Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 512 MB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ4-512-A10, Retail Package)Customer Review: Sandisk memory sticks a must Summary: 5 Stars
My Sandisk memory sticks are a must have component to my computer operations since losing a almost new 40Gb Seagate hard drive back in August. I use the 512Mb and 256Mb sizes since Windows 98SE is my preferred operating system. With the help of a batch file created by me, I merely place one of a dozen memory sticks in the USB port on the front of my eMachines computer and let the batch file back-up the graphics, web site, text file, digital photos, program source files or ?whatever? to that spedific stick - giving me daily back-ups of stuff that's too valuable to lose in a fire or hard drive crash.
One stick is around my neck and is used to download files from the internet while at a remote computer (public library, for instance) that can be saved on my home computer later. It also holds the daily updates to the dozens of web sites I maintain that are uploaded at the much faster high speed public library computers.
Customer Review: An excellent device, though different from the one pictured Summary: 5 Stars
I had purchased this model in the 256 MB size and wanted the small capacity in a 512 MB model. What I got was apparently a newly designed, slimmer model than the previous cruzer micro. The rubber is gone, making the device extra slim, the thickness of a USB connector and as long as two quarters placed side by side. It's small enough to fit in one's wallet, and very nice. If you liked the rubber grip of the old model, this one still comes with 3 rubber "skins" of different colors to customize your micro. The blue light is now green.
The transfer speed is much better than older flash drives (64 megs) and saving small files like word documents or a few music files is basically instantaneous, though large files (>10 MB) take a while to save. The Sandisk Cruzer titanium has a better transfer rate if speed is critical, however it is about 4 times the volume and costs twice as much. It just depends what is important to you.
Customer Review: This one is the best Summary: 5 Stars
I've broken at least 5 other USB drives. Most have a plastic body and a wobbly connector. The Cruzer Micro is one solid piece of metal with an outer coating of plastic. Make sure you get the micro and not their previous stuff. The earlier stuff is not nearly as rugged.
Yeah, you'll lose the cap, but who cares ? I've not seen any others I like better. Most lose their caps, or have some goofy cap that is always in the way. At least the thing won't be broken in 2 months like all of mine have been. Nothing like having 1/2 Gig in your pocket and no worries about breaking it. I thought I'd NEVER fill it up, but with digital photos and videos so large these days, you can put almost as much on this guy as a CD !!! I also keep the tether on it, so I won't lose it. But don't wear it around your neck unless you want to be the biggest nerd in the building !!!!
Amazing, and the blue light is REALLY cool.
Customer Review: Pro's outway the con's Summary: 3 Stars
I've been happy with the micro. It's size is unbelieveable compared to much of it's competition, not only does it not weigh you down but if there's a USB port available on your tower this thing is going to fit without alot of rearranging. The drive's stainless steel chassis doesn't seem to get hot and there is some great easy to use security software already installed.
On the downside it is a bit slower than the flash drive I use at work (512 PNY Attache), especially when transfering lots of smaller files (I have alot of visual studio.net project folders I need to shuffle around so this is a hinderence.) Also the mp3 player Sandisk makes to work with these (as a music drive) is nowhere near the quality of the cruzer micro itself.
All in all I'm happy with the purchase and plan on using my cruzer micro for 2-3 years. I would recommend purchasing it so long as the speed doesn't bother you.
Customer Review: SanDisk Cruzer PocketCache Backup Software Summary: 5 Stars
Works great! I was so please with the ease of use that I bought two more similar SanDisk flash drives, with different capacities.
There did seem to be one small fluke with the Trial version of the PocketCache backup software. The trial version of the backup software, PocketCache, claims to do incremental backups (i.e. only backs up files that have changed since the previous snapshot backup) but when I tried this the second snapshot backup seemed to take just as long as the first, even though only a few files had been changed. However, the next time I did a snapshot backup indeed it took only a few seconds, as it should, and only added a few KB to the size of the backup file. If this continues to work as it should, it could be a very convenient solution to maintaining current backups of your large and frequently updated folders, such as your My Documents folder.
