Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ6-016G-A11

Customer Review: Incredibly, Amazingly, Unbelievably, Remarkably SLOW!
Summary: 2 Stars

Comparing transfer rates from my Cruzer Micro 4gb with my new 16gb, it's startling how much slower the latter is. It takes roughly 5 minutes to transfer 2 gigs to the 4gb drive, but a whopping 12 minutes to transfer the identical data to the 16gb drive! Here's another test: Moving 4.5gb from my hard drive to the Cruzer took 38 minutes! At that rate it'll take well over TWO HOURS to fill the 16gb (14.9gb formatted) drive! I mean, ARE YOU SERIOUS? You could easily burn a few DVDs in a fraction of the time.

Of course, you can't really pocket a hand full of DVDs and carry them around with you, and that's the point of these little drives. They are small and portable. I'll be merciful and give the 16gb 2 stars because it's itty-bitty and has the retractable USB plug, but I'm seriously pissed that it's stupidly slow. Unless you have all the time in the world, stick with a couple of the 4gb models and AVOID the 16gb model like the plague.

Customer Review: Incredibly annoying
Summary: 1 Stars

I have used a Cruzer Titanium 4 GB drive for several years. Once you learn to de-crapify it of the U3 stuff, it's a fine memory stick.

I expected the same basic functionality in the 16 GB unit. I was wrong.

De-crapifying if of the U3 nonsense is simple enough.

What I didn't expect was a *%$#(* flashing light in my peripheral vision during the entire time I use the drive. I bought it to use with my laptop on business trips. It flashes, fades, pulses, and generally annoys the bejesus out of me.

The LED adds ZERO value and in fact is a huge distraction and negative. I have no idea what the fool engineer who programmed the LED was thinking, or why his managers didn't rip out this nonsense before shipping the first prototype.

I'm going to paint the thing black. I will also look for any brand but
SanDisk when I next buy a USB memory stick. This thing is for the birds.

Customer Review: What happened to the price scaling /capacity rise?
Summary: 4 Stars

This is actually a review of the changing economics of pen drives, as I am quite happy with my San Disks (and my Kingston Travelers, for that matter) EXCEPT for the problem of price - up through the 8GB models the introduction price and the basic discount stayed the same (1GB to 2GB,2GB to 4GB, 4GB to 8GB) for app. 7 months, then began falling to the point where, over a period of app. 2.5 years you could get 2s for $6-8, 4's for 10-12, 8's for 15-17 BUT the 16's have never reached the equivalent - after over a year - and the 32's have not gone past the first drop range for them. I tend to assume that the functional loss of two big box stores is related to this - but I have already switched to the admittedly larger, but way more storage capable especially for the price WD Passports(320 has 290GB storage - at $80) - though even the drop in price range on them has not been as swift as before.

Customer Review: Sleek design, excellent performance, best value on Amazon
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the third time I have purchased one of these. This time it was a gift for a friend.

The SanDisk Cruzer is, for many reasons, currently the best flash drive you can get for the price.
It has a nice, sleek design with a retractable USB connector. The Cruzer is also very compact and can be easily attached to your keychain.

The 16 GB of disk space is more than enough for most flash drive uses.

Like all Flash drives, it uses a FAT32 file system, which means it cannot hold files that are larger than 4GB.
However, this can be overcome by using WinRAR to split up the file.

Pros: nice design, compact, convenient, reliable, great performance, includes keyring and extra features, best value

Cons: [none]

In conclusion, this is an absolute 5-star product. *****

Customer Review: Very Satified! So far so good...
Summary: 4 Stars

I give this 4 out of 5 stars because of the case this usb flash drive is wearing: it doesn't look as secure as it could be, but the unit definitely works and is very affordable, I can go around and carry lots of data from one place to another with no issues. I recommend that if you want to load files of more than 4GB of memory, you should format the usb flash drive to NTFS first, otherwise, you won't be able to copy these kind of files. Just like every usb drive out there, it comes with FAT32 filesystem by default, which is ok since you can connect it whether it's a Mac computer or a Linux box or through Microsoft Windows and it will be properly detected. Please note that both Linux and Windows can read ntfs filesystem by default, not being the case with Mac OSX, since you need something like MacFUSE and/or NTFS-3G to be able to read the NTFS filesystem.
