Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sanyo Eneloop AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries - 4 PackCustomer Review: The PAINLESS Battery Summary: 5 Stars
I have a digital camera that I use about one week-end a month. I always needed to recharge the four AA batteries the night before using the camera, because after a month in storage, the batteries had lost most of their charge. I would take fifty or sixty photos, and get the "low battery" warning.
The Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries solved the problem. I charge them up. A month later, I can pick up my camera and take 300 or 350 photos without first charging the batteries. The Mah rating of the Eneloops is lower than the traditional rechargeable batteries I had been using, yet the number of photos I am able to get after a fresh charge with the Eneloops matches the traditional batteries after they have been freshly charged. For digital cameras that use AA batteries, a set of Eneloop batteries is likely to last for twice as many photos as with "throw away" AA batteries. Some Canon cameras get as few as 100 photos with "throw away" batteries, but should get more than 200 photos per charge with the Eneloop batteries.
Sanyo has made using rechargeable AA batteries painless...given that a set of batteries is likely to last more than 300 or 400 charging cycles, I can get many years of use out of just four batteries. The battery cost for my digital camera is now less than $2 per year...enabling me to take thousands of photos each year at a battery cost of much less than a penny per photo.
The Sanyo Eneloop is so far superior to traditional rechargeable batteries that it is a puzzle why anyone would consider buying the traditional batteries.
Customer Review: Depleted Charge On New Batteries Summary: 2 Stars
The first time I purchased from Adorama, I bought the eneloop batteries (4) with the charger. Because they were new and because this was my first time buying rechargeable batteries, I did not know what to expect from these batteries. I love having rechargeable batteries and I love how fast the eneloop charger works and I love the sleek, simple design. However, we buy batteries for their life and these did not seem to last very long. I had to replace the batteries too often in my mouse, so I soon decided that maybe there was a fluke with my batteries, and I ordered 4 more from the same company. Besides, I didn't want to be left without as I am also using them in in two other electronics.
For my second purchase, I was a little bit sharper: I numbered each battery with a Sharpie and when I put it, fresh from the package, supposedly fully charged, into my magic mouse on my Mac, the Mac said the battery was only 66% charged! This is not cool. I haven't had either set of batteries long enough for their charge to wear down that fast, so I have to assume the first set were also depleted when I purchased them. If it were not for the Mac, I wouldn't know my new batteries were depleted! I am wondering how old these batteries are - how long Adoram has had them sitting on the shelf. The reviews on eneloop's are so good, that I have to assume there's a problem on Adorama's end.
Consequently, I am very unhappy and unsure of where to purchase these batteries next time. I want to give them one more chance.
Customer Review: White Lightning! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one product I'm truly enthused about. Bought it with the La Crosse Technology BC-900 AlphaPower Battery Charger around Christmas 2007 and have used them for six months. I use these batteries for my kids' cameras that each take two batteries. They can leave them alone for a month (and have) and when they pick up the camera, they still have full charge. Further, the backup batteries are ready to go when they need them. I use them much more often to take Real Estate shoots with my Canon Speedlite 380 EX Flash. The flash recycles quick even though I use a Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce for the Canon 380EX Flash. When the flash fires with this cover, it generally fires full power and has to recycle. I can take a picture, move QUICKLY and it's ready to fire when I get there. Batteries last for two or three shoots then I just swap out and continue to shoot.
One thing I'm not sure has been mentioned is that these batteries don't LOOK like regular batteries. With younger children, I'm sure a dozen or so 'missing' NiMH batteries ended up in the Trash when the kids swapped them for Alkalines. Now I just tell them NOT to throw away the WHITE batteries! Alkalines? Those are for remote controls ONLY now.
Customer Review: Better NiMh Battery for sure Summary: 5 Stars
GE/SANYO eneloop 4 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries
I like NiMh batteries a lot. The only problem is that they will lose their capacity after a few months and this made they not suitable for my certain applications. When I learn that Sanyo has this new type of batteries, I bought a few from Amazon due to their reasonable prices. After it arrived on Nov. 2007, I notice that its production date is 09-2006. So it is about 14 month old. Its voltage is 1.29 volts, not bad for a battery stored for over a year. Its remaining capacity is shown to be 2060mAh as measured by the LaCrosse Technologies' battery charger/tester. [edited by the reviewer: Somehow I didn't read the LaCrosse tester capacity results right. I used my own (home made) data acquisition tester tested again today, the capacity is about 1300 mAh. Not bad after storing for 14 months. - 11/19/2007] I then charged the battery to full and measured its capacity. It is 2170 mAh. Looks to me the batteries I received exceed the flash and stored capacities claimed by Sanyo and better than other reviewers' results. The only weakness is they cannot match the capacity of the top ones of the conventional NiMh batteries but this is not that bad and it is not so important for my applications.
If its long term performance is as good, I don't think I will buy regular NiMh again in the future.
Customer Review: Terrible, a few months later and can't even hold a charge for 24hours Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased these "low self discharge" batteries specifically to use in remote controls and wireless computer mice, as well as occasional use in a portable CD player. Unfortunately the product is not as advertised. The Sanyo Eneloop is by far the worst rechargeable battery product I've come across (having used Energizer and Sony branded batteries in the past).
Keep in mind my Eneloop batteries are not even 6 months old and ask if you want to deal with this:
-In my wireless computer mouse I'm finding a full charge no longer lasts even ONE DAY, that's right, in a computer mouse a pair of Eneloop AA batteries drains in perhaps 12 hours. Any other battery brand has lasted MONTHS in my wireless mouse.
-In our television remote controls the charges now only last a few days. The so called "low self discharge battery" drains itself within a couple days in a friggen REMOTE CONTROL. I've gone YEARS without having to replace batteries in a remote before.
So much for the so-called "low self discharge rate". I would chalk this failing up to a faulty batch, but I made the mistake of purchasing 2 different 4-packs (at different times), and the same symptoms are apparent in all 8 batteries. The first few charges were fine and lasted a reasonable amount of time. However after only a few recharge cycles these batteries are practically worthless relative to any other rechargeable battery product I've used in the past. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
