Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk ImageMate 12-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader SDDR-89-A15

Customer Review: Nice, attractive product
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this card reader/writer after buying a cheaper unit that was a big disappointment. I have mostly been very pleased as I use it to write/read a compact flash microdrive (type II) and it worked right away for that purpose. It has a main power lamp plus an "active" led for each type of card which can be inserted. I also wanted a mobile unit for use with a laptop when on vacation (I use the micro drive in a Canon Powershot G1 digital camera) so the included short USB interface cable works perfect. My only complaint (a minor one) is that I have not been able to get the file transfer button software to work correctly (I'm running Win98SE) but it's not required to use the unit. I would buy another of these handy devices.

Customer Review: Bad news
Summary: 1 Stars

The original iteration (the vertical version) of this 12-in-1 card reader crapped out on me within 90 days, wouldn't read or present any card, in any slot, of any size.

Amazon's 30-day return policy didn't help me a bit, even though the item had a two-year manufacturer's warranty. There's no place on this site I can discuss this issue with an Amazon rep, at least that I could find.

I had to buy another card reader with overnight delivery to get projects accomplished.

I've spent a lot of money with Amazon over the years and their intractibility with this issue is distressing. Amazon is convenient, and often best-priced...but I'll be shopping more carefully in the future.

Customer Review: True Plug-n-Play!
Summary: 5 Stars

This multiple format card reader and writer works great! I didn't install the software with a PC running XP Home and it works just fine. It reads every type of card I've placed in it and, unlike some others units, it can read multiple cards at once. Each card slot is identified as a separate drive on your computer, so you can have cards in every slot. If you need to transfer data from one type of card to another, you don't have to first copy the files to your computer's hard drive; you simply drag and drop and the SanDisk reader reads from one card and writes to another. This is a USB 2.0 device, but it works fine on 1.1 compliant computers as well. Great device -- does what it promises with no issues.

Customer Review: Easy to use, works well
Summary: 5 Stars

I was tired of running the cord from my digital camera to my computer every time I wanted to store photos (and even though I have a fairly new computer, I bought it just before card readers came standard). Our old camera used Memory Stick, our new camera uses the smaller Memory Sticks, and my phone uses mini-SD. This thing handles them all easily. Each separate "reader" appears as a separate drive to your computer (Memory Sticks in one, SD cards in another, and so on--I think it appears as 4 drives in all), so there is no problem with recognition. It doesn't take up my space, and it actually even looks kind of good sitting next to my router. Love it (and the price on Amazon was way under the box stores).

Customer Review: Finally! Something really for the consumer!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm so sick and tired of formats for digital cards, video games and all sorts of electronics that are outdated within months of purchase. Great for the industry. Lousy for the consumer. These things aren't cheap and having a camera with an outdated memory card format is so frustrating. Buying card readers for just one card type can also add up when you have multiple camera types within a single family. This little reader solved that problem and we love it! It is very reasonably priced, handles up to 12 different kinds of memory cards and works like a charm. We bought two. I'm buying two more for our other home computers and putting these on my Christmas List for friends and family. Great Item!
