Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-4096-E11Customer Review: Annoying but useful Summary: 4 Stars
U3 is annoying, especially on computers at work where they disable administrative privileges. I just hold down the Shift Key when inserting the drive and no problems will arise. Sandisk rep told me that if you remove the U3 software, you CAN put it back on. It is not a one shot deal. This is contrary to what some of the earlier reviewers have stated.
Also, contrary to what another recent reviewer wrote below, you CAN use this drive with another sandisk. I have an old 256mb cruzer mini. The cruzer mini was inserted first and then the 4gb micro. The mini is E: while the micro took F: and G:. I've tried inserting vice versa and still the same results. Always take these reviews with a grain of salt...even mine. I'm on a Dell Latitude D800 w/ Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2 with no admin rights.
Customer Review: Good Cruzer Summary: 4 Stars
I'm very pleased with this product so far, I haven't had any problems. Being able to carry 4gb of info on my keychain and able to take it anywhere is very helpful. It's very compact and the retractable usb is cool (and functional) too. As for the U3, to me, I think it's absolutely worthless and defeats the whole purpose of having a flash drive due to the amount of time it takes to start-up/load system files. It loads software on each computer it's plugged into and it adds a CD Drive on My Computer to hold it's system files. To me, it was just a waste of space (minimal space, but a waste) and I opted to remove the U3 permanently. If you like the idea of the drive, but don't want U3, just go to www.u3.com/uninstall to remove it. If Sandisk hadn't pre-installed the U3, I would have given this 5 stars.
Customer Review: Worst drive ever, Sandisk support just as bad Summary: 1 Stars
Do yourself a favor, do not risk your money on this flash drive. It works reasonably well (very slow) as a flash drive, once you remove the U3 software. That is, IF you can remove the U3 software. And if you need assistance removing the U3 software, you can call Sandisk Support. IF you get someone who understands the English language, you MIGHT eventually get the U3 software removed. Oh, and if the U3 software is why you bought the drive in the first place, tough luck. Sandisk will not offer you a refund because technically the drive is working, even though the drive causes an error whenever you eject it. Do yourself a favor, there are a lot of alternative flash drives. Don't risk your money on this one. If you do decide to risk your money, good luck if you ever need support from Sandisk.
Customer Review: Great Travel Companion Summary: 5 Stars
I travel 3-5 days per week in my job and end up using many different computers. That's why I love U3. I use Firefox to keep all of my bookmarks and plug-ins available on any computer. I use Thunderbird to manage my personal e-mail. I use Zinio Reader to store and read the several digital magazines to which I subscribe to avoid paper. I can do all of this from any computer with USB anywhere I go without having any effect on that computer. This is great given my company's incredibly rigid IT policy (absolutely no personal software on company machines, including laptops).
U3 can be a bit slow, but not frustratingly so. You can set your computer to not run U3 on connecting.
The drive has great capacity in a small and durable package. I recommend it to any traveler.
Customer Review: Cool Technology Summary: 4 Stars
First of all, I have to say I love the U3 technology that allows you to carry programs along with you. As someone who relies heavily on access to email (who doesn't?), I love having my full inbox with me at all times. However, I have to say that as a grad student who uses this jump drive on many different computers with varying levels of security, I have had difficulties on several different PCs that have not acknowledged the U3 programs, and in some cases even couldn't use the jump drive portion. I have one course in a heavily secured computer lab and I can't even open this jump drive. I know its not the fault of cruzer, or this drive, but still is pretty annoying. All that being said, I still love this drive. Its hard to believe that 4GB can fit onto such a small piece of equipment.
