Bought this with plenty of time to spare for the wife's trip to France. Once she got there, it never worked. Even had a tech savvy husband in her travel group check it out, just to be sure. By the time she got it home (it's fairly bulky and heavy), it was too late to get a full refund on it, so I had to eat shipping both ways, as well as a 20% "restocking" fee. There's no way I know of to test this without special equipment, until you get it overseas. Kinda sucks to get charged for something that was defective out of the box, especially when it'd been lugged half way around the globe and back and completely failed. You'd think they might test before it leaves the factory.Customer Review: Simple, works well, costly shipping.

This is a simple step down transformer. It does it's job.
It has a three prong plug output but note IT IS NOT GROUNDED!
This is rarely a problem for most users, but for safety's sake you need to be aware of this.
The box says this unit is fused. Not wanting to get overseas and blow a fuse with no replacment, I opened the unit to see what kind of fuse to buy some replacments. No fuse, unless it's well hidden which makes it a bad design. I took one star for this, and the unclear ground plug.
Final word, shipping was a much as the unit cost for me to get to in California. Still a worth while unit but be warned.

Before you buy this converter, please recognize that there are many different types of plugs/outlets. The plug on this converter is type C; which is in many countries in Europe and elsewhere. Type C plugs can also be used in type L outlets. Depending on the destination country, you may or may not be able to use this plug in the available outlets. As another reviewer mentioned, there is a safety in some plugs that require a grounding prong. C plugs do not require grounds, this is why this converter does not have it. So please recognize that this is a specific plug and not a design flaw; check the plug types of your destination country!!Customer Review: No issues.

I bought this item right before I was going abroad to Spain.
First off, shipping was fast. No problems there.
The actual item was relatively cheap compared to similar watt converters. It also has a nice LED light to show whether your item is being protected or not. Which, may not seem necessary, but if you're using a laptop or electronic without a converter built in, this could lead to a large amount of money is repairs, etc.
I've been using this item almost daily for a month and haven't yet had an issue, I will post again when this item saves the day or comes to rest. Hope this helps.

I have recently moved to europe. I bought two of these Simran converters. The first one lasted about two weeks before it went up in smoke (it was hooked to an applicance which used 130 watts)...during the time it worked it put off a ton of heat compaired to the other converters I own. The other one lasted lasted 2 days...again..smoke...not really what I was looking for. I have one from Brookstone, which is only rated up to 85 watts that handles more than this Simran converter. I see others have noted that it is a good product; I did not have that experience with the two I owned, which are now off to the dumpster.
