Customer Review: No one has an excuse not to use rechargeable batteries anymore!! Go green, Go Sanyo Eneloops!
Summary: 5 Stars

these are amazing batteries. I've tried many in the past, and been disappointed just as many times. the old energizer's were terrible, and NEVER held a charge for more than a couple of days.

the new technology in the eneloops is fantastic. a friend who uses a power hungry gps turned me on to this brand, and i am just as impressed or even more so than he said i would be. i use them in everything, including a garmin gps that really eats batteries - these seem just as good as fresh duracells to me. and, from my short use history - now 3 months - i can only assume the reports that the long-term shelf life is excellent are accurate. every time i put a set in they show up as full on the battery meter.

i've never taken the time to fill out a review before - but this product was worth it! buy these and never regret it - tell your friends! they are as good in performance as a fresh duracell/energizer from my experience, and there is just no excuse anymore for killing the environment with disposable batteries anymore. go green, go eneloop. i replaced my entire battery quiver with these and i am so happy i did. maybe a little expensive initially, but WAY CHEAPER in the long run. buy these now, you'll never regret it. i love mine!!!

Customer Review: What the item description doesn't tell you
Summary: 4 Stars

The batteries I received work just fine. I haven't had them long enough to tell whether they live up to the claims, but I figure >1200 people can't be wrong. :-) However, there are two things I found out shortly after starting to use them:

1. The white Eneloop batteries are an older product. There is now a newer version out which can take more recharge cycles and costs about the same (on Amazon). Usually the product pages indicate when there is an updated replacement, but not here.

2. You can charge them in most NiMH chargers, BUT, per the Sanyo Web site for Eneloop batteries, there are two caveats: first, you're not supposed to use a rapid charger; and second, USING A NON-SANYO CHARGER WILL VOID THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY! C'mon, Amazon and Sanyo, this is must-know information for anyone purchasing the batteries. Why isn't it mentioned anywhere on the product pages??? It should be explicitly stated on the packaging, too, instead of just referencing the Web site. Not cool. They claim that battery life may be shortened by using other chargers. Even if this is just marketing-speak, the warranty is still void.

These gotchas belong in the product descriptions for all Eneloop battery items on Amazon.

Customer Review: Amazon ships open-box merchandise without first disclosing (acceptable resolution)
Summary: 1 Stars

These batteries arrived with the plastic already cut open. Repack and open electronics are ALWAYS a bad idea when not advertised as such--even batteries--because there's no way to tell how they were used or possibly abused. Now I have to go through the bother of returning them and asking for a replacement. This is NOT the kind of seller behavior that encourages repeat business.

Added in edit: Amazon is being most gracious in accepting the return, "First, please allow me to express my sincere apologies for any frustration that has been caused. It is certainly not our intention for our customers to have anything but a pleasant experience at our store. Please be assured that we are here to make things easier for you. We will take each and every action to prevent you from bearing any loss. I've placed a new order for the item. There's no charge for this replacement. Here are the details of the new order: [replacement to be sent with free one day shipping; I have 30 days to return original order under their shipping label]"

My original thought was that I would never again order a similar item through Amazon, but their acknowledgment of their error allows me to wipe the slate clean.

Customer Review: Best Rechargeables I have ever bought.
Summary: 5 Stars

These batteries are fantastic! I used them for my photography, flashlights, wireless, mouse, solar yard lights, calculator, wireless recorder, microscope, metal detector, and head lamp. They last longer than any other rechargeable that I have ever bought, in durability and charge time.

I bought some new "Solar" rechargeable batteries back in April 2010 for some solar lights with batteries that stopped charging. When I installed those new "Solar" Rechargeable batteries, I also installed some eneloop batteries in some of the lamps. Which I had bought in February of 2010 and had already used extensively in my photography. It is March 2011 and the only batteries still working and holding a charge in my solar Lamps are the eneloop batteries.

Its been at least 6 months since I put the eneloop in my wireless mouse and it is still running strong with at least 4+ hours of computer work every day. So after all I use them for I will no ever use another battery if I can help it. I am about to purchase enough to install in the rest of my solar lamps. I highly recommend these for use in anything, from solar lamps to high demand photography flashes. been working great for me for years.

Customer Review: General remarks
Summary: 4 Stars

I would like to make a little comment regarding rechargeable batteries in general - seems to me lots of people build wrong expectations on these batteries, and then get frustrated with the obtained results. Due to their technology, the rechargeable batteries are NOT 100% substitute of regular batteries. While regular battery provides about 1.6 - 1.75 V fresh, all the way down to about 1.2 discharged, the rechargeable one provides 1.4 fully charged down to 0.9 - 1.0 discharged. Usually the equipment that uses the batteries will compute the charge of the batteries based on the voltage measured. This is why lots of cameras will give low battery sign almost immediately after rechargeable is inserted - not because the battery is actually discharged, but because it produces lower voltage.

Another point of misunderstanding is the rechargeable battery capacity. The capacity of a battery is standardized as the current the battery can sustain over 10 hours of discharge. Thus 2000 mAh battery is rated 200 mA x 10 hours. If one tries to discharge this battery with 2 A, it will survive much less then an hour. Here is a link to site that provides more details: [...]
