Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 512 MB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ4-512-A10, Retail Package)

Customer Review: TOP PERFORMER: 512MB USB Flash Drives
Summary: 5 Stars

While its tiny physical size and its large 512MB capacity are both very attractive, the best feature of this device is the built-in keyring at the end of the unit which enables you to attach this drive to your keychain. This is a feature that I have not seen in any other USB flash drives. This drive is so small and so durable that you can permanently leave it on your keychain to take with you everywhere you go. If a USB flash drive is not easy to carry around, then you will not carry it around; and if you're not going to carry it around, then what's the point of having one of these???

And this really is teeny-tiny. This is noticeably small than all the other flash drives that Amazon sells. Transfer speed is comparable to most other USB 2.0 drives. By the way, you WILL lose the cap at the end; just accept that fact and don't worry about it. On a different Sandisk drive that I own, I've gone without the cap for over 2 years without any problems (got my fingers crossed).

Customer Review: Excellent, mandatory item for many
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a high school student and I find this flash drive incredibly useful, I used to have a Lexar Secure Flsh drive (128mb) and I replaced it twice after breaking constantly, well this baby is solid, I carry it in my pocket all day, and yes the large cap they provide does not last long, the small one a little longer, however they begin to wear and loosen hold on the drive, however having dropped it, and abused it, it still works fantastically, I store all my files for school in here, I use it for many classes including Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Graphics, Journalism, you name it I store it, I've even been able to successfully run programs off it like iTunes and Firefox, the drive is small, convenient, and very handy, and has a cool blue light during connection, not to mention 512mb is a huge amount of room, my fellow classmates have often shown interest and curiosity in my cool flash drive. I love it, and would not trade it for any other flash drive.

Customer Review: Still great after 3 years
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this over 3 years ago; and it is still on my keychain, unfortunately overly full.

I have had a number of other USB drives in that time, each of them has failed in some way. My kingston drive had a key ring set into cheap plastic that broke after a month of carrying, I am not even sure where it is anymore. Other drives have had the metal USB sleeve fall off; still others from various manufacturers have simply died.

My only problem has been the protective cap that I lost almost 3 years ago. However, since I carry this drive nearly daily without a problem, I don't really worry about the cap on this model anyhow.

Because of it's performance and reliability, I am actually considering buying another one of these rather than going with a 2 or 4 GB model that I want. I could really use the space, but what good is it if the drive is useless in a few months?> With this model, I know I am getting the best.

Customer Review: Small rocks
Summary: 5 Stars

Just the size of this USB drive is enough to give it 5 stars. I know there are smaller ones out there, but this one is only a tad larger and much more securely built. I've owned a few lexar and SanDisk USB drives, and all of their USB plugs get loose within a month of use. I loved the oversized covering for the drive that covered the whole unit--not just the usb plug. However, I don't think it is offered any more since they have moved to rubber skins for the new models. This is probably for the best since those old plastic protectors would get worn down from use and fall off the drive in transport. As for speed, this thing is definetly USB 2.0 and fast. If you've used a USB 1x drive, you'll notice a huge difference. I have seen some USB drives that perform faster (the Corsair models) but this one is still fast enough. Highly recommended, especially if you can score the rebates. Mine came in almost exactly 6 weeks after purchase.

Customer Review: U3 is a problem for me
Summary: 4 Stars

I just got one for Christmas and found I cannot use it at work.

I am a contractor to the Army, and the Department of Defense has very strict rules about installation of unauthorized software; even if the software resides completely on a thumb drive, you cannot run unauthorized executables on DoD computers - if you do, you get fired, simple as that.

I can't delete the additional drive partition or the U3 interface application, and every time I've tried to use it on my work PC, it tries to install U3 - even though I went through the configuration menu and deselected the box allowing it to autorun. Shy of some pretty potent disk-management utility that overrides the protections, I don't know how to make the Cruzer useful to me.

If you're going to use this device at work, make sure your employer doesn't have a serious problem with the U3 application; if you work for DoD, you don't need this device.
