Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 512 MB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ4-512-A10, Retail Package)Customer Review: This is the most strudy thumb drive there is, SANDisk later versions are way more lame! Summary: 5 Stars
This thumb drive is killer awesome. It is strudy and big enough to be missed. Unlike the newer tiny easy to lose cheaply built drives SANDisk is making now. This drive can take a whipping and keep going strong.
I am a disabled dude and makes no difference if I am walking or in my wheelchair this drive can take the odd shocks, drops and falls that are an everyday part of life for me. The newer SanDisk drives are these tiny metal things wrapped in the cheapest plastic their is. The plastic used in the newer SanDisk products is just one step up from sandwich bags making them utterly useless.
This drive is well built the way a quality product should be. This drive is fast easy to use and easy to hold for a cerebral palsied dude. The new SanDisk drives are so small if you have a mobility impairment like cerebral palsy the drive is so small they are hard to grip and harder to place in the USB slot. Sometimes really small is too small. Too bad SanDisk did not stick with this winning disabled friendly design because it beats cold all the other junk they produce now.
Too bad the 2 Gig SanDisk products are not engineered to the high standards this version is. This version of the SanDisk drive is awesome the newer small things they make are almost worthless.
Customer Review: I just have to say... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this a few years back for its size and back then the 1 GB flash drives were still kinda expensive. My favorite feature is that it fits perfectly in that small right-hand mini pocket in your jeans. I sometimes forget I have it in there. This became apparent recently when I forgot to take it out of my jeans and it got thrown in the washing machine. I didn't find it for a week even though I checked the washer; I didn't check the gasket that goes around the door (it's a front loader). After three washes, one of which was the super-hot extended cycle, I finally found it sitting in a puddle of water somewhat faded and wet. I dried it off and plugged it in my laptop and immediately copied my files over. I couldn't believe it still worked. I wanted to wait awhile to see what happened before I put new stuff on it. I'm glad I did because after a few days it died on me. When I plugged it in I got an error message saying it needed to be formatted. This was a few weeks ago and after formatting it I haven't had any problems. If you are looking for a flash drive, I really have to recommend these. Unlike some other flash drives, these have a metal case surrounded by a plastic/rubber skin making them more durable.
Customer Review: I love these things! Summary: 5 Stars
I have bought several of these 512 Sandisk Cruzer Micros, and I don't think i could be happier. I think I will probably be getting one or two of the 1 GB as well soon.
I have an older computer, so it doesn't have as much storage to hold my videos, so these give me a place to send them off to after I'm finished making them. I've also used them to carry files to and from computer class, and I've never found them to malfunction.
Also, I've figured out a "fix" for the "losing the rubber sleeve" problem: When you first get your jump drive, write on the little white label on the side, your name, a title, whatever (I write a number, and in a notebook I write a list of what I have on that number drive.)
The little label area is small, so I advise writing with a very sharp pencil, and wiping off any graphite dust carefully with a napkin. Then cover this with a piece of scotch tape, just long enough to cover the white label area.
When you put the rubber sleeve back on, you will find that the tape makes it just snug enough to have it stay on. With the cap, just make sure you don't knock it around too much, perhaps a small bag made of felt or something.
Customer Review: Excelent but beware of U3 Summary: 4 Stars
This drive is great. Small, rugged, and fast.
One complaint: It seems that manufacturers are adding a "U3" system to USB drives that allows some U3 compatable software to run off the USB drive, thus allowing enhanced portability. There aren't many programs available for this yet so it is of dubious advantage.
The disadvantage is that it takes up 4MB that you can't get back (my computer says it has only 482 MB because the 512 MB claim is based on 1MB=1 million bites) and it takes up two drive letters when installed. The first is a fake CD ROM drive set up by the USB drive that autostarts the U3 software.
The extra drive letter isn't a big deal except that if some software is looking for a specific drive, the actual drive letter will be different depending on if the USB drive has U3 on it or not. I'd really like to get this off the drive so it doesn't start running something I don't want it to run but I don't see how.
There is no documentation for this U3 feature and it was not listed on the package. My drive looked like the one in the package with the red and blue skins shown in user photos.
Customer Review: TINY & BIG! Summary: 4 Stars
This is just a quick review in response to a couple of previous reviews.
One reviewer mentioned that it's not great for a keychain because of the slot which doesn't let it move freely (true) and the cap that keeps falling off (not mine). I would suggest for him to put a dab of super glue on the inside sides of the cap, this should make it tighter. The thing I didn't understand about the review was his cons had to to with having it on a keychain, yet he summed up the review by saying "Overall, I would not recommend this product to anyone who wants to carry a flash drive in their pockets."
Shouldn't it say "on their keychain"?? I specifically use this drive BECAUSE it fits in my pocket completely unnoticed. It's as if it's not there! I love it for this reason.
As for the other review about it being slow, yes I'm sure there are larger faster drives, but the drive is not "slow" per se, just slower than others.
I think the trade off is great. I don't notice a lack of speed too much (though I gave it only 4 stars because of this), but best of all, I don't notice the drive at all. =)
