs I feel like listening to and plug it in, or take it with me in the car. I use it at the gym so my zune isn't at risk at getting messed up. I use it as a flash drive to transfer files from different computers. I use it at work for podcasts.

The only drawbacks are that the shuffle is kind of weak, it seems to only shuffle the songs once and you will always listen to them in that order. It doesn't randomize it every time. Also, I've had lock up issues which go away when I plug it into a usb port.

Still, you can do so much with it, even record audio and radio that it's good to have even if you have one of a zune/ipod.

Customer Review: Works great here
Summary: 4 Stars

Had one for about 6 weeks and am pleased. It does what was expected; play MP3/WMA/WAV and audio books with the FM radio and recorder being sauce for the goose.

Contrary to others I've found the menus adequate and easy to navigate even with my size 12 ham-hands. Of course our 10 year old son can fly through them. Not exactly feature-rich menus, but good enough at this price point. As for the OLED: of course it washes out a bit in the sun....but then so does every digital cameras LCD I've seen, but the OLED doesn't wash out as much.

The only cons so far are that MicroSD's are too easy to eject (not uncommon with many devices) and the neck rope was too stiff.

Many have complained about it dying or locking up, sometimes recovering with a hard reset and sometimes not. In my experience this is usually due to just removing it from a computers USB port without using Windows "Safely Remove Hardware" dialog. Not doing so can cause instabilities in MANY makers devices that show either immediately or later.

Customer Review: Easy to use, I just wish the battery life was better
Summary: 4 Stars

So far the player seems to work fairly well. It is extremely easy to Sync it with Windows Media Player. It transfers music very quickly. The user interface is not difficult and I found it to be quite intuitive to navigate through the different menus.
Now for the bad, Sometimes when I turn it on and try to play some music it says that there is no music in that folder. Usually all I have to do is turn it off and turn it back on but it is still annoying - and then the same or maybe a different folder may not be able to find the music files. It does not happen all the time but when it does it is frustrating. The only other complaint I have is that I'm not getting anyway near the 15 hours of battery life. I am only getting around 4 to 5 hours. I will call the customer service to see what this is all about. I would give it one more star if not for the 2 problems I mentioned.
Overall, this is a good player with good features and is very easy to use. This is my first music player and for the most part it is a good experience.

Customer Review: Awwesome little MP3 plawer
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed both a new USB drive and a MP3 player, so the SanDisk Sansa express was the obvious choice. From the start I was impressed with the crystal clear display and solid construction, but as I used it more I came to appreciate the long battery life and deafening output capacity as well. NO MP3 player is easier to connect to your computer and share media, and this little guy's ability to function flawlessly as a USB drive allows me to carry my Word and .pdf files along with me wherever I go too! The micro-SD expansion slot is a wonderful asset as well, for about 10 bucks (or less) you can upgrade this from a 2GB to a 4.
Last but definitely not least, is the awesome price I got when I purchased this thing on Amazon.com. I spent less than $30 on an MP3 player that rivals the IPod shuffle and Nano (minus the video playback ability)for a FRACTION of the price. SanDisk has built a a truly excellent product here, and if you're looking for a portable, versatile MP3 player, look no further than this.

Customer Review: Superb item as long as you know about the "hard reset"
Summary: 5 Stars

Very affordable and great quality music in a tiny package. I use the device to play music in my car, for jogging, and just anywhere else. I believe this is the best product out there for its particular category.

I recommend buying the 2 gb version because a 1 gb expansion card costs just about the same compared to the difference between the 1 gb and 2 gb versions of this product.

Only a few notes:
The shuffle option does not seem to spread out music from their initial alphabetical-order well.

A few minor problems of not turning on or freezing, but this occurs after unplugging the device from a computer or initially turning it on. The problems do not occur during playback. A "hard reset" fixes everything. When I bought this product, I noticed bad reviews, but I also noticed reviews that explained how to circumvent problems noted in the bad reviews. A "hard reset" was the answer in their reviews and the answer from my own experience as well.
