Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Pro Flight Yoke with Three-Lever Throttle (PZ44)

Customer Review: OK for Games, NOT for smooth control.
Summary: 2 Stars

I apologize in advance for the long winded review, I can never keep it short and simple:

Pros:
- Nice button layout, low profile, feels solid, integrated timer

Cons:
- Big, clunky detents right dead center of the pitch and roll travel.
- "Precision Bearing" not really precision at all. In fact, it's very misleading. Read on.

Ok, so I bought this to replace my CH Products yoke system that is now 5 years old. I hated the plastic yoke shaft and the fact that it required lubrication all the time. I saw the Saitek with the stainless shaft and "precision bearings" and thought it would be the answer. WRONG!! The "precision bearing" is nothing more than a teflon FRICTION BEARING on which the metal shaft rides through the housing. Friction = jerky movements no matter how you shine it up. And metal on teflon is actually WORSE than plastic on plastic for fine, smooth control. For example, while trying to hold the nose of the aircraft up as I set it down on the runway, I was bobbing like a kayak on the open ocean. And there were visible "stutter" marks in the light grease on the yoke proving that it wasn't my poor flying.

And the big detents at the center of travel are like driving across a ditch; you just can't make smooth rolls or pitch changes across the center of the yoke travel. Once you get in the detent "rut" it takes a bit of effort to get out, which causes and oscillation on the other side. And since you have no real fine control, it takes a few seconds to recover. So the combination of those two things were definitely enough for me to order up a return.

If you're just a gamer, you could probably learn to live with these issues. If you're like many real pilots who are looking for a cheap way to stay brushed up or are in training and are looking for an inexpensive way to practice approaches and maneuvers, better have another look at the other options out there. I went back to my "crappy" old CH yoke with a new level of appreciation.

Customer Review: Using throttle quadrant with a laptop
Summary: 3 Stars

I have purchased the Simulator X, Saitek Yoke, Throttle quadrant and rudder pedals. Everything works fine once you get to he know how to assign the functions to correct buttons, except the throttle quadrant that comes with a desktop mouse output instead of USB, like the other controls.

My laptop has no port for a regular mouse input, and when i added an adapter, the computer did not register the control at all. The tech support is all automated, and the only way to get in touch with them is via email.

Customer Review: This is great
Summary: 5 Stars

I love it, I love it, I love it....I have to give this a A+. It is great, Much better the CH products (trust me i know). It is durable and realistic. I want get another Quadrant.

This works great on X-plane...And on mac. I am a mac user and have no problems.

I highly recommend this.

Customer Review: Better than CH Yoke
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this to replace my aging CH Yoke. I find it to be far superior in both feel and accuracy. Separating the throttle is a nice touch (I bought a second one for my twin props.) My experience In FSX so far has been excellent. There are no phantom key presses that I kept hearing about. The only thing I really miss from my CH Yoke is the mechanical trim which is the only reason I'm not giving this item 5 stars.

Customer Review: Super fast shipping. Super Great item!
Summary: 5 Stars

Ordered on the 16th. Arrived on the 18th via Free Super Saver Shipping. Can't beat that!

Great great item!

Pros:
80,000 times more realistic than using the keyboard. Way more fun. Just call me "Ace Rimmer". :)

Cons:
80,000 times more realistic than using the keyboard. Way more fustrating. Better call me "Crash Corrigan". :(

Sucks without having the rudder pedals too. I have to rudder with one of the throttle levers.
