Customer Review: Sandisk 4GB Cruzer Titanium USB Flash Drive with U3
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed a large capacity flash drive and took a chance on the Cruzer. Thus far I am pleased with its function. I have used it on my home Windows-ME computer (even though only Windows 2000 and XP are listed)and transferred the data at work using their Windows-XP platform. No problems. Apparently also works on MAC (but not the U3 program) and Linux. This is a fast transfer device, but worked fine on my slower USB port. This device is unique in that it functions like a hard drive, with the ability to crate separate folders for different documents. Has its own ejection program for safe removal, but works just as well via the Windows program. After I determined that the 4GB drive worked so well, I purchased a 2GB drive for smaller projects. I do not know about VISTA, you might check their website to see if there is a patch.

Customer Review: Good Product!
Summary: 4 Stars

This flash drive is very solidly built. Hence, the name "cruzer titanium." It comes preloaded with U3 software which is very useful especially if you regularly use "outsider's" computers. With this software, you can personalize other computers to make it your own such as your bookmarks for internet explorer. Unfortunately, I had to uninstall the U3 software b/c it wasn't compatible with my Phillips 5982 upconvert dvd player. After the uninstall, the flash drive worked nicely with the 5982. One word of advice, once you uninstall the U3 software, there's no way or reinstalling this. So if you have the 5982 dvd player, and really want to make use of this U3 software, I suggest looking for a different Flash Drive. I mainly use this flash drive to upload movies and pics so I'm fine with not having this feature.

Customer Review: Headaches
Summary: 1 Stars

I work in IT, and have used many of these from several companies. I used to recommend Sandisk, and we bought over 25 for our office last year. But I've had repeated data corruption problems with the Titanium Cruzer 4G. Saved Word documents were mysteriously corrupt the next time they were accessed. I'm using it on a brand new desktop and a 3 month old laptop, both in perfect condition, and the problem continued after reformatting the stick. I called Sandisk after it occurred a few times and got the typical run around. They finally said they'd replace it, conceding that they'd had some "bad batches". That was two weeks ago and I'm still waiting. They've lost a good customer.

PS. Other experience: PNY cases break easily from regular use. I've had good luck with Kingston so far.

Customer Review: Good, but not great.
Summary: 4 Stars

Obviously a review of the storage is not needed, so I will point out the issues I had with mine:

1) Advertised to be extra durable, even with very light usage over the course of a few months the USB connector started to loosen to the point that for a data connection to be created I had to wiggle the USB key until the circuit was completed.

2) The U3 software, while a great idea, most of the time these applications are needed it is on a computer other than your own. As we all know, friend's laptops and computer labs are usually not state-of-the-art and this software can spend minutes loading before you have access to your data. I did remove the software, but to remove it completely you need to download a tool from SanDisk website, which is more of a hassle than it should have been.

Customer Review: USB connector is VERY tight
Summary: 3 Stars

I had so much trouble connecting this to my computer that I sent the first one back and got a replacement. Unfortunately, this one's just as difficult to connect! I tested on 4 different USB ports and have to fight to insert it every time. I have *lots* of computer experience, so that wasn't the issue. BTW, Amazon was great about taking the first one back.

Once connected, it works well. Good speed, U3 software works fine and doesn't take up much room.

The retractable USB connector is cool, though I think a real cap would protect it better. It just retracts into the body, but you could still get pocket lint, sand, etc inside the connector. This thing has enough trouble plugging in, so I'd guess that the extra problems from you'd get from grit would make it unusable.
