Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek PH09 Pro Flight HeadsetCustomer Review: Quality vs small issues Summary: 3 Stars
Saitek has 2 classifications to my standards: products of great quality, and products that are "ok".
I've been enjoying flight sim since 2004. I "pilot" for 2 online virtual airlines flying the Cessna C-404 (too small for me!) up to simply some cool airliners.
So why not buy the radio stack, switch panel, X52 Pro, and so on. Than there's the Saitek headset.
If you have an average sized head and wear glasses, might want to take something for the headache cause this model causes the head to squash. There is no room if you wear glasses. So comfortability I give 2 stars. The ear pads, and head padding are great.
Pretty good sound quality- no complaints there.
The mike...this needs reengineering cause the adjustability is limited, very much so. I think Saitek is backwards with their entire concept of the mike and its adjustability.
The mike is quite sensitive..when ATC comments on my dog barking when he's in the other room, yea the mike works for sure.
So planning a "flight around the world"..go for it, but remember that your face might be squashed if you wear glasses. The fake plastic that looks like rubber on the earphones made me loose 5 lbs in sweat the 1st flight I used it...there's no breathability!
Simulated "realism" hardware comes with fake looking trash that works as is the case with Saiteks' headset.
I compare this headset to the David Clarks we use on the fire dept, overall I'd say Saitek s' headset is in need of ethier a price reduction, or simply put a total overhaul of this product.
Compared to the rest of my Pro Flight desktop cockpit (which I completely enjoy to the fullest)-the headset, umm maybe Saitek planned on ripping off the worlds flight simmers with this particular product.
Customer Review: Not very good for gaming Summary: 2 Stars
I've not tried these with MS flight sim. But, with several combat sims I have, this product has HORRIBLE sound.
Negatives:
These are way too tight. I wear glasses and within 15 minutes, I can feel parts of the skin near my ears getting numb.
I'm well over 40. So, my hearing ain't what it used to be. TOO MUCH BASE! It hurts my ears and I can't distinguish sounds with lower base (higher pitch sounds). It's too difficult to discern other sounds that aren't loud...then, when loud, hurts your ears.
Mic boom is difficult to adjust properly at higher angles for smaller heads. It's range of movement is fine at lower angles, but as you raise it, you're afraid to bend or break it.
Postives:
The volume control is nice. It's very responsive and provides plenty of volume when you need it.
The mic is very sensitive. I had to reduce the mic input when using mic boost inside windows as it was picking up sounds from across the house (and that was through a closed door!)
Nice mute button feature on the front of the mic. If you use voice on all the time, this is nice because you can mut it at the touch of the front of the mic.
Over all, due to the lack of comfort and the inability to distinguish between sounds, I can't rate this more than a 2. I wish I could rate it a 1.5 because that's how bad I don't like it. At the price I bought it for ($99) it was a waste of money for me.
Customer Review: Great Headset!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am an avid flight simmer and these are a great set of "David Clark" like headphones. They are very comfortable once you get them properly adjusted I have worn them for 5+ hours at a time. They do make a pretty tight seal to your head and around your ears so I can see what the one guys was saying about wearing glasses and having issues. The volume adjustment on the side is a big plus!!
I thought I would add to this review after owning them a year. The only real issue I have encountered is that the ear cushions could be better. Either they have become harder or my ears more sensitive because after long periods of use they start to hurt. I think they really wanted them to be just like the real thing becasue they make such a good seal around your ear they block out external noise especially in the high end. I can never hear my wife at all with these on!!
Customer Review: SPOT ON! Summary: 5 Stars
The Saitek PH09 Pro Flight Headset is about as close to the real thing as you will find! It has a quality build and if placed next to a real flight headset of the same design, you would be hard pressed to tell them apart. Audio wise it is excellent & the fact that you can "hear" your own voice feedback through the earphones as you speak is a real plus. (Many headsets do not do this very well.) Another great feature is a handy volume control on the left earpod. What can I say? I enjoyed this product so much I bought a set for a very good but particular flight sim buddy of mine. Don't hesitiate to buy this item if you want the look and feel of a real flight headset.
Customer Review: Saitek PH09 Headset Summary: 5 Stars
This headset is very realistic in appearance and feel. The band is a little short a might not fit people with a larger head and is a little tight. A slight bend to the band made all the difference. I can wear this headset for long periods with no discomfort. They are lighter than they look but fit and feel like the real thing. If you are looking to simulate real these do the trick. The construction is very good and should last for a long time. The mic is very good and picks up sound from across the room.
