Customer Review: Loose cap and slot cover, design a little awkward
Summary: 3 Stars

In terms of function USB card readers are a fairly straight-forward product category: you stick your card in and then plug the assembly into a USB port. That's about it. Some people may get hung up on transfer speeds, but I think that's more a function of the card. At any rate, this reader performs that basic function fine.

My issues with the reader are in terms of design.

1. Loose lanyard cap - The unit comes with two supplied caps that fit over the USB port: one for attaching it to a lanyard and one with a pocket clip. I use a lanyard for my ID badge at work and the lanyard cap was way too loose for the reader. Anytime something (my arm, my jacket, etc.) comes into contact with the reader it pops out of the cap and onto the floor. This may be a flaw specific to my unit, as the other cap fits snugly.

2. Card slot cover doesn't fit/work- There is a thin piece of flexible gray rubber designed to cover the slot where cards are inserted. This doesn't fit well and after a couple of uses the rubber stays flexed backward and away from the slot, allowing dirt and debris to get in (especially when it's on the floor). You can't even take this flap off if you wanted to, so it's just kind of hanging off the side of the unit.

3. Side loading design - This is getting nit-picky. You plug your card into the side, so the whole assembly looks like an 'L'. I'm always afraid I'm going to break-off my SD card or something when I insert or remove the unit. Mostly, I just think it's ugly.

This unit works fine for transferring files, but because it keeps falling off my lanyard it has migrated to the bottom of my gear bag, where it will probably stay.

Customer Review: Unfortunate cheap helpful item
Summary: 4 Stars

Because some older laptops do not have the "slots" this reader is a great inexpensive option. It is a little more bulky than a jump drive which I would say it the unfortunate, but it is a cheap way to fit the need.

Revision:
At first, I thought this item was just quick fix, but after using this item for a long several years I have found this to be a excellent option for one who is on the go.

Pros:
It is compatible with any laptop that has a USB port which is useful when having multiple media items that use different types of drives(SD'sSandisk 4GB Secure Digital SD HC Memory Card (SDSDB-4096, BULK, No Reader), Mini SDsTranscend TS2GSDM 2GB Mini-Secure Digital Card, Transflash,...)
The light on the non-connecting end that turns on when being read is a useful bonus
Very light and easy to store.

Cons:
Like most jump drives, the lid that covers the connecting side of the jump drive is hard to not
lose because it isn't attached to the jump drive after taking the lid off.

Great product that has not given me any problems over years!

Customer Review: Perfectly Met My Needs... and more
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally got this so I could access data from my cell phone's mini SD card on my computer, which at the time didn't have a card reader. However I have used this awesome little device in many other situations. It has been an invaluable addition to the junk I carry around with my laptop. One reviewer said that this will not work as a flash usb drive, and I disagree. I wouldn't recommend that application for everyday use, but if you need a usb flash drive and you don't have one you can usually find or find someone with a compatible memory card and voila you have a temporary usb flash drive. On more than one occasion I have been asked by someone at work if I could loan them a USB flash drive for a few minutes, and this little reader was the solution. Now most laptops and desktops come with these readers built in, but there are still plenty of other devices that have USB but not a card reader or not the kind of card reader you need. I can't attest to the devices relative speed or any other specs relative to any other device. These things were never important to me while I was using it. It's small enough to carry with me everywhere my laptop goes, and every time I needed it, it did what I needed it to.

Customer Review: Fast, Portable, Wonderful
Summary: 5 Stars

When I read 5-in-one, I was pretty surprise to see how tiny this thing is. All of my electronics ( cell phone, camera, Palm Pilot) use SD and micro-SD cards, so I was really just looking for a small reader who could handle those, and I found one who could handle even more.

Its is really fast, I have had it for a month and I have no problems at all with it

PROS
1) Very fast - works great with Windows XP. (no drivers to download)
2) Very portable - has a light indicator to let you know when it is plugged in and working.
3) Affordable - I purchased it in Bestbuy and it was pretty cheap!

CONS
1) Cheap protector flap - The flap that coveres the SD/MiniSD..etc slot is pretty flimsy. I am thinking of ripping it off as when it is not in use, it really does close all the way.
2) Cap can be easily lost - The cap can be lost easily as it is not connected to the reader, but on the flip-side, it can click-on to the back of the reader securely. (IT also has a place to add on your own landyard or keyring)

DO REMEMBER: This is just a card reader...you must supply your own cards for this little gadget to work!

Customer Review: Poorly Designed
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this thinking that some how the entire SD/MMC card would completely fit into the device therefore making it like a flash drive where I can upgrade the memory as larger capacity cards become available. I was wrong. The card sticks halfway out of the drive at a right angle making impossible to slip into vertically positioned USB ports without the extender cable.

Furthermore the rubber slot cover is useless. To insert the card you need to bend back the rubber slot cover which doesn't hinge back. It just bends back. Of course if you leave card in the drive for any decent length of time, the cover will "remember" being bent back and basically stay bent. You'll never have it seal the card slots securely again. Ultimately, I regret getting this. Sure it's small, but if you're looking for a USB thumb drive substitute don't get this. You're better off just getting a drive with built in memory where you can stick it into the port without suffering 2-3 more steps or an awkwardly shaped flash drive wannabe.
