Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa Clip 4 GB MP3 Player (Silver)Customer Review: Constant Companion Summary: 5 Stars
To add to the many other glowing reviews: I had an ipod nano and thought life couldn't get better--except for iTunes. Then the battery died. I did a lot of research for my replacement and ended up liking this way more than the nano. Great sound, tiny size, very light, the clip works great and can clip to your t-shirt. I found most headphone cords way too long and tangly with this tiny thing, so I have taken to using a twist tie to keep the excess cordage out of the way. Sansa updates the firmware regularly and you never know what new features your clip may have! For example, it now plays .ogg files. The voice recorder works well. I've only used it to make notes to myself, but it's handy for that, and may well be good for lectures. You can use almost any media player to load it up--except iTunes--or you can just drag and drop files onto it. You can use it as a portable drive. It's great for books from Audible--probably the best player on the market for that. My only complaints, and they won't bother most people--are that it plays podcasts from newest to oldest, and I want them the other way; and it won't play the .aac format that itunes turned all my files into (more an Apple issue than a Sansa issue). It fits in my coin purse with my RAZR--and I can use the RAZR charger to charge this. Excellent value and performance.
Customer Review: Product Failed in 3 Weeks Summary: 1 Stars
The product failed in 3 weeks. I got a replacement product and it failed in 2 weeks. The quality control is terrible, in my view. Not sure if it is a software or hardware problem. There are not many moving parts, which suggests a software problem.
If I had to do it over again, I might also buy the protective case. I use them for jogging outdoors and running on a treadmill. Maybe a bit of sweat gets in and shorts things out.
I use the Sansa clip products out of necessity to download and listen to books from librivox.org (not compatible with Apple). Maybe there is something about the stuff that is getting loaded and removed (lots of bits) or about how long the product is hooked up to various computers.
At any rate, Sansa needs to go back and do some serious road testing of the hardware and software, in my view. Had similar problems with 1-2 gig Sansa Clips. Have used the Sansa Clip products in various forms for 2 years or so. Before that used the ipod products. I do give Sansa credit for generally honoring the warranty - I have gotten 2 replacement products for free. Still waiting on my 3d replacement. I will be sending in a fourth shortly. Would go elsewhere if there was some other product that I thought I could trust that would do what I want done.
Customer Review: Great player, if it lasts long enough Summary: 4 Stars
We're a Sansa Clip family. We LOVE them. They've got terrific sound (ditch the included headphones and upgrade to ones that are comfortable - we like Skullcandy INK'D Earbuds (Black)). The Sansa Clip has tons of features (equalizer, FM radio, voice recorder...), is super-user friendly and can run easily on Windows Media Player so doesn't require special software. The battery life is even great and can charge using a USB port on the PC as it syncs.
Now, having said all that, it's a good thing they are inexpensive. We've had warranty claims for 4 out of 7 of the Sansa Clips we've owned. Within a year of use, they have either suddenly stopped charging or suddenly stopped being able to sync with the PC (no changes had been made to either PC or mp3 player). Multiple vague and completely unhelpful "solutions" are given on Sansa's website. Exhaustive (and exhausting) troubleshooting emails with SanDisk's tech support prove futile, at which point they decide that you should ship the unit to them for inspection, insured, at your cost.
Bottom line - buy the Sansa Clip, but save yourself some hassles and buy SquareTrade's extended warranty.
Customer Review: It rates songs! Summary: 5 Stars
I'll just make two points that I don't see in these reviews. 1. Though I like the looks of the silver flush finish, it sure looks to be a smudge and scratch magnet! Definitely looks sleek but I'm guessing it'll look pretty rough after much use relative to one of the color ones with more of a matte finish. I will confirm or deny this hunch after a few months of using it.
2. It can rate songs!!! I don't recall seeing that feature listed anywhere so I feel I need to say it for the apparent minority of us mp3 listeners who like to rate their songs on the go.
I will have to get back to you on whether it SYNCS those song ratings back to your pc library reliably though. I'm saying this because I have a 32gb Creative Zen that I love as my main player. Only it won't reliably sync back song ratings to my pc library. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't and syncing in general with it is way too glitchy. I've wasted many hours of my life researching and testing WHY I can't get it to work right and have good reason to believe its the Zen, not Windows Media Player that's the problem. I'm hoping this one does better and if so is going to cause my Zen to be put on ebay and I'll get a higher-capacity Sandisk unit as my main player!
Customer Review: Great Player Problem with Podcasts Summary: 5 Stars
I love the way this player is setup. If you want to listen to music and podcasts they are seperated into seperate folders so you don't need to worry about running across your podcasts when you are listening to music. The only bad thing is with the music ordering. When it comes to podcasts my podcasts are already ordered alphabetically, but when I import them in they are placed by date. So I have to modify the names of the podcasts so it changes the date then it lays out correctly in the podcast folder on the player. The only other way to do podcasts would be to put them into a playlist and import it into the music folder, but then you run into the problem of the podcasts popping up when you are listening to music.
I also have a convertable wall/car usb plug adapter 3-In-1 USB, Car, Wall Charger For Samsung and this player will charge using it. You can even use the player while it is charging on the adapter. Although you cannot use the player while it is connected to your computer for charging.
This player is still much better than a shuffle or nano. You also can use this on any computer since it is using the solid state storage driver. If you are looking for a little player with a screen this is fantastic.
