Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of StarTech.com 24-Inch SATA to Right Angle SATA Serial ATA Cable (SATA24RA1)Customer Review: Great little cable for tight places Summary: 5 Stars
I built my own machine (like I've done a few times over now) and had gotten what I felt was a great case at the time. It's a ThermalTake with nice big 120mm fans so everything runs quiet. The problem? The HD rack is oriented perpendicular to the front grate. Usually, you expect HDs to be oriented so the short edge faces front/back and the longer axis follows the long axis of the case. This case rotated that 90 degrees. This led to me having to essentially squeeze the SATA cables against the case door. Luckily the cables don't have to actually be folded (which of course would ruin them). The power cables attached to my PSU (also a ThermalTake but not included with the case) happen to be oriented right so they fit without much problem.
I'd thought about how great it would be to have an angled SATA cable but didn't really think they existed. Then, one day, on a whim, I searched and found these suckers. I got one (I've got three HDs) to try it out and it worked like a charm. Swapped it out booted up and everything was golden. I just got the two additional ones I recently ordered. Planning on installing them when I get some downtime and finally have a case door that isn't bowed by the HD rack. And, 2ft is more than enough cable for most standard cases. I can't vouch for specialized cases or BTX cases (mine's ATX). And, even if your HD's are oriented the "right" way, depending on your setup, you might want to use these so your cables flow better in your case.
Description of StarTech.com 24-Inch SATA to Right Angle SATA Serial ATA Cable (SATA24RA1)This right angled SATA cable features a standard (straight) female Serial ATA connector as well as a right-angled (female) SATA connector, providing a simple 24in connection to a Serial ATA drive even if space near the drive's SATA port is limited. Once the right-angled SATA connector has been inserted into the drive's SATA data port, the shaft of the cable is seated flush with the rear panel of the drive, eliminating the clutter of excess cable at the connection point - an ideal solution for small or micro form factor computer cases. The right angled SATA cable features a thin, narrow construction that helps to improve airflow within the computer case; the cable also features a rugged, yet flexible design that makes it easy to make the SATA connection as needed, and is backed by StarTech.com's Lifetime Warranty. As an alternative, StarTech.com also offers a 24in Left Angle SATA cable (SATA24LA1), which provides the same simple installation as this right angled SATA cable, but allows the cable to connected to the SATA drive from the opposite direction.
