Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk SDSDH-1024-901 1 GB Ultra II Secure Digital Memory Card (Retail Package)Customer Review: 1GB SD, use the extra space anywhere Summary: 5 Stars
Most modern computers, both laptops and towers, come with a drive that supports multiple types of digital media cards (including Seure Digital). This makes the intergrating process of Secure Digital cards and your computing needs a breeze.
This particular 1gig card has taken a vital role in my computing needs. I use it to store serveral types of things.
1.) Drivers - this card replaced all the cds i used to have to carry around with all of my computer's drivers.
2.) Incremental Backups - because its re-writable its easy to make incremental backups of my homework, forms, records, etc. No more "one time use cds" for this task. I should also note that these cards have a built in "write protection" feature on the side, which prevents accidental modtification of its contents when switched on.
3.) Depending on how your digital camera treats the storage card, you should be able to use the remaining space for recording pictures taken or short video clips. If you're purchasing this card specifically for a digital camera, I can't even imagine how many pictures using 4MP camera would fit in it.
The only shortcoming I have experienced with this card is its slow transfer rate for small files stored in huge quantities. For example, I had a folder holding serveral hundred icons, each about 50kb....thats a lot of files using up very little space each. For these type of files, its best to compress them into an archieve (zip or rar to name a couple of formats) on the PC before sending to the SD card.
Despite this, the card is a 5 star purchase.
Customer Review: But beware of FAKES Summary: 5 Stars
I have over a dozen SanDisk CF/SD cards of varying sizes. They are the most reliable SD cards I have used.
Recently I bought 2 1GB SanDisk cards from "1OnlyNewStuff" in the Amazon marketplace. When I got them I tried them out immediately and they read/wrote OK.
However, when putting one back in the camera something just did not look quite right about it. Comparing my two new "SanDisk" cards to any of my old ones showed that the new cards had no serial numbers, had slightly different physical profiles, and sort of blotchy printing.
Checking on the internet I found that SanDisk counterfeits have long been known on E-Bay. Now they have been brought to Amazon. There is a page at [...] which shows some of the characteristics of the fake cards.
I checked with SanDisk, provided them with photos of the two new disks and SanDisk confirms them as fakes.
The SanDisk pictured on this Amazon Page is real (note the notch on the bottom of the media - lacking on most fakes). Likely media ordered directly from Amazon is going to be OK.
However if you are tempted, as was I, by the lower price from some Amazon merchants when you get the cards inspect them to see if they are real or counterfeit.
SanDisk very promptly will help you with this. For example, if the media has a serial number SanDisk can confirm if it is valid. If it has NO SERIAL NUMBER, then don't bother SanDisk - because ALL actual SanDisks have serial numbers (and a lifetime guarantee)
Customer Review: 2 weeks to deliver??? Amazon is no longer a good place to shop. Summary: 1 Stars
I started to shop in Amazon ever since it started its business. It was a very efficient and well priced online seller.
Not any more.
Especially with all these other online sellers (many of them are offering free shipping and no sales tax) in the market, how can Amazon compete if it takes two weeks to deliver a small piece of product like this one. And I am not using their so-called 'FREE' delivery (by UPS), I paid about $6 just to have it shipped 'normally', and it takes 2 weeks!!
This is totally an unacceptable timing - especially considering this is an Internet purchase, what's the point of buying online when you find something you want but you have to wait 2 weeks even if you paid for the shipping costs, why not just buy it in-store???
And since the product (e.g. this SD memory) is shipping from a warehouse within the US main land, what makes it take two week to arrive in Los Angeles, CA aside from an exceptionally inefficient shipper (in this case UPS)?
And this is not an individual incident, it has been like this for at least a year by now (initially I thought this type of late delivery just happened once a while), I am sure many other customers of Amazon are experiencing this type of unacceptable delivery schedule from Amazon/UPS.
Basically what it means to me is that I will not shop in Amazon again unless they can fix this shipping problem.
Customer Review: Better to get Two 512 MB Sandisk Ultra Cards...Here's Why Summary: 4 Stars
This is in response to the first reviewer's valid observation/comment, notably that "This card seems to have a good transfer rate when copying a small number of large files. However, it still crawls when compared to my panasonic 256MB SD card that is much older when copying a large number of small files." The reason for this is that the bigger the card, the longer the recycling time between shots or uploading or downloading files. The best explanation I heard is that info processing in memory cards is similar to it running around a track - the bigger the card, the longer it takes to get around the track. That's why I ALWYAS recommend people who insist on having 1 Gig memory to buy TWO separate 512 MB cards! Also, in the slim chance your card gets corrupted, you won't lose ALL of your precious photos. Btw, I have owned the ULTRA II versions of their Compact Flash Card, Secure Digital Card, and Memory Stick and have never had any problems. But it's always advisable to be "safe than sorry". Finally, unless it's an older camera, your camera will most likely benefit from the increased speed these cards allow. Therefore, I wholeheartedly believe they are worth the extra cost. I do NOT recommend the regular Sandisk cards however - they are Overpriced and SLOW.
Customer Review: The Fast SD Ultra II also available with USB port built in Summary: 5 Stars
Wow! I needed an SD card for my new digital camera. Speed of the disk is an issue these days. When you take a photo the disk has to store it then get ready for the next photo. Regular SD cards take some time to do that. So, if you are shooting rapidly, or doing video, you can quickly hit the limits of your regular SD cards speed. The Ultra II is in the next speed class up. It's plenty fast for all but the most extreme user. It's not as fast as the Extreme III, but that costs half again as much.
So, I was already sure the Ultra II 1GB was what I needed for size and speed. Then I saw it... the "Sandisk 1 GB Ultra II plus USB" (do a search) where the case of the SD card folds in half revealing a USB Hub Port. Which means you can plug your tiny 1 GB SC card straight into your laptop or computer through the USB port. No need for a card reader.
This card works in Treo 650s, digital cameras, and anything else that takes a type I SD card. With the USB version they even give you a free key chain that holds the SD card.
The USB version is big (memory), fast (memory access), and innovative (USB build in). For me it was worth a few extra dollars more than the regular Ultra II.
