Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk ImageMate 12-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader SDDR-89-A15

Customer Review: Must have item...
Summary: 5 Stars

Had mine for a long time with never a problem. Did not install software and Win XP automatically sees any card plugged into it. Use CF and xD cards with mine. Always had a problem pushing in a CF card until I discovered you need to slant the card to the right slightly then it pushes in easily. Xd cards are also a little tricky to push in but you soon learn how to push them in correctly. Never could figure out what the button on the side was used for, thanks to other reviewers I now know it only works if you install the software. I don't know how I could be without this reader. Who wants to hook up your camera to your computer to download pictures or video, not me, this works great and fast and the LED's for each card slot let you know everythings working. I love it, highly recommend it, get it..

Customer Review: Does what irt is supposed to...
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought this memory card reader because my prior card could not read SD memory cards greater than 2 gigs. Unfortunately, the prior 8 in 1 ImageMate could not be upgraded via software. Not willing to make this mistake again, I purchased a 12 in 1 ImageWriter and checked ScanDisk's website. For a given model, there are multiple serial numbers wherein some can be upgraded via software and others can not. Further, you can not discern the serial number until you remove the product from its buble package. So, you may have a problem if you unknowingly buy old stock online. Way to go ScanDisk! But it keeps their sales churning! Product is nicely built. New 12 in 1 has push button on the side that launches app that transfers files to pc but not vice versa. I found this app not very useful.

Customer Review: SD port easy to damage
Summary: 4 Stars

I am generally happy with this reader (+5). It has good speed, and read/write every card I throw at it. It has been working really well, until read-only detection pin in the SD port gets bent(-1). All it takes is one slightly misaligned insertion and the pin will get pushed from the side to the bottom of the port. At first, the port doesn't even detect card insertion. But I think I have "fixed" it so that the port is read-only from now on. You can look into it and see if there is a half-an-inch metalic strip at the bottom, extending from the left. That strip may not have been bent enough to allow the card to be fully inserted. In that case, you may either cut it (hard) or simply push the pin with a screwdriver until it lays flush at the bottom. This solved my problem.

Customer Review: Computer crash
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this product because of the multiple good reviews. Though it should have been able to have been installed on my Windows 98 second edition, my attempt at installing the software crashed the computer. Dell was able to get it running after a very lengthy service call. They suggested that I get the Sandisk support group to guide me through the installation process but the same thing happened again. Neither Sandisk nor Dell has been able to get my computer running again except in Safe Mode. I have returned the product to Amazon and have purchased a new computer. Whether the problem was my aging operating system or the product I do not know, but I certainly won't risk this happening again. I'd have to rate this 0 stars, but this selection is not available.

Customer Review: An Almost-Perfect Product
Summary: 4 Stars

This little reader worked perfectly out-of-the-box on all the types of memory cards I have laying around. One very nice feature that doesn't seem to ever be mentioned in the advertising is that the unit can be divorced from the silly "pedestal", and becomes pocket-sized and very light. One fairly serious and very silly flaw is that the USB connector is recessed into a rectangular hole in the case that is just a little bit too small to accept an ordinary USB equipment cable, requiring the use of the included six-inch USB cable that has a connector that sticks out another few millimeters. The case could be cut out to accept a standard cable (I think), but what a dumb mistake in case design! Other than that, it's a great little product.
