I tend to over-research items I buy and had my concerns about this power adapter given some of the reviews I had read. However, on our recent trip to Europe, it worked wonderfully - we charged iPhones, camera batteries and my shaver with it and had no issues. It is inexpensive compared to a number of alternatives and does have a good design with a cord vs. the unit itself plugging into the wall. The only concern we had was whether or not it would arrive in time for our trip - sure enough, it arrived the day before.Customer Review: Worked fine and not too bulky

If you are going to Europe and want a step-down converter, this will do the trick. I used on my trip to Spain. It's not as big as others.
I used it to charge my camera & iPhone and it worked great.
My girlfriend also used it for her hair straightener and that worked fine as well. Other girls on my trip used a simple adapter and ended up frying their straighteners and/or burning their hair.
So ladies, make sure you buy a converter and not a simple adapter! :)

I purchased this item mainly after I got frustrated with 45W/50W converters dying out in a couple of weeks. But this one is really built very well and still going strong after a month. My wife used hr CHI 1 inch hair iron (35W) and it handled it without any fuss or heat at all. The 50W converters would just get hot like crazy in 2 minutes that she never could use her iron. But with the SIMRAN no such problems. I'm quite happy with the purchase. The only downside is that it is a bit heavy.Customer Review: Look At The Weight

I too failed to note the 2 pounds of weight and was shocked when the box arrived feeling like I'd ordered a small brick. I have not used it. I did buy it after my smaller converter heated up like a toaster on a trip to Vietnam and often worried me. But, until I haul this...and that is the issue, will I haul this or not....on my back to some far off outpost or keep shopping.
You learn something all the time and checking the weight was one thing I overlooked.

have not used it so i dont know the quality yet but it is a transformer so it is heavy. Its my fault for not thinking about the weight but think about the weight and if you really need a transformer. many electronics work on 110-240 so you dont need a transformer(look at the charging plug or plate rating of electronic). if i thought about the weight I would not have purchased this. this does not mean that this is not a good transformer for the price if you need one.
