I have used Energizer rechargeable batteries for nearly 10 years. I bought them specifically for my Olympus point-and-shoot digital camera (4 AA). After several long events, I realized they just would not hold up to regular/long use. I ended up with three sets that I would charge and carry around...
Ok, 10 years later and I'm now using a DSLR. I recently purchased a flash unit that required 4 AA batteries. I had seen several reviews of these Sanyo Eneloop batteries and figured that I would give them a try. These are the best rechargeable batteries I have ever owned or worked with.
The time to get a full charge is comparable with others. The hours of use before needing a charge is excellent! One issue with using rechargeable batteries in a flash unit is the recycle time before you can flash again, but it is not an issue with the Sanyo Eneloop! I think maybe one second, but definitely less than two seconds between shots.
I already bought a four pack of the AAAs and will be replacing all my old Energizers with these soon.

What can I say? These eneloops are awesome! I got tired of buying AA batteries for my Nikon Speedlights and the recycle times of the speedlights near the end of the alkaline battery life was really long.. so I never even finished using the battery life of the normal alkaline AA's that I used to use... I would throw them out and use fresh ones.. Then I heard about these and thought I would give them a chance.. well it's been almost a year and I have to say that these are the best batteries I ever used in anything! They have replaced ALL of my AA battery needs.. from my wireless mouse to my entertainment system remotes! And of course the reason I got them for my Nikon Speedlights! I have 2 SB-600's and 1 SB-800 and the lasting power of these are amazing! Even when the battery life gets low the recycle time of the flash is the same as a freshly charged set! Amazing!
But the thing I love most about these batteries is the fact that you can charge them and store them and they hold their charge until you're ready to use them.

I charge these batteries up at the same time, Then I place a pair into my camera to use, and leave the other 2 in my camera carry case for when the first pair dies out. When that happens and I replace them with the other pair, that new pair is just as low on battery as the first pair, without any use! How does that happen? I thought these eneloop batteries were supposed to store the energy in them better than others and have a longer shelf life, yet they drain just as fast as if they were being used. I use my camera almost everyday for work taking pictures of properties. Its not much though, just 1-2 properties a day usually, most of the time its just snapping like 5 pictures of the exterior. After about a week of use, the batteries become low or die on me. Then I replace them with the other pair of eneloop batteries I keep with me in my camera case and they are low on battery too! I charge all 4 up at the same time fully! (when the green light stops blinking and turns solid) and this happens consistently over about 2 months.Customer Review: Haven't had to charge them yet.

I love the idea and the performance of these batteries. Whatever hybrid features they combined to get the long shelf life and the rechargeable NiMh is incredible. I have not had to charge these batteries yet. They came pre-charged and I have not not run them down yet. One of the biggest things I always hated about NiMh rechargeables was the fact that they always ran out of power while they were sitting idle, then whenever I wanted to use them, they were dead and I'd have to wait another several hours for them to charge. Incredible concept and well executed.
Update 04/23/08:
I've been using these batteries for several months now and I love them. They last a long time and they stay charged when I don't use them for awhile. I have an RC car that uses NiMh batteries and I wish they made these type of batteries for it. I highly recommend this charger and these batteries. I am about to buy more for my other battery using products and have recommended them to all of my friends.

I Own several different brands of AA, AAA NIMH rechargeables which I use for my photographic equiptments. I always have to charge them before I use them to make sure that they are ready. I accidentally bump into the Eneloop batteries while browsing on Amazon. After reading the specs of the battery, I got so excited as I've been waiting for a product like these. I first ordered a four pack and when it arrived I immediately check the charge of the batteries with my battery tester, and sure enough it still had a full charge. I bought another four with the charger
I also noticed that the charger indicator light would go off when the batteries are fully charge. My only regret is, I wish the charger can be used in countries using to 220V. I will load them on my Nikon SB-600 electronic flash on my next photo shoot and see how they compare with my other NIMH batteries. As of now I have the feeling that this will be my primary batteries. I will put in another review after I use them.
