Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk 2 GB Cruzer Titanium ( SDCZ7-2048-A10, Retail Package)Customer Review: Top of the game Summary: 5 Stars
SanDisk's sliding connector is definitely the best around. After four months of abuse, the connector is rock stable and shows no sign of fragility. The casing is only very slightly scratched despite being mixed together with keys, spare change, and an occassional pocket knife. It's simply the most durable thumb drive I'm come across.
I'm not sure what the U3 scandal is about. I use TweakUI to disable autorun on all devices. And I'm a disk image junkie (Acronis is my first choice now that Symantec has corrupted all things good.) So although U3 support software may have been installed on my system early on, it is not on my system now nor will it be in the forseeable future. In other words, I don't see why U3 would be a show stopper. I certainly don't agree with assigning the drive just one star in protest. It's easy enough to circumnavigate the issue altogether.
Great device. I wish more usb mini devices would adopt the same retracting connector. The tooth paste caps are worthless.
Customer Review: Rugged and Convenient Summary: 4 Stars
This is the second Cruzer Titanium I have owned. The first one was from the previous generation, and it lasted for three good years before the casing fell apart one day. Although the actual flash drive was still usable, and I was able to salvage all the data that was on it.
So it was a no-brainer to buy another Cruzer Titanium to replace its older brother. What I like the most about the Curzer Titanium is that it doesn't have a cap, meaning there's none to misplace, and it can conveniently be carried on a keychain. As far as reliability is concerned, it is so far the best I have used.
I didn't care much for U3 software, and as others have noted it can be misidentified as spyware on some systems. So, I had it removed. The removal software is available on SanDisk's website, and it took about ten seconds to run.
After that is was smooth sailing and quick transfer speeds all the way. If my previous experience is any indication, I expect this one to last for years without a hitch.
Customer Review: U3 and domains Summary: 4 Stars
Keep in mind that if you work on a secure domain AND on your wide open home computer, you'll have issues with U3.
I lock down our domain users, and when U3 tries to install itself, we get some funky and inconsistent problems. It's gotten to the point where I've asked people to either have U3 removed or just use a different drive for data transfers.
Keep in mind that when you're buying it, you're getting U3 (which may or may not suck; I withhold my opinion), but you might not be able to use it in an environment such as mine.
As far as the physical drive goes...I have had a 1GB version of this drive fail, but it was promptly replaced. I've used these since the 512MB model, and the durability is unquestionable.
The only problem I've ever had (Beyond u3) is when you push it into a tight fitting USB slot and end up causing the physical interface to not lock tight any more. That's kind of a bummer.
Overall, I don't think I'd buy anything else, right now.
Customer Review: Be careful Summary: 2 Stars
My recent purchase of the 2GB Titanium Cruzer was a disappointment. Everything worked fine until I tried using the U3 SanDisk software to safely remove the Flash Drive from the USB port. I then, received endless error messages that it was not safe to remove the flash drive. I also was unable to remove the flash drive using the Windows removal option. So, I finally, contacted SanDisk Tech Support only to spend an hour going through the tech's written protocols and consulting with her supervisor to no avail. I was then told to go hire a computer tech to solve my computer problems, along with a euphemistic "Have a nice day." Well, instead of paying for a computer tech, I'm returning the SanDisk 2GB for a flash drive that is still compatible with Windows XP. The truth is as several other reviewers of the SanDisk 4GB Flash Drive have pointed out, problems with SanDisk's U3 embedded software and OS/Window XP lack of compatibility and that's the fault of SanDisk's U3 design.
Customer Review: Great, but consider investing in the 4GB version Summary: 4 Stars
I got the item because I liked the idea of being able to run software without the need to haul a Laptop around all the time. I have to say that it really is as great as it sounds.
However, I'd like to add two qualifications to that. First, if had to buy a similar item again, I'd choose at least 4GB. 2 GB sounds like a lot, but if you want to install several programs (Browser, E-Mail Client, Office Applications, IM, etc.) AND store your personal files on the device you might find yourself running out of storage space faster than expected.
Second, on many public machines the software may not run because (a) a different operating system is in place (e.g. Sun) or (b) and actually more irritating some administrators of Windows PCs make it impossible to use the U3 system, which also includes access to your files if you enable password protection. So just because the computers where you would like to use the device run Windows doesn't mean you'll actually be able to.
