Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk 8GB Memory Stick Pro DuoCustomer Review: Lots of room & lots of uses Summary: 5 Stars
Memory is always a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. Today's files and demands are increasing so it's best to stay ahead of the curve with all the room you'll need. I have a host of Sony products including a PSP, PS3 (did you forget many PS3's have digital card readers in them?), and a digital camera; all of which share this card, and I can have all the room I'll probably ever need with this one card between all my Sony devices. Naturally, I have other capacity cards, but having one larger capacity card makes it real easy to swap or share files between them all.
SanDisk is an OEM to many products available so you're getting top quality. Again, in my opinion, superior to even the Sony "branded" cards. Don't be tricked into seeing a Mark2 or Ultra II card thinking a little more money must mean it's better; it's just a wee bit faster when writing the files and not necessarily any faster when reading them, however the device itself you're using must support that feature if applicable.
If you're the typical digital camera or video game user, this card will be more than you'll need in terms of capacity so you won't have to worry about running to a PC and backing up the files constantly. If you're a hardcore professional camera user where milliseconds between shots matter, then you might want to look at the faster access cards instead. Otherwise, save yourself the money and grab this card (even the 2GB or 4GB are plenty sufficient too) and pile on the digital images/music/videos!
Customer Review: Worthless. Summary: 1 Stars
I've always been a fan of Sandisk. Their products are great.
But this one? Stay away. I got this for use with my PSP, and the read/write speed is just ABYSMAL.
I haven't tried it on a camcorder, maybe it'd be fine for images, but I think it'd be just as crappy for use with video.
Now I'm pretty sure it wasn't my equipment's fault (PSP, card reader, etc.), as I have many other memory sticks (from both Sandisk and Sony), and while I expected this one to score around 20Mb/s (read), this one scored under 4Mb/s, which is unacceptable for large files. I emailed Sandisk about this and they told me that those memory sticks do not come with a "guaranteed read/write speed", which probably means that THIS is their actual speed.
Then they proceeded telling about trying the memory stick on different computers and card readers, conduct speed tests, and send them the screenshots and crap like that... Right...
I went to the store where I bought it from, and I exchanged it for another one of the same model, because I thought my stick was defective or something. But no. Same thing with the second one.
Who knows. Maybe the whole batch was defective, but Sandisk never mentioned anything like that on their emails.
At any rate, I strongly suggest you stay away from this. You'll probably be better with the "gaming" editions of Sandisk's memory sticks (the colorful ones that are semi-transparent), or Sony's high speed ones.
Customer Review: Great for PSP Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this product for my PSP. Read some reviews which said product read/write speed is slow. I just transfered over 1GB of data from my PS3 to the PSP and it was reasonably quick. Played games stored in my memory stick and did not notice any difference in loading times, fairly quick even. Unless you are the type of person who notices every second that passes by then get the higher end one for peace of mind, but for me this works great.
By the way, I can confirm product is authentic, I was able to register my product with Sandisk. I initially hesitated to purchase this product from Amazon after seeing a review which says product was fake, the review did not indicate who was the seller, note that there are several sellers of this same product. Emailed Amazon about my concerns on fake products and they responded promptly and put my concerns to rest. Chose a seller who seems to be with Amazon for a while and purchased the product from them. Seller is Digital Media Source. Quite satisfied with my purchase.
Customer Review: Great product for great price, especially for psp. Summary: 5 Stars
Down to the point, since many will look at reviews to see if they should get one. Ordered on a sunday, got it on a thursday. Comes vacuumed package with proof of purchase/receipt. Actual SanDisk packaged memory stick pro duo. 8gb stick in that light blue/violet color. Put it in your psp and and play games, music or videos.
So with unnecessary comments out the way, it is cheap and a great product for the price, so why buy a expensive sony. I mean 8gb for the price they are selling, and SanDisk is a awesome brand!
You if you really want to take a look at what it looks like then best buy is selling the exact one I have.
[...]
That link goes to the exact one i was given, except i got the enviro-friendly packaging.
Conclusion, if you have a psp and need more memory space for cheap, get the F@#$ing card.
Customer Review: incredible--yet true !!! Summary: 5 Stars
It's nothing short of incredible that this SanDisk memory stick, which is so slender and so tiny, actually stores as much as eight gigabytes of photos or movies for my digital camera! It can store music as well. Talk about progress!
Make sure that you install the memory stick the right way; I was trying to insert it into my digital camera but it just wouldn't go completely into the slot. Whoops! My fault--it was supposed to be installed with the other side facing up.
In addition, SanDisk gives you a five year (limited) warranty; that's a plus. SanDisk has both a toll-free number and a website for customer support.
I highly recommend this eight gigabyte memory stick by SanDisk. It should last you a very long time and it's well made--let's hear it for technology!
