Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa Express 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: Great MP3 Player for the price Summary: 4 Stars
You probably won't find a better MP3 player for the price. While it has its flaws and occasionally buggy performance, the combination of size and features more than compensates for its shortcomings imo.
Pros:
1. Small size
2. Direct USB connection - no need to carry a USC cable around with you (although it comes with a small USB extension cable for use if you need it)
3. Doubles as a USB drive - I have had no problems storing all kinds of files on it
4. Syncs well with Windows Media Player or simply by drag and drop
5. FM player and recorder
6. Charges fairly quickly from computer
7. Decent battery life
8. Good sound quality
9. Micro SD expandable memory slot
Cons:
1. Prone to occasional glitches such as screen freezes (I found that connecting it to a live USB port will fix these problems)
2. Sound quality of FM recording is average at best
3. FM radio appears to mainly use headphones as antenna - may need to find the right pair of headphones for best FM signals
4. User interface could be slightly better
The headphones that come with the device provide decent sound and FM radio signal but are not comfortable (to me). I purchased another pair immediately. I would update the device's software as soon as you get it to improve reliability. Use the device lock and remember to turn it off when you're done using it to avoid the battery from running out - it is easy to turn on accidentally.
Customer Review: TOO MANY FATAL FLAWS - cannot plays songs by folder... Summary: 2 Stars
First off, my needs may be different than many peoples.
the sansa is tiny and nice and sounds pretty good, though you may want better headphones than the ones that come with it for free.
TROUBLES:
#1: sansa doesn't recognize FOLDERS at all when you're navigating through songs. it just jumbles all the files together. if you store your music by albums or any catagory it's impossible to listen to your music with ANY predictability. if you have hundreds of songs on it, it's amazingly slow to move through the songs in search of anything and the order seems to be almost random! i record my own things and then use a mini-mp3 player to listen back while working on things. this was impossible with the sansa. usually you can browse your files by name, artist, etc... which you can do, but it doesn't have by FOLDER. so once your files are on it... good luck figuring out where they'll be. and because file naming can be so random a few songs by one band will come up then something else them more of the previous band later... often much later. without any method to navigate, this thing is only for people who just want some cheap thing to play back whatever. if that's you... go for it.
#2: i bought it for the voice recorder. IT SAVES VOICE RECORDINGS AS .WAV FILES!!! which are 10 times the size of mp3 or wma. i have to batch convert them on my computer - most people don't have a program that does this. not sure what they were thinking.
Customer Review: Best mp3 player hands down Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the 1GB version 3 years ago at Be5t8uy for $50. My little brother, who was a (poor) college student at the time, liked it so much that I purchased the 2gb version from Amazon for him. ...A while later, after noticing me use this as a flash_drive/microSD_reader my brother-in-law returned his !pod Touch and got this instead... That should say volumes.
---PRO---
As an mp3 player this thing rocks. It has flawless sound quality, and more playback features/options (sleep mode, equalizer, etc..) than Apple or Sony.
As a USB flash drive and a microSD card reader it works very well, though I have not tested it with the newer microSDHC memory cards.
Good battery life, small size, FM radio and voice recording, cool 1-way-mirror LED screen.
---con---
There is no built-in speaker, and the display is somewhat harder to read in full sunlight than others due to it's smaller size and mirror finish.
--durability--
My little brother ran-over his while snow-boarding and the volume button broke off, the player continued to work though.
I kept mine on a key-chain with my Gerber Knife, which eventually scratched the pristine mirror-finish of the display (probably shouldn't have been playing with my knife while it was in my pocket anyway).
..I am half-tempted to purchase another b/c not very many places sell these anymore...
Customer Review: Better than I had expected... Summary: 5 Stars
I am amazed by how technology continues to fit more features in such a small piece of equipment. I recently joined a gym and wanted to listen to music while I exercised. I have another mp3 player, which I love, but it is too bulky and cumbersome. Hence my search for a smaller mp3 player began. By luck, I stumbled upon an excellent deal for my sansa express. A local electronics store slashed the price from $79.00 down to $28.00! I bought it immediately. The size is perfect, it is extremely light weighted. The lanyard is a great option because you can wear this player around your neck and keep it out of the way and not interfere with what you are doing. You don't even realize you're wearing the express around your neck because it is so compact and lightweight. This mp3 player is so easy to use and the sound quality I felt is pretty darn good. I am very impressed with the display. For such a small piece of equipment, the display is generous in size and easy to read and it provides the information you want to know about the media your are listening to. I haven't messed around with the radio yet. Yes, it has a radio too! Amazing how so many options can be placed in one little player. If anyone out there is looking for a great mp3 player that wont interfere with your exercise routine, this is it! Don't hesitate to buy it, it is worth the money. I would have paid $79.00 for it if I hadn't stumbled across such a great deal.
Customer Review: Sounds Great, Micro SD is a Headache Summary: 3 Stars
I really want to love the Sansa Express. It sounds great, is ultra-portable, has an excellent EQ feature (which is essential to me when listening to anything but CD or DVD audio), and the price is right.
I use it mostly for working out, so I don't need a full-color screen, and the navigation is bare bones but efficient. The Griffin clear case is a must as well, not just for protecting the Express, but for keeping the Micro SD card from popping out every time you touch it!
And that's where this player hits its limit. The Micro SD card slot supports 2GB without a problem, but when I tried an 8GB, it froze, and it only recognized the card as having 4GB, even though I formatted it within the player. My guess is this is a firmware issue that has not been resolved yet.
I could be the only one with this problem, but I eventually just took the 8GB card out completely, and started using a 2GB. Had I known that, I never would have purchased an 8GB Micro SD card. I haven't tried a 4GB or 6GB card yet.
Other that that huge issue, everything else works great. The FM radio sounds good with good signal pickup, and the recorder is adequate for putting thoughts down or recording the radio.
Finally, this works seamlessly with Napster, and comes with a free 30-day trial. It's great for me because I'm constantly switching my music out in batches.
