Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk SDDR-103 MobileMate SD+ 5-in-1 Mobile Reader (SD/ MiniSD/ MMC/ RS-MMC/ TransFlash, Retail Package)Customer Review: Falls short Summary: 2 Stars
Elegant design, poor execution. I like the form factor of this multi-flash reader, and the fact that they included two caps, one with a connection for a strap. However, it falls short because of trouble writing to SD cards. Since day 1, it has intermittently given me some trouble. It normally refuses to write to a non-write-protected SD card if the card is seated all the way in. I have to wiggle it out a half millimeter or so to make it work. Have had no problem with my 16MB and 32MB MMC cards, but I only use them when I need to transfer data and this reader is refusing to work properly. Have had no problems with a new Mini-SD card. I have not tried it with RS-MMC or TransFlash.
Customer Review: It does what it was desinged for. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to go with the transflash card for my cell phone. Works great..I can easily and quickly load/unload pics and mp3's and other files to and from my transflash. At work I can plug it in directly, at home I have to use the included short adaptor cable for the USB connection. Since it is a card reader, it is not meant to be used as a true thumb or jump drive. Stick your card in, transfer your files, and unplug it. I can see if you leave it sitting there for an extended period of time with the cards in it, the rubber cover will stop closing well or at all.
I've had no problems with my card sticking, falling out, not reading. I'm very happy with it.
Customer Review: Good but not great! Summary: 3 Stars
I've actually owned this item for about 2 or 3 years now. I'm actually writing this review because this item will not work with any memory card over 2gb! Like I said I've owned this item for a while now and I've never had any problems with it, but now that I own higher capacity memory cards, namely 4gb and higher, it won't detect the card at all. I attribute this to the older technology in the reader. I mean I'm no expert, but I am very computer literate, and I know that there is no reason for the card reader to not detect the card unless there is a problem with the reader. So if you plan on using this card with anything over 2gb, I say do it at your own risk!
Customer Review: Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
I got one of these so I had something that could easily travel with me, and load photos from my camera onto any computer necessary (instead of having one of the multi-readers that sits on your desktop and isn't really pocketable). It works like a champ (caveat: I've only used the SD slot as that's what my camera takes). True, the little rubber cover is not very secured in the slots, but I've have this reader for about a year now and it's yet to fall off or bend to the point where it doesn't protect the slots.
For those who want to put their cards in and leave them there to use as a portable drive... just go buy a portable USB memory stick.
Customer Review: SanDisk SDDR-103 MobileMate SD+ from SanDisk Summary: 1 Stars
This item did/does not perform as advertised. I have an exact duplicate from several years ago that works w/ camera chips larger than 2MB. This one does not. SanDisk has changed something internally so that, even though the model # and everything is identical on the outside, this newer reader doesn't perform w/ cameral chips larger than 2MB.
In communication w/ SanDisk they simply won't believe the problem and I have sent them pictures to prove the outside and model #'s are IDENTICAL on both.
Do not buy this product. I won't buy from SanDisk in future due to their handling/mishandling of this issue.
