Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk 4 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo Flash Memory Card SDMSPD-4096-A11

Customer Review: Great product...until it stopped working (plus possible solution to restore photos)
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this with my new Sony Cybershot after hearing SanDisk was a reliable brand and seeing these were MUCH cheaper than the ones made by Sony.

For a month and a half this memory stick worked great and had no problems with it taking it on my various summer trips. Then one day when I was touring Boston (having already taken a few pictures successfully that day), I turn on my camera and suddenly see it blink "Reinsert memory stick". I do that, remove the camera battery, etc to no avail. I get home, plug it into my memory stick reader and it tells me my disk needs to be formatted. I was a little hesitant to do this since I was afraid this would wipe ALL my photos for good so I googled around.

I ran into a program called Photorescue (http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/v3/index.htm) which claimed it could recover photos off a corrupted stick. The program itself costs $29 but you are allowed to download a free demo which will give you a thumbnail preview of all the photos it can recover. If you are satisfied with the results, you can then buy a product key off their website to get the full quality images stored on your computer hard drive. For me the program was able to restore all my photos including one video I took with my camera.

I am very thankful Photorescue came to my rescue (pun intended) but I'm at a loss how this problem happened. I am not sure if the memory stick is faulty or if my camera somehow messed it up. Hopefully this may help someone out in the future if they find their priceless photos seemingly lost forever. Either way I will definitely be backing up my photos on a nightly basis now!

Customer Review: Very reliable preformance and data
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros: SanDisk brand so really reliable, Very stable.

Cons: More expensive than other major Pro Duo brand like Lexar, Made in China. Slow compare to Lexar Platinum II

I have two 4GB Pro Duo card and this one is really reliable. I use it mainly for my PSP and sometimes for file transfer from my Vaio notebook. Comparing the two, SanDisk and Lexar, I notice that the Lexar is slightly faster on data write and read. I was surprised at this because my Lexar was half of what my SanDisk was originally worth (the price that I got it for). Overall I think that SanDisk is too large of a company now and they are slowly becoming like most other large company who only thinks of profits. Obviously their product is now overpriced compared to other company. They use to be a good company that offer great product at great price. Their product is still good, but it seems like they are charging premium on that now. Go for the other guys brand that is also stable.

Note: My Lexar is Made in Korea as oppose to made in China.

Customer Review: Increase your capacity
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo to use on my Sony DCR-DVD305 1MP DVD Handycam Camcorder with 12x Optical Zoom for still images from my camcorder and to use on my Sony Cybershot DSCW100 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3 x Optical Zoom. This card will hold up to approximately 1300 photos, depending on the size and quality of the digital image. Why spend more money for the "brand" name when this card does everything that "branded" card does for less. Please be aware that this item does not come with the adapter to read the card in an SD card reader. Even though the adapter is not included, this is a great price for this item, luckily for me I have the adapter that was included with my 1GB card that my camera came with.

Customer Review: great price, great storage.

I use this for my PSP. I also like that if I wanted to, I could take it out and stick it in my phone, I haven't though cause... well I dont really need to haha. (I have a sony ericson)

I can keep tons of movies, or anime on here, TONS, like, more then I could ever conceivably watch in one sitting, thats pretty great. I can also keep tons of music on here, but I dont use it for that, I have a 30g ipod so I dont really need to do that hehe.

Sandisk has a reputation for being good media, and this price is fantastic.

I like having enough room to know that I'm never going to run out, its pretty shweet! hehe.

I highly recommend this ^^ especially if ya wanna stuff your PSP with stuff.

Customer Review: 4GB Memory Duo card works great with the Sony Ericsson W810i
Summary: 5 Stars

Even though I read in some web sites that this phone will not operate with a Memory Duo Chip greater than 2GB, I read here that some user had no problems. My w810i (Cingular) worked well with this 4GB card. I am getting 3.82GB of usable space!
Two things:
1) Make sure you have the latest firmware on your phone, available from the Sony Ericsson's web site. They have a down-loadable program which will guide you through all the steps to accomplish this.
2) I formatted my new 4GB card on my Sony desktop, which has a Memory Stick reader (you'll need the adapter which comes with the new card). Just to be sure, I started by copying to the new card all the files in the old card which came with the phone, and done!
