Customer Review: The epitome of what an MP3 player should be

I bought this (4gb clip+) on a whim during the 25 days of MP3 deals this year...
I'll just start off by saying that I do not regret this purchase in any way, and will not, even if bought at twice the list price. The clip+ is not only portable (it's small, and when I say small, I mean small!), but contains a long lasting battery life, and many other features to boot. Epic.
Now I see a lot of people complaining about the battery life, and perhaps it goes different with the sent product, but I believe it may mean that they did not charge the battery to the brim.
I'm a person of internet interests, I'd love to search the internet for hours on end looking for what could benefit my product, and I can say one thing: why hasn't any of the top reviews mentioned rockbox (it may be because of a special reason, and if so, I'm sorry to list it)?
I was faced with a problem a few days ago. When charging the clip+ with a wall outlet or anything else besides a computer, the clip+ would never charge to full battery. Normally, you would face the problem, see a lot of reviewers complain about it, and see them say there is no solution and that they would probably take a star off or something because of the problem. Well, being the google user I am, I decided to go make a search on what to do to banish this problem, and by accident I stumbled on a gold mine: Rockbox.

At a glance, it is an alternative open source firmware. However, from a glance at the features of this "open source firmware", it is something that far surpasses the included firmware of the clip+. It allows playback of a wide array of music formats including TTA (Russian lossless), APE (Monkey's Audio :D), MP3 (better LAME it), FLAC, OGG, etc. (surely including all popular formats). It also enables gapless playback, database sorting, benchmarking apps, RAM information, and all the good stuff you need (lol...)!
After installing rockbox on my clip+ (it keeps the current firmware somewhere in the memory though), its value increased significantly to me (to the point where I MUST carry it in a shirt pocket or I'll be forever lost in the world). My previous problem with it charging was fixed by having the player remain turned on with rockbox, and it charged to 100% all the time, giving me 10+ hours of 50% volume easily.
If you want rockbox, simply search rockbox on google (links restricted by Amazon I believe).
Now, don't critique me saying that I emphasize too much on rockbox and that it doesn't relate with the clip+. Well, it does, because I believe you should take full advantage of the hardware you get, and if the software is what is limiting it, then the problem is easily solved. Get rockbox. Simple as that.
Now onto the physical properties of this mp3: It's pretty slick. Now, it's not a diamond masterpiece, but it's not a toy either. There's not much to say about the design though, it's more fit for what it is meant to do.
I'm well acquainted with the buttons on the clip+ and I can say that it is easy to get used to where they are, but it is hard to press down on some of them. The volume buttons are located on the side and take a pretty hard press to make them respond. The front buttons are easy to use and can easily be pressed, however I believe they could be a little bigger (I use my thumbs to press them, they have space to expand, so why not?) and they probably need to be seperated (a diagonal press will result in neither buttons giving response, and since a normal thumb size will be bigger than the buttons, diagonal presses are somewhat common). The name is appropriate for the clip+, it clips onto your shirt and you'll notice it no more (except for its phenomenal abilities for its unnoticeable size)!
They placed the power button well and a highlight of this mp3 player is that it comes from sandisk - which means expandability of storage space is not a problem. Equip it with a 32 GB microsd and you can take all your favorite music wherever you go (unless even 36 gigs isn't enough for you)!
So in summary, after installing rockbox, there really is much less to complain about the clip+. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I'm not over enthusiastic over the clip+, because being over enthusiastic is simply not enough!
Pros (after installation of rockbox):
-Ability to play various music files including MP3, OGG Vorbis, FLAC, WAV, ALAC, WMA, TTA, APE
-With rockbox, features like gapless playback, skin customization, bass and treble modifier, equalizer, crossfader, playback resume, CUE compatibility, volume by db, better battery and device statistics, and many more features needed are available
-Amazing battery life for its size (tell me otherwise after you have tried rockbox)
-Expandable memory, up to a total of 40 GB! (Applause, because it IS small)
-Portable, small, clip. (About the size of my two thumbs side-by-side)
-Easy to use
-Lightweight (barely feel it on your hand)
-Radio
-Sound quality is pretty good, no background noise
-Price is not a problem, it is the best bang for the buck.
Cons:
-Firmware makes it a little... Well I would understand if they had to pay royalty for the formats, but still...
-Not really a con, but buttons could be a bit bigger
-volume buttons could need an adjustment to take less pressure to press, but may be just my opinion (reviews are about opinions anyway, even when unbiased)
-Also not really anything to complain about, but microsd slot and usb ports could have a cover.
-Buttons could be a little wider
-Buttons could be split so as to not make diagonal pressing possible
-Not really a con either due to the fact that almost all mp3 players have included bad earbuds, it's best to supply your own, but if you have none, use the ones included
-No wall charger, obviously the firmware doesn't really support anything other than a computer either. Get rockbox to fix that.
-Front surface is a fingerprint magnet
If you're looking for an MP3 player that's lightweight, small, has a decent battery, and has tons of features, get the clip+. You won't regret it.
I'm aware there are better "Touch Screen" mp3 players, but to me (who only wants to listen to music), this is the best bang for the buck. I don't need anything more.
