Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk SDSDH-002G-A11 2GB/15MB Ultra II SD Card

Customer Review: Failed me over and over
Summary: 1 Stars

You think I'd have learned by now, but this card has failed me 4 or 5 times while on vacation. I shoot with a Nikon D50. I didn't know if it was the card or the camera, but judging by the other reviews, it's the card. I am good with computers, and have tried different ways of formatting the card, whether FAT or FAT32, with different cluster sizes, all which end up with corrupted images, or corrupted cards.

In all instances, I have been able to get "most" of the images off of the card, using photo recovery software. ZAR "Zero Assumption Recovery" works well and is free for digital images.

Good luck with this, seems like it's hit or miss whether you get a decent card, I wish I could return mine, but it's been over a year since I purchased it. I'm going to be buying 2 1GB cards to replace it. One thing I've learned is to always have a backup card!

Update: I contacted Sandisk and they provided me a label to ship it back and I had a new card within a few days. This is after having the card for over a year. Excellent support Sandisk!

Customer Review: Works Great
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this card several months ago to be used with a Panasonic DMC-FZ8 and it works flawlessly. It is "only" a memory card and does as asked. As to others that have had issues, we have not had any to date. I treat these cards as I do hard drives. I suggest testing them first before trusting them. Nothing is fool proof so failure is inevitable and expected. I suggest downloading the pictures into a computer whenever you have time. Just because it can hold a zillion pictures (actual number of pictures vary from camera to camera) doesn't mean you should keep the card in your camera all year and download them when the memory is full. All it needs is a little static electricity or surge of electricity and your photos could be gone. This can happen with any card, any storage device, any time. We backup our hard drives, so have a back up (second card) for your camera, and use them wisely.

It is better to lose one day of shooting than a year of memories.

Customer Review: Where is the price performance?
Summary: 3 Stars

I can get a SanDisk Ultra II for twice the price of a regular SanDisk's SD card and 3-4x of a genetic brand. I have yet seen the speed increase that is printed squarely on the package: 10mb/s read and 9mb/s. I got a new Sony Card reader that can read this Ultra II at 5.6-6.01 mb/s and write at 4.8 mb/s. My cheaper regular Dana-elec 1GB SD can read at 5.5 mb/s and the same write speed around 4.8 mb/s. This is data shown on the Vista's screen. I am not sure if the only time I will get the performance of the spec is to purchase a SanDisk Ultra II card reader.

I do have a Nikon D40 digital SLR and was thinking this uber performance card is for burst/continous speed, but other cards can do the same. I really didn't noticed any different between this model and the generic SD card except for the premium pricing of the Ultra II. So I don't see the price performance value here at all. It does work fine.

Customer Review: FAST, RELIABLE, QUALITY AT AN AMAZING PRICE

DONT THINK TWICE......GRAB A COUPLE OF THESE CARDS!!! I use a Canon S2IS and used a STANDARD 256 mb to 1gb SanDisk SD cards with no problems taking normal snapshots. Then I tried taking video clips with the STANDARD sd card in the canon. It came out choppy, with mega hesitations.
I happened to have a 1GB Ultra II SanDisk and popped it in. My Video shots came out PERFECTLY. Seamless, flawless and spot on. I ordered 2 of the 2GB cards for our trip to Alaska in June. I didnt want to lug a Video Camera with tapes and batteries, when this little Canon will do just as good a job. Do yourself a favor and check the SanDisk site to be sure this card is compatable with your electronic device before you buy it. then FORMAT the card soon as you get it. Finally, purchse a SanDisk brand card reader to upload the photos./ video's to your computer. Do those three things, and you'll not run into problems.

Customer Review: Amazon.com Affiliate Let Me Down
Summary: 5 Stars

The affiliate made a mistake in product delivery and sent the wrong flash chip - a cheaper version than the one I ordered or was pictured. I am sure it was an honest mistake, but I had to rush to Best Buy to buy what I needed as the old chip was almost full. (I do not erase chips, but archive the old ones as ultimate backups.) Of course I paid more than what Amazon.com advertised. However the chip is ideal for my Canon camera, and is what I will want again in about one year.

Affiliates of Amazon.com should be extra careful in shipping as their reputations are more fragile than that of Amazon.com. They were nice enough to not charge me for the card, but now I have a memory card that I cannot use. In several years of ordering books, electronics, etc., this is the first time I have had any problem with products ordered through Amazon.com.
