Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-4096-A11

Customer Review: Excellent Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

The drive does come with software that I don't use, but it doesn't mean I won't use it since some people do use it. The software is not compatible with Vista but since I don't use it, I don't care. It's not much of an inconvenience and I haven't had any problems with the device.
Only reason I'm writing this review is that I was amazed by the quality of this product. I lost it in my laundry hamper, and it unfortunately went through a heavy cycle in the washer and later on a heated cycle through the dryer. I thought the device was toast and my files lost, but that wasn't the case. My files are in tact and I'm still using the same drive a month later (hope it doesn't fail, but if it does, at least I'll know why).

Customer Review: Don't get this unless you REALLY want the U3!
Summary: 2 Stars

I've had no problems with reliability or anything like that, which is why it gets 2 stars instead of 1. The problem is that I use a Mac, and the U3 system is useless on Macs. It is also not removable, even by reformatting the drive. It's very annoying that when I plug it into a computer it automatically tries to pretend that there's a CD there, and Windows computers sometimes give pop-up messages about it. I thought I could use this drive as a plain-old flash drive, but the fact that the U3 feature cannot be turned off or removed is an enormous pain. I'm probably going to buy a different one, and I would recommend against buying this drive, at least until SanDisk makes it possible to remove the U3 system.

Customer Review: owned 1 and will buy another
Summary: 5 Stars

I owned one of these for two years. I ... err ... washed it once (but didn't dry it- I'm not that bad ;-)) and it still worked. I finally broke it when the pc it was inserted into fell over and crushed it breaking the retractable usb jack right off. I was using it with portableapps as I didn't like U3. There is a U3 uninstaller on the site, but I believe that I wound up just deleting everything off the drive and installing portableapps. After I broke it, I bought a Kdata my flash. It is so slow compared to the cruzer that I just can't take it. I am about to order a new cruzer- 8 GB I think this time.
I had absolutely no problems with it once I removed the U3 programs, and I heartily recommend it.

Customer Review: U3 doesn't work as expected.
Summary: 3 Stars

From what I read I expected it to be able to start programs automatically from the CD portion using autorun but that's not how it works. When it's plugged in it creates 2 different kinds of drives, a thumb drive and a CD-Rom drive. However, there doesn't seem to be anyway to use the CD autorun function to run a program, instead the U3 feature starts up a menu and you have to pick one from the menu. It lets you add programs to the menu but not just any program, they have to be specially written for U3. I was able to get the special version of Skype to start but other programs that don't have a U3 version won't run so all I could do was copy them to the thumb drive section and start them manually.

Customer Review: Defective after a few months
Summary: 1 Stars

I liked this product, software and all, until it quit working. I guess it worked for about 5-7 months. I used it every day at work. It started giving messages like "This device can perform faster if you connect it to a USB 2.0 port." which means it wasn't connecting at full USB 2.0 even though it IS a USB 2.0 port. It also became unstable so that if you even breathed on it, it would disconnect. That would happen no matter what PC I connected it to. Sometimes it won't connect at all and I get the "Device not recognized" message and I have to keep unplugging / plugging back in until I can access it. I simply can't trust this USB drive or give it other than a bad rating because of this.
