Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sanyo Eneloop AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries - 8 PackCustomer Review: Eneloop batteries hold charge very well. Summary: 5 Stars
I first tried Eneloop batteries in a Canon IS-S1 camera (4 AAs). I would frequently grab the camera for an unexpected picture opportunity and find the regular NiMH batteries had lost their power - or most of it. These Eneloop batteries hold their charge well, so this no longer happens. I now use them in the IS-S1 and in a Canon 570IS (2 AAs). Both cameras work perfectly, and they remain charged and ready for quick pick up use.
I also use Eneloops in a cordless keyboard and mouse where other NiMH AAs lost their charge too quickly. I had gone back to alkaline batteries to avoid changing batteries so often. No more problem.
I keep a handheld CB radio in the car (6 AAs) for infrequent use while traveling -- mostly to find the reason for unexpected traffic stoppage on interstate highways. Because older rechargeables lose charge too quickly, I have needed alkalines. I bought the 8-pack Eneloop batteries to keep in the car. I will only need to recharge them every few months.
Amazon's 8-pack price is great and these Eneloop AAs are excellent batteries. They are the only type I use now for anything that uses AA batteries. I haven't had any of them long enough to judge how long they will continue to accept recharging, but expect them to outlast the 2-3 years of older NiMH because of fewer charging cycles.
Customer Review: Best rechargeables on the market Summary: 5 Stars
I have a 5 MP digital camera that only uses 2 AA batteries and was getting very finicky about the Energizer and Rayovac rechargeable NiMH batteries I supplied it with. I like to charge up my batteries and keep a spare set in my camera case for backup. However, I was continuously putting in the fresh batteries and the camera wouldn't even power on. It would say "Change batteries". It was baffling b/c batteries that were totally charged were not working any more. The only thing I could figure is that because NiMH AA batteries are only 1.2 Volts instead of the standard 1.5, anything less than a full charge would not supply the camera with a high enough voltage to power on. Then I started reading about batteries and discovered that these things lose charge surprisingly fast when sitting in storage. I bought four Eneloop batteries and tried them. I have been amazed at the performance with my digital camera. With the previous brands of NiMH, I could maybe get 120 pictures from the camera. Now I can go almost double that time. Don't ask me why. Part of that reason is probably due to the fact that I don't use my camera for significant amounts of time between shoots. So the eneloops hold that charge MUCH better. Anyway, foot the extra cost of these batteries and order plenty of extras. You'll be glad you did when using high-drain devices!
Customer Review: Great Batteries for Photographer Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not a scientist, and I don't know what the different ratings that people give in relation to rechargeable batteries mean. I do know, however, that I really like Eneloop rechargeable batteries. I am a photographer, and I use eneloops in my hotshoe Speedlight flash on my camera. Flash photography is notorious for burning through batteries really quickly. That notoriety is really deserved; Flashes do burn through batteries. I use four eneloops in my flash, however, and I really don't have to worry about them going dead on me throughout a shoot. I have shot entire weddings on one charge, without a problem. I have no complaints about them at all. I don't see what the worry is with rechargeable batteries losing charge over time. Sure, don't put them with your food storage and expect to power your flashlights in ten years with them (as they may not hold a charge that long) but if you're using rechargeable batteries in a flash, Xbox controller, or other electronic device that gets used a lot, they're perfect.
The only thing I think would be nice, is if they had some way to differentiate between each battery. I mark mine in sets with stars, plus-signs, circles, and so on, so I can keep them in sets to make sure I don't mix up which ones are charged, and which ones need charged. Besides that, I don't have any complaints.
Customer Review: Best batteries I own Summary: 5 Stars
These batteries hold a charge MUCH longer than standard NIMH batteries. Rechargeable NIMH batteries are a must for devices like digital cameras, and can be an economical alternative for other uses. Unfortunately, the standard NIMH type can be a nuisance when used for some other applications because they tend to "bleed off" their charge in a relatively short time even if the power demand is low. Even that back-up set of batteries in the camera bag may prove to be useless if they haven't been charged recently. There is often a temptation to use throw-away Alkaline batteries in devices such as wall clocks or electronic thermostats, because of the need for frequent battery swapping when using typical re-chargeables.
I have found that these Eneloop AA batteries pretty much eliminate these problems. They last a LOT longer in a clock, side-burn trimmer, etc. Other NIMH batteries may take more of a charge (2700mAh for example), but I find that I get more USABLE power with these 2000mAh Eneloop batteries because they don't lose their charge between uses. The spare set that I dropped into my camera bag 3 months ago will be ready to go if I need them this weekend.
I'm recommending these to friends and family, and I'll probably never buy another set of the standard NIMH batteries in the AA or AAA size.
Customer Review: Best batteries - Period! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using rechargeable batteries for probably 10 years or more. About 4 years ago I discovered Eneloop and have not bought a different brand since. I probably own over 60 of these batteries. I use them for my tv/stereo remotes, XBOX, XBOX 360 and Nintendo WII controllers, Digital cameras, kids electronic games, my wireless keyboard and mouse and just about anything else I regularly use and consumes batteries. I always have a few spare already charged ready to replace some that just died. They hold there charges forever (well long enough that in some of the lesser used devices I can forget there there - I am always wondering where they are all at. They last a long time even in the demanding console controllers and digital cameras. This is all I buy. The only important thing is training everyone in the house to NEVER throw out the white batteries. But now that they are used in everything in my house it's much easier and everyone knows to just go put them in the charger and grab the previously charged ones. I bought some of the bundled packs so I have like 4 chargers and a bunch of C and D cell converters. They even work fine in these devices, but obviously don't last nearly as long - But who cares they charge plenty fast - so I use them in Lanterns and flashlights that consume big D cell batteries.
