Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sanyo Eneloop AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries - 4 Pack

Customer Review: Works well in external camera flash
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife and I own a small photography business, and when we got our new external flash about nine months ago, we had to get some AA batteries to power it. The flash is a Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash for Canon Digital SLR Cameras; it is capable of a pretty small recycling time after each photo, so we were looking for something that could keep up.

I usually get rechargeable battery packs when I can, but the flash required regular AAs, and when I looked around at the options, I saw a lot of good things said about the Eneloop line. Decided to give it a shot and ordered eight (four in the flash, four standby).

We have done many small shoots and one large wedding, and four of these AA batteries have taken several hundred photos in one day without having to be replaced. They do hold a charge fairly well, though these are the first rechargeable AA batteries I've bought in many years, so I don't have much to which I could compare it. It keeps up well with the flash recycling time.

I'm planning on getting another four to power a Wii Balance Board (NiMH is the only type of rechargeable battery mentioned in the manual). Highly recommended.

Customer Review: OK, but didn't perform too well in my demanding Canon S2 Camera
Summary: 4 Stars

Like so many other people, my canon S2 has began acting strage with rechargeable batteries. It worked great for several years, taking hundreds of shots on a set of rechargeables but in the past year or so has started to shut down with a "replace batteries" warning when the rechargeables are still fully charged.

I changed over to disposable engergizer Lithium AA's which restored performance to hundereds, if not thousands of shots and they also have a very fast recorvery time when using the flash.

Now these are my first set of eneloop, the capacity is marginal at 2000mAh considering what's available today but for the $10 or $12 I paid for the set of $ I think it's reasonable. These eneloop did not help the condition of my camera, it still reports early discharge status and on top of this, the recovery time when using the flash is veeerrrry slow.

I gave the batteries to my daughter to use in her fingernail polish dry and they work fine in that application.

I can't speak much for longevity as I've only had them for a few weeks but I've heard very good things about eneloop quality. I am going to try the annsman 2800's for my camera, I have a friend with a Canon S1 and he said they perform amazing, at a price...

Customer Review: Very Pleased!

There are several very scientific reviews about these NIMH rechargeable batteries, so I will just add my experience with them. I have several items that take [AA-AAA] batteries that I use on a pretty regular basis- I have always been a supporter of the concept of rechargeable batteries, but in the past they have always been terrible. I believe past types used Ni-Cad storage cells, and as anyone who has used these kinds of batteries over the years knows, they do not last long, they take a long time to charge, and they die completely far too soon.
All of these issues are gone with this type (NIMH) of battery- they last a long, long time, they hold their charge for a year or so, and they can be partially recharged without causing issues. Honestly, I see no reason not to use these. They will save you a great deal of money, and are also much better for the environment, since one of these is like buying 800+ alkaline batteries! In the devices I have used these in (xbox controllers, keyboard, mouse and other small electronics) I see them to be just as effective and long lasting as alkaline batteries, and I don't see myself using non-rechargeable batteries ever again. A must buy, for yourself, and for the sake of reducing waste too!

Customer Review: best alternative for AA batteries at this time
Summary: 5 Stars

Hopefully I'll never buy alkaline batteries again. This is the second time I've bought these eneloop batteries and as advertised there was about 85 percent capacity on the batteries after opening the packaging and putting them in my light. Eneloops last almost as long as new alkalines but are rechargeable and hold their charge as opposed to original Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. I also bought Hybrio batteries (which are similar to eneloop but from a different manufacturer) from another retailer but they were dead after I took them out of the packaging and I could not recharge them with the charger that was included. That doesn't mean that other Hybrios or similar slow-discharge rechargeable batteries aren't as good as or better than eneloops, but I feel comfortable with eneloos right now. The only thing I don't like about eneloops is that they take so long to recharge (I think 4 hours for 4 eneloops). The Europeans have passed laws that encourage electronics manufacturers to build battery-powered electronics that can be plugged directly into the wall outlets like cell phones so that they can recharge their batteries. Maybe we Americans should do the same so that the Europeans don't beat our pants off.

Customer Review: No more jumping through hoops with my eneloops
Summary: 5 Stars

So, I got me this Sony Cybershot H5 camera, and was on the verge of bankruptcy as I tried to satisfy its two battery per day habit.

I had a couple of another brand of rechargeable battery, but found that I was only getting about 75 pictures per charge, while regular batteries gave me about 200 before giving up the ghost.

Enter the eneloop, which is not only a starkly professional looking battery, but gives me somewhere in the vicinity of 300 photographs on a single charge.

One thing though - when I put them in the camera, the reading showed ¾ charge after about 10 photographs, but maintained that reading for a much longer time than I expected.

Buying this pack of four allows me to keep two in the camera and two on standby on photo shoots, which is more than enough for an amateur photo-take-outerer like myself, plus the savings in battery purchases allows for refreshments afterwards.

I can't say how good they are for any other application, because no one is going to be laying a finger on my eneloops.

Highly recommended for digital cameras.
