Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa Express 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)Customer Review: Don't waste your money... Summary: 2 Stars
Bought one for 13 y/o daughter and one for self. Easy to use. Has 2g expansion slot. plugs straight into port on laptop and can load mp3s or be charged easily. Perfect if you only want something to listen to music with and don't care about needing a big screen for videos and pics.Comes with lanyard for wearing around your neck so you don't have to clip it on or worry about dropping it. As expected, I see this dangling from my teen's neck on a regular basis; she loves it. Also comes with adapter cord for those who have desktop computers.Decent earbuds.Pleased with Sansa; also have a sansa Fuze(awesome!) and sansa shaker for small child. Would have bought our other two children the sansa express if they didn't already have other brand players.
******After owning these for a short while we discovered how glitched they were. Thank goodness we had only spent about 24 dollars per player. They are outdated, so there is no warranty or support to be had. Save your money and buy a Sansa Fuze. We've had 2 Fuzes for 2 years without any problems and 1 Fuze for a year without problem. My oldest daughter has had her Fuze for a month and the only problem she had is that she fell and landed her knee on her mp3 player and caused internal damage to the video screen. But it still plays. Toys r us warranty is going to fully replace it.( I suggest buying them there because you can get a 15 month warranty and they replace products even if broken due to own fault!)We all love our Fuzes. Quality video and audio. 4g fuze has expansion slot- can hold 12g total.
Customer Review: I hate this MP3 player w a passion Summary: 1 Stars
This MP3 player is absolutely the worst laid out design of all the MP3 players I've had. I'm usually pretty partial to Sony, but they hadn't picked up on the drop and drag thing when I bought this (my only major problem w their players; other than that, they're great). This player's draw was that it's drop and drag: its only good point.
It takes _forever_ to turn on and turns itself off after like 5 seconds of being paused and it doesn't saved its turn off point so you have to shuffle back through to find where you were. The file layout is cumbersome and takes entirely too much effort to find what you're looking for. I've taken to keeping maybe 20 songs on the thing so I can find what I'm looking for when I want it (even though it can hold way more, obviously).
I've had it for over a year and the buttons went funny after maybe 5 months (?). I tried to return it after 2 months because it was an awful prodcut and Sansa said they don't accept returns unless there's something wrong with it (bad design doesn't count apparently). After the keys quit being reliably responsive, they still wouldn't take it. I was sick of fooling with them at that point; so needless to say I will think twice about ever buying Sansa again.
This isn't one of those electronics where there's one or two "oh it would be nice if this had this or that." No this thing is beyond annoying. The simple fact that I bought it over a year ago and I'm still hating it (enough to write a review) should say all that needs to be said.
Customer Review: Very sloppy software Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this mainly on the positive reviews on amazon and the price. But am regretting the purchase now.
First, the battery doesn't seem all that robust. Within the span of a 1 hour podcast, the battery meter can drop 1/4 of the battery indicator. Leaving it plugged into the USB port doesn't appear to recharge it quickly enough.
Second, the software is irritatingly dumb. Because seeking to a spot is cumbersome with the interface, you will likely split a 4 hour podcast or radio show into 10 or 20 minute parts so that if you press "next" by mistake, you don't have to keep fast forwarding for half an hour to get back to the same spot.
Well, guess what. The player will sort the files in what looks like a random manner. Even if they all have alphabetically sortable filenames("part 01.mp3", "part 02.mp3", etc). Even if they have their track numbers set correctly in the ID3 tags. I'd imagine that the same would happen with a ripped CD, though I don't use the player to listen to music.
Another irritation is that the auto shutdown feature doesn't reset itself, like on the iPod. So if you want it to shut off automatically as you go to sleep, then you turn it on again in the morning, the timer will remain until you realize why the music stopped and turn sleep off.

It is amazing how braindead these devices and the companies making them seem after you've been using an iPod for a few years. Even more amazing that Apple got it so right so long ago.
Customer Review: Sandisk Sansas Express Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this mp3 player for myself after doing a little internet research. It has not lived up to expectations. Not a lot of fancy bells and whistles but doesn't do what it is supposed to do. It has 2 GB capacity which is plenty for my use but can also be expanded with a 2 GB micro SD card. It has an FM tuner for when I get tired of the stuff I've listened to many times. It's small, about the size of a pack of gum and comes with a lanyard so you can hang it off your neck if you're wearing a pocketless shirt. No separate charger is necessary; you just plug it into a USB port to recharge which is very convenient. It supposedly will run for 15 hrs. but I haven't tested that out, but it does charge up very quickly. I wasn't thrilled with the earbuds, but then my ears are hard to fit well. Not a problem with the sound quality. The instructions for use are very easy to follow. Overall I think it was a great deal for about $55 and I'm very pleased with it.SanDisk Sansa Express 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) New info 2/9/07 Here it is only a couple of weeks later and the player doesn't work at all. Searching user forums, I found that this is not an isolated case. I have asked for a replacement and hope it will be OK, but in the meantime, I would not recommend buying this item. In altering my formerly favorable review, I could not find a way to change the number of stars I gave it originally, so I hope my reveiw is being read in it's entirety.
Customer Review: Should have heeded reviews Summary: 1 Stars
The concept and application of the direct USB conncection (cordless) seemed like a dream (with 4 kids and 3 or 4 devices per kid, USB cords and chargers are taking over our lives!), as did the elongated rectangular shape (I could tuck it anywhere for transportation) and sleek design; indeed, these factors WERE a dream, for a week. Spontaneously, the device failed to power up, even though fully charged, and failed, as well, to be recognized by my computer. Before purchase, I read at least one review whose writer had the precise problem, but I did not pay much attention; now I wish I would have taken it to heart. The disappointment didn't stop there: the most frustrating part of the deal was SanDisk customer/technical support. After spending literally hours on the phone with non-English speaking tech representatives who spilled out worthless memorized solutions, applying all their suggested updates and other fixes with no success, and losing every bit of data on the device, their final offer was this: try to get a reimbursement from Amazon. SanDisk, even after admitting its product was faulty, will reimburse and/or replace the product ONLY after the retailer (in this case, Amazon) refuses to replace. Even though I anticipate no trouble acquiring an Amazon solution, I will not be purchasing another SanDisk product--WOULD YOU?!??! Resist the "too good to be true" qualities of this Sansa Express; go for one of the tried and true brands, like Apple--if that one fails, at least you'll have customer service to back you.
