Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-4096-A11Customer Review: Causes Problems Summary: 1 Stars
Once plugged in to a USB port the inexpensive Cruzer attempts to download 3 separate software programs onto your hard drive, and this has created problems. There is some sort of operating software that the Cruzer tries to download. My first attempt at using this USB drive was to transfer a file from a home computer to the office computer: home computer antivirus kept fighting it and the office computer refused to allow access. And I find it very annoying that Scandisck company has decided that I will now have Skype open up every time I start my computer and automatically begin the program for me, an example of low class invasive advertising.
I don't want a flash drive with software: I want a flash drive that is a storage device plain and simple. My wife works at a public library and she says that customers using library computers often have problems with the Scandisk flash drives because of this attempting to download software aspect.
And there is no cap: There is no protection from getting dirt, debris, or lint into the port.
I threw this in the trash replacing it with a PNY 4gb USB drive that works just fine.
Customer Review: Wait...its washer 4 Stars
Okay, this is a bit of an off the wall review, but decided it is DEFINITELY worth posting!!
I bought this flash drive to replace my old one that I lost. This SanDisk is a great size, fits nicely on a keychain with keys. The sliding mechanism does operate smoothly, but I found I needed to hold the slider in the out position when plugging it in, or the USB head would want to slide back into the housing. That is the ONLY negative thing I have to say about this flashdrive!
Back to the washer machine.... being the typical male, I forgot to empty my jean pockets one day and this sandisk when for a 57 minute spin through my Whirlpool washer. The wife brings it upstairs and says "sucker!", then throws it on my desk. I let the flash drive sit for a day, plugged it in.......and holy crap, it works just fine!!! Not only does it work as it did when new, the little orange light still
4 out of 5 stars because it lasted the heavy duty cycle in the washer! Without that, I would have gone 3 out of 5 because having to hold the slide mechanism out while plugging it in is a bit of a hassle.
Customer Review: All Good Summary: 5 Stars
Another review in the 5 star category. I got this used on Amazon. As soon as I got it I took off the u3 software (and formatted the drive): extremely easy and quick. I've been using this every single day for almost a year now with not a single problem. I transfer files between my Mac and a windows machine with no trouble at all.
I run a website server off this (xampplite with apache + mysql), so I can work on my sites from whichever computer I'm at. The data transfer rate is plenty fast for constant refreshing of a webpage which is stored on the flash drive; I've never felt bogged down. When I'm on windows, I even have the write-cache properties set for instant removal of the drive (which slows down in-out data, but lets you pull the flash drive out without clicking all those stupid little bubbles), and I've still never felt it was too slow.
Initially I worried that the drive would physically break because every time you want to use it you have to slide it in and out. But it's held up extremely well. If I upgrade, the first thing I'll look at will be at another sandisk cruzer micro.
Customer Review: So far so good Summary: 4 Stars
4GB for $[...]? This is a great price for a perfectly usable product. It's like having a rewritable data DVD. I keep all my family photos backed up to it for easy access (no, it's not my only backup - I also use Amazon's S3 for online storage)
First thing I did was download the U3 uninstaller from [...]- You can also prevent the U3 launcher from running by holding the Shift key while plugging the drive into your Windows PC. Thankfully, U3 doesn't work on OS X and Linux.
One thing I find though, it's surprisingly slow on Windows. I mainly use Macs and Linux, and I was able to transfer 3.5GB to it in 8 minutes using OS X (Leopard). But pretty much the same data took 8 minute to copy to my Windows PC (reading data is usually much faster than writing for flash drives) and 18 minutes to transfer the data back from my Windows PC.
To be honest, this surprised me, since I always found OS X's USB support to be inferior and slower than Windows. No, I didn't plug it into a USB1.1 port, since that would be much slower than I found, and it's not because the hard drive is any slower.
Customer Review: Terrible waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
I dont usually write these reviews negatively but I am this one because Sandisk USB drives are worthless crap unless you bought it for the U3 Launcher software on it. My major complaint with it is it is next to impossible to get the U3 Launcher crap off it so you will never have a clean drive to use as you please. I read someone on here say its easy to take it off. Yeah, well try it on my computer and tell me how easy it is when it keeps insisting that I have more than one U3 drive on the computer and I need to uninstall one. Since this is the only one and I have disabled every other drive or port sans my hard drive I think there is a problem. It shouldnt be so hard to remove something unless the manufacturer simply doesnt want you to remove it. I think its ridiculous Sandisk that you would ruin a good USB flash drive with such crap. I wish you could give zeros on here because I would, now I have to go and buy another drive to achieve what I want, a clean USB drive. If you care, take my advice and buy something else.
