Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk SDSDH-1024-901 1 GB Ultra II Secure Digital Memory Card (Retail Package)

Customer Review: Left me in Yellowstone with a non-functional camera -- bring a backup card!
Summary: 1 Stars

To make a very long story short, this SD card failed on me in my Canon SD 400 just before entering Yellowstone NP (I've never been before) on a perfect morning in late July '05. I had to purchase a disposable camera in the park and then buy a replacement Lexar SD card at a Walmart. The Lexar works perfectly, several hundred pictures later.

To make another long story short, their online tech support is poor as well. They sidestep issues and give canned responses. While trying to convince them that the card is dead and that I need an RMA, I received the same canned e-mail answer twice. They kept recommending a 3rd party product to recover the data, but my laptop doesn't see the SD card (it's dead!!!). Sandisk will not recover the pictures for you. They offered two other 3rd parties that could do recovery -- one is $125 for a "chance" or $395 for a guarantee. Forget it!!

After two cases and several e-mails, I finally have been "approved" for an RMA.

I have learned my lesson. I will never leave home without my Lexar card again.

Customer Review: These work fine in my camera
Summary: 5 Stars

These faster types of HD cards are what I'm buying now. The newer generation of digital cameras and other devices can make use of their higher read/write speeds.

You must, however, ascertain that your device is capable of using these "Ultra" speed SD cards. If it can't, you have wasted your money. Read the manual carefully to see if it can.

I am using this in two panasonic cameras I bought recently: one is a 5MP point-and-shoot and the other is the DMC FZ50 which, at 10MP file size and the capability of VGA wide screen video, makes good use of the card.

I've had a number of SanDisk cards without any problems. Cards today are nearly a commodity item, so shop for the best price. A 4GB card is not too big or even very expensive anymore. These 1GB cards are so cheap as to be something you could just give to your friends and family or business associates with photos or text copied on them. Life is becoming more like being on Star Trek nowadays. "Take a tri-corder reading, Mr. Spock and beam it back to the Enterprise."

Customer Review: Great card, great price
Summary: 5 Stars

No need to format it, you just pop it into your camera and it's ready to go. Well, for the Canon SD400, that is. I've talked to some of my computer geek friends about the 1G vs. 2 512mb business and they've told me that it's a ridiculous argument, it's really your preference but 1G is probably preferable. You have more space in one sitting if you will, and can take plenty of pics without having to worry about fumbling with another tiny card in the middle of a photo op. They also told me that the Ultra II was ideal for my camera.

I even had some problems with UPS re-routing my package (since it had to be signed for and I wasn't home to do that), they seemed to be holding it hostage on the other side of the city and after 4 consecutive days of being promised it was in the system and would arrive to me, I had no luck (or patience). I still don't know where it is! Amazon was quick to resolve the problem and send me another card directly to my business address. 5 stars for the card and amazon, -5 for UPS's (lack of) service.

Customer Review: Great card, but...
Summary: 4 Stars

Okay, this card is priced a little above the normal Secure Digital card by Sandisk. The Ultra II line is more high end, providing faster speeds and urability; as well as better protection against memory loss or corruption. Now, I use this card in an Exilim Z750 Digital Camera, and I've got to tell you, I really so no difference in speed when it comes to transfers or picture saving. I didn't really do a side-by-side comparison, but I used a 128MB Sandisk SD card for a few days, and then switched to the 1GB Ultra II, and I really didn't feel that it went by any faster. Now, I could be wrong in the sense that the Ultra II isn't marginally faster, but none this less, this is a great, durable, and reliable card that is worth the purchase. Most people thing 512MB is the sweet spot when it comes to memory, but I just like the sound of 1GB better.

BOTTOM LINE: I give you the green light to get this great card, but if you are a casual user of SD cards, you won't notice the differences in speed and functionality over a standard SD card.

Customer Review: Reliable memory, excellent speed
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this card nearly two years ago, and have never been disappointed with it. The one issue I had was after wiping it clean, there was about 160MB of storage space that appeared on the card to be full. I defragmented the card (available in properties), and saw all kinds of files being moved on the card. They were from another camera in which I'd tested the card to show it's speed, and oddly enough they didn't disappear when I deleted them (I wish I remembered the make and model of that camera). I formatted the card, and all the space came back. (Be certain that you have everything you need off your card before you format it!)

It's been to eastern Europe and back, and it has never missed a beat. Even when it had a portion that was inaccessible, the remainder of the memory worked no problem. I'm very happy with this card, which I originally purchased for my Panasonic DMC-FZ7 digital camera. I have not been disappointed!
