I always hated NIMH batteries because they lose their charge so fast. I have 20 year old NiCad rechargeables that work better. However, neither type stands up the new "low self-discarging" (LSD) NIMH batteries that Eneloop has popularized. I installed Eneloops in both my Wii Remote and Balance Board. They have held their charge over six months now and have worked flawlessly throughout this time. According the Wii Remote I still have 3 of 4 dots of power left.
I also have two AAA Eneloops that I installed into a Harmony Remote Control. Because the remote takes four batteries I also installed two new alkaline batteries. The alkalines have already wore out and need replacement yet the Eneloops are still going strong.
If you need batteries, just get these and you won't be disappointed. If you don't already own a battery recharger, the so-called Sanyo 277265 Eneloop Power Pack with Battery Charger, 8 AA & 2 AAA Batteries Plus 4 C & 4 D Size Adapter (CostCo Kit #2) is a good place to start.

I'd never purchased rechargeable batteries before, since they typically had a poor reputation. My belief was that the batteries did not hold a charge for long. So why bother?
Well, the Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries are not what you'd expect based on the reputation of these earlier models. They come charged, right out of the package. I recently bought a Tivoli Songbook and decided to use rechargeable batteries to conserve and avoid throwing away standard batteries every few weeks. The Sanyo Eneloop batteries lasted for about 2 weeks with their initial charge (i.e., out of the package). They quickly recharged when the radio was plugged in, taking about 4 hours (to fully recharge). This and the subsequent charges have lasted for about 2 to 3 weeks each time, with average usage of the radio (about 3 hours per day).
Overall, I'm very pleased with these batteries. In addition to being environmentally safe, these batteries will save me a significant amount of money over time, by not having to buy (and then dispose of) 6 alkaline batteries with each replacement.

I get the product in the mail and they are supposed to be pre-charged. So, I put them on a new battery tester by Green Solutions that I bought on Amazon. There is a range of what is considered a "Good" charge on the tester by maybe 4 or 5 bars (I'm not in front of it right now).
So, I put the batteries in the charger and they read at the very low end of "Good" so I figured they just weren't fully charged because I had some regular AA batteries (not rechargeable) that I tested and they maxed out the "Good" bars.
Next, I charge the Eneloops using a slow charge with a nice Powerex charger that I bought on here as well.
I tested them again and they read the same !!
Now, to be honest I haven't used them yet so I don't have any idea how long they will last. I can only assume that they will not last as long as a standard AA since they can't even be charged up to what a normal AA battery reads.
So, it would appear that these batteries don't have the same juice as a regular AA battery, very disappointing for how hyped these batteries were. Bummer....
Customer Review: what a relief! finally rechargeable batteries that last!

After having to recharge or swap out my rechargeable batteries for my kid's toys, my remotes, my clocks, and especially my pc's mouse way too often (almost daily with my mouse it seemed) I finally got my hands on these eneloops. And they're going to replace all my other rechargeables!
The toughest test of charge/use time is my mouse: the eneloops have kept it going for daily 8-12 hour use for almost a week and a half so far. That far exceeds the length of use I was able to get out of non-eneloop 2700 mAh rechargeables that I was using just prior to these.
I should say that I'm not the best rechargeable battery user: I had a habit of recharging the rechageables BEFORE putting them into STORAGE rather than use. I've read that that's the best way to shorten the life of a rechargeable battery - dumb me. So, anyway, my enthusiasm for the eneloop's longevity while in use may be a bit skewed by my potentially prematurely killing my previous rech. batts but, still, just based on non-metered personal use, I find these eneloops to be very strong out of the box.

I originally bought the eneloop "starter pack" at Costco in the winter of 2008. It included the charger, some AAA and some AA batteries, as well as the adapters needed to make the AAs fit in C and D cell battery compartments. I have rarely used the AAAs, but have converted almost all of my AA battery gadgetry over to the eneloops, which is why I needed to purchase some more. I find that they do hold a charge for a lot longer than most rechargeable batteries. They come charged, so there is no initial wait time to begin using them, which I like. The only minor issue I have with them is that they tend to discharge a little more quickly than conventional one time use batteries when they are used in items with a digital readout. I have several small temperature sensors and weather stations around my property. I find that when the eneloops are nearing the end of their reserve, my readouts get a bit dodgy, and the temperature or time will be way off. Not a terrible problem, as long as you know to expect it, and have another set of batteries ready to go.
