Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Pro Flight Yoke with Three-Lever Throttle (PZ44)

Customer Review: Patience and Programming
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke with Three-Lever Throttle (PZ44) and almost regretted my purchase after reading so many bad reviews. But after one month with it, I'm very happy with my purchase.

The trick to using this product in Microsoft Flight Simulator X is to remove all of the joystick assignments in the controls' settings. I recommend deleting ALL of the joystick assignments (to include normal and slew modes) for all controller types (both the yoke and mouse).

The only joystick assignment I kept was for the 'View (Pan)' command so I could use the hat switch (the round thumb switch located on top of the yoke's left grip) to look around.

I programmed the blue and red throttle axes using the 'Control Axes' section to control my 'Propeller' and 'Mixture' settings. The 'Aileron', 'Elevator' and 'Throttle' commands were already programmed so I didn't have to worry about them.

All-in-all, when I finally got over the excitement of using my yoke and throttle quadrant and took the time to program them, they worked without a hitch.

Customer Review: a good product that could have been great.

Bought the saitek pro flight yoke with throttles and rudder pedals. Yoke and rudder pedals worked great right out of the box, ( I highly recommend them )I ran into a problem with the throttle that took away much of the initial fun. While the throttle itself worked fine, the prop and mixture controls by default control things other than the prop and mixture, the prop control moves the rudder! The instructions casually mention that with FLT sim 2004, this is the default setting, and gives a not very clear discription of how to set them to their correct functions, not as easy as setting a buttons function. Given the popularity of Flight simulator 2004, you would think by now saitek would have done a better job of programing to eliminate this problem, or at least done a better job of explaining the fix.
dont know if this is a problem with the new x version or not, but with 2004 the throttle is not plug and play.Saitek Pro Flight Yoke with Three-Lever Throttle (PZ44)

Customer Review: Good yoke.. but with problems
Summary: 3 Stars

Saitek has created a very sleek, ergonomic design with the Pro Flight Yoke.. it looks, feels and handle like a very high-end yoke.

But it has its problems..namely the random, un-commanded key-press issue.

I'm on my second yoke (both from Amazon) and still I am plagued with the random key-presses. Saitek advises to keep returning the unit until you get a good unit! While that may work as a short-term solution, I think that they should be more honest and admit it is a much wider-spread problem than they indicate on their forum. I fear that a re-engineering of the circuitry is the only solution to the pronlem!

I guess I'll, once again, have to return it to Amazon and wait for a replacement - hoping that "third time's the charm!"

My belief is that the problems stem from the throttle unit and not so much from the yoke.. but that's just a guess.

Regardless, once Saitek works out the bugs, this will be a MUST HAVE piece of hardware for any sim enthusiast!

Customer Review: Phantom Button Presses Fixed, Great Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I bought and installed my Saitek yoke, the same thing happened; Annoying! Engine cuts, view changes/shifts, gear cycles, you name it. GRRRRR! I did the troubleshooting and RMA from Saitek, etc. etc. and received a new yoke post-haste. Installed it and the CD-ROM, no change. This time, I was ready to rip out my Marine Corps-style hair, until...I gave something a try: I uninstalled the CD-ROM software after learning that it was not needed for the yoke to work; It's only for profiling the yoke's 3-mode option for different aircraft. Once I did that, perfection! FS life's good. I went in, changed sensitivities and null zones and away we went. Now I fly everything from French CriCris to Cessna 172s to Q400s and B-24s. I love this yoke! I've since bought a rudder pedal setup and just got a second throttle quadrant, the latter of which is definitely defective, so it's going back. Saitek's help and support is second-to-none and I wholeheartedly recommend the yoke...just don't install the CD-ROM software.

Customer Review: Two Units with phantom button pushes
Summary: 1 Stars

First unit exhibited phantom button selections and was unusable. The Saitek web site was not helpful, and I was told to return unit for replacement by thier tech rep.
Return and replacement by Amazon went very smoothly. Good job there.
Second Unit had similar problems as well as x and y axis signal spikes that made control impossible. Have returned second unit for refund.
If you go to Saitek site as I did and try to move into forums, I was unable to get to the "good stuff" until I registered on the forum. So a casual look reveals no complaints; and a more determined investigation shows very few favorable users and a bunch of disgruntled users world wide.
One very troubling comment included photos of the interior of the yoke itself. Poor workmanship was in high evidence.
The yoke felt much better than the CH yoke, and I liked the position of the controls; but it didn't work. Hopefully, Saitek will get the quality control problems solved and this thing will become usable.
