Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa Clip 4 GB MP3 Player (Silver)Customer Review: Good for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
I never got into the whole ipods. Mostly because all my CD players (including the one in my car) could all play MP3s. But I knew the time had come to stop trying to run and having a CD fanny pack on my side. My main goal was to get something small and that had a clip. I guess you see why I found this one. I knew I was never going to watch movies on it. I probably could have gotten the 2gb and been just fine, but I thought I would get the 4gb because it looked cooler and hopefully it would last me longer (no reason to upgrade).
Over all I'm pretty pleased with it. The sound isn't that great. You aren't going to get any great bass out of this little of player. (but it could be configured some) There are plenty of options to go through and a little learning curve to figure out how to go forward and back through the menus. The Radio is good enough for this size of player. I haven't tried the voice recorder.
You loose anything on the screen in any sun light. I usually have to get everything set up in the garage and then leave it. The only way to charge it is hook it up to a USB port. This isn't too bad, but it takes a lot longer to charge. Also, I ended up loosing the clip on the back like 3 days after I got it (I was doing some yard work) I didn't even notice I had lost it until a week later. I e-mailed SanDisk and told them what happen. They said they would ship me another one for free (which I thought was nice) its just taking probably 6 weeks to get to me!
Customer Review: Mine Was Unusable Due To Shoddy Materials Summary: 1 Stars
This is a review of the "SanDisk Sansa Clip 4 Gigabyte MP3 Player" which I just bought from Amazon last week.
OK, so the product arrived well wrapped and protected. The software disk worked fine. The player accepted my file upload just fine, I got almost 50 albums on it. So why do I rate it only 1 star????
What else can you rate something which pretty much can not be used! That is only a slight overstatement. It actually can be used if you listen to it while the player itself and the headset cord are absolutely immobile.... but then only after you have played with the placement of the headset jack in the jack recepticle until it is just right.
The jack recepticle on my Sansa Clip will not maintain contact with any headset jack....I tried three headsets - two of them high end and the third were the earbuds that came with the player.....and was unable to use the player while bike riding due to that problem.
The thing is pretty much useless and I am going to return it. Hope I can get a refund, I am not interested in owning garbage. The materials used in the jack recepticle appear to be crap, I have a Sony Walkman with much better headset jack recepticle after 20 years that this thing has new. The player itself is tiny, and for the $50 I paid it would be reasonable to expect the folks at SanDisk to not try to save 15 or 20 cents per unit on such a critical piece of the functionality of what they are selling.
Customer Review: Not bad as a competitor to the shuffle Summary: 3 Stars
This is the first non-iPod mp3 player that I've purchased in about three years, and I was really impressed with the functionality description and price. If you compare it to the upcoming (same price) 2GB iPod shuffle you get double the capacity, a display, equalizer, voice recorder and an fm radio.
I've had is for about a day, and it seems to work great. Loading tunes was a breeze, just drag and drop files, no software to install. It has a standard USB interface, so I can use cables that I already have.
All this, but I only gave it 3 stars? OK, so here are the disappointments.
First (and worst), the silver (and highly reflective) front panel looks cool, but it's freakin' impossible to read the display outdoors. I turned the brightness up to max and still could barely read it. It also tends to smudge very easily.
Second, it's bigger than I expected. It's almost double the size of a shuffle. Still pretty tiny, I'll admit.
Third, coming from the minimalist iPod experience, this thing has at least
two unneeded switches. In order to wake the unit up, you have to push the power slider switch on the side. Why not just push any button, like an iPod? There's also a "home" button to get you to the main menu, which I'm sure could have been achieved by re-using one of the wheel functions.
In summary - a cool little player, great value for money. It would be four stars, but for the display issue.
Customer Review: Great buy for the price BUT Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the Sansa Clip in March April 2008. I needed a MP3 player that was rugged and could take some beating from working out.
The Sansa audio quality is good and the display is easy to see while you run (however if it is sunny it is difficult to see the display).
Downloading songs is easy as long as you have a PC. Unfortunately the Sansa does not work with Itunes and the IMAC....it also does not work if your PC is an old one with a slow USB port.
I bought mine at Best Buy because Amazon low price was the one of a refurbished Sansa. I founded out when I bought one from Amazon and had to sent it back because it was defective.
If you buy one in an electronics' store, I'd suggest you purchase the extended 2 years warranty. These thing break easy.
The Sansa battery last a very long time. The provided headphones are not good for sport activities, so consider an additional $5 for a cheapo pairs.
I already replaced my Sansa once because the holding clip broke within few months and the battery wasn't charging anymore. This one I have seem to have a defective radio the FM does not pass 90. It is OK with me because I do not listen to the radio, but it is annoying if another member of the family wants to use that feature.
In the overall this is a good buy because under $70 (included the extended warranty) it won't drain your wallet and you'll have few more features and it is more rugged than a Ipod Shuffle.
Customer Review: Super little player Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted a small mp3 player to complement my hulking old Creative player. This little wonder fills the role perfectly. It's great for running, or when you're on the go and need the space in your pockets for other things.
Pros:
1. Small physical size
2. Intuitive interface
3. No need for special software (supports MTP and MSC protocols)
4. Tactile buttons (you don't have to look at it to use it like you do with the scroll-wheel and touchscreen interfaces of the products of some other popular mp3 maker whom shall go unnamed).
5. Sound is excellent, better than any other mp3 player I've tried.
6. Uses a standard mini-usb cable instead of a proprietary cable type.
Cons:
1. The provided USB cord is only like 4 inches long, so you'll want front USB ports on your CPU (I don't, I have to use an adapter cable or climb behind my computer).
2. MTP mode will not work with my older CPU which only has USB 1.0.
3. Unless you use MTP mode, your mp3 tags have to be in ID3v2.3 UTF-16 format or your tags may show up as "unknown" on the player. (use a free utility called mp3tag v.241 to convert them easily.)
4. Slightly hard to read in daylight, but like I said, there's really no need to look at it, you can easily navigate the menu with it in your pocket.
The pro's on this heavily outweigh the cons, all of which are easily worked around. I highly recommend it!
