Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-4096-E11Customer Review: A great little Thumbdrive Summary: 4 Stars
It used to be that when you needed to go help fix someone else's computer, you would have a stack of floppies that had the programs you needed to do the job. Then came CD, which while bigger than a floppy, held quite a bit more. Then came the idea of using Linux Live CD distros as a tool to fix other people's computers.
Now with the 4GB flash drive you can do all of that in a package that's easy to carry in your pocket, and unfortunately also very easy to lose. The end retracts to make this just over 2" long and about 3/4" wide. That's pretty damn small.
It DOES come with a little ring on one end so you can attach it to your keys or whatever. I suggest putting a string or something on it because even if you just set this down for a second you WILL lose it. It's almost too small.
It comes preloaded with some software that you'll probably never use, but on the other hand, if you like being able to use skype but don't want it on your computer permanently, that'll be handy, as it's one of the included applications.
In any case, this is great for the total storage almost equalling a DVD, so you can put a larger Linux distro on there and still have room for some windows applications too.
Customer Review: U3 is a disaster Summary: 1 Stars
This is a great example of a simple device made too complicated to be useful. I love the concept of the flash drive: plug it in and you have an instant additional drive. The SanDisk Cruzer Micro, however, is not it.
Plug it in and you get a bloated, slow, cumbersome, and opaque operating system that only an uber-geek could love. Judging by the reviews here, there are many uber-geeks who love it. The rest of us should pass.
To start, it could not load itself onto my computer. It was probably because it was so slow that after about 5 minutes of no apparent activity I just pulled it out. Big mistake. Rather, big affront to the uber-geeks who designed it: you're not supposed to pull it out unless you say "please" by giving a command in some obscure part of their program.
Then it was only partially there: I could see the drive but not the contents. Then, 10 minutes later, it decided to tell me that 3 obscure files could not be loaded - did I want to remove them from the Micro? Yes, I said. Who knows what happened then? Only the uber-geeks know.
It's going back tomorrow. Save yourself a lot of trouble and stay away from this unnecessarily complicated monstrosity.
Customer Review: Cruzer Micro 2 GB Summary: 1 Stars
Like some others here I feel quite annoyed with this product. I bought it because it was small, 2GB and had no cap to lose - not that I have ever lost one but less is more in this case. I used it on the PC and became quite irritated with the U3 interface, it presented a layer of interference I did not need - I wanted a 2GB flash memory device that would mount and unmount like the others I use, but U3 was constantly in the way.
I also use a Mac and I am migrating more work onto a Mac laptop for a variety of reasons, but everytime I used the SanDisk on the Mac I got aq CD which wanted to be burnt - I could NOT get it to work properly. So finally, in frustration, I set aside some time to investiagate this and I read that this product is not compatible with a Mac.
I may be mistaken but I was sure I read that it worked equally well with PCs and Macs, but even so - this is a Flash memory drive. I would never have thought anything other than I plug it in and bang - 2GB storage!
Well. I'll read the package much more carefully in the future. I'll also keep the packaging for longer so I can return the thing. As it is, I have wasted my money.

Customer Review: ScanDisk and the unwanted SW plague !! Summary: 2 Stars
I finally dealt with the extremely annoying SW Scandisk put on their memory sticks, and which has annoyed me ever since I bought this 2 GB stick last year. The U3 SW is junk,,,, like all the crap companies are putting on their stuff these days. "Hey let's put some software that gets installed automatically on the user's computer, and that they cannot simply erase, 'cause we're sure they want us cluttering up their computers and directories with a lot of crappy SW that offers nothing and cause's things to slow down, and annoys the HECK out of people !!!" Get the picture. When will the SUITS that run these companies learn we don't want their junk on our machines. I bought a memory stick, not a sw package, and I bought it for the convenience of a quick way to move data around,,,, NOT TO MAKE IT 5 TIMES SLOWER TO USE !!! But what can you expect from this generation of SUITS that have crashed the US economy into the ground. They are hopeless.
Apart from the U3 junk SW this stick works VERY well !!! One complaint though, the slider is sometimes very inconvenient to use when trying to insert in awkward USB locations. It should be lockable so you don't have to use your thumb.

Customer Review: Not a speed demon but pretty good Summary: 4 Stars
The 4mb Cruzer flash does everything it was billed to do. Reading other use reviews before I bought it made me a little suspicious about how it leaves no footprints behind on other systems but I'm very satisfied that the manufacturer's claims are indeed true. Backups aren't quite as fast as I thought they might be and I had to move many files and folders around and reorganize them under "My Documents" so that they would automatically update. Before, I had material all spread out on my desktop which served me well but wasn't recognized by the Cruzer because it was outside of the My Documents folder that it is coded to look for. Not a big deal really. Outlook contacts, info and emails were a no-brainer; they backed up without any issues. Note that Cruzer does not copy over shortcuts or any applications even if they are in the target folder. It has its own that, for better or for worse, are workable. If I operate under the assumption that the guest PC I plug into on the road has all necessary Microsoft Office apps, I can then literally carry around my entire practice on my keyring. Flash drives are pretty amazing and I recommend this one. It's cheap and it works.
