Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sanyo Eneloop AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargable Batteries with Charger - 4 Pack

Customer Review: Good batteries but NO manufacturer support if they fail! (less than 2 months)
Summary: 2 Stars

This review is mainly to inform people of the complete lack of any customer service from Sanyo eneloop should you end up with a defective product after any return period is past with the retailer.

I have used AA and AA eneloops as well as an eneloop charger. I use them in my Canon S5 IS digital camera, canon EX 380 flash and various LED flashlights (as well as other products, wireless mouse etc..). They are the best AA & AAA NiMH batteries I have ever used, but one the AAA batteries quickly started to not fully charge and drain out too quickly (as compared to the other eneloops that was in the same pack.). It also will not keep its charge more than a couple weeks. I contacted eneloop several times over a period of several months, waiting plenty of time for them to respond. Well it has been about 2 months since the last contact and they still refuse to reply about the problem. I tested them in various items as well as with one of my Digital Multi-Meters.

It is a shame that a good product is combined with absolutely no manufacturer support at all! I wanted to order some of the newest eneloop batteries but now I am looking for a comparable alternative since I am not in the habit of spending money on a product in which its manufacturer will flat out ignore any issues with their product!

I would have given them higher stars than I did if a family member who I bought a set of AA's and charger for didn't end up with 2 batteries doing the same thing as mine and eneloop not responding to them either.

*All together thats a 19% fail rate that I have personally seen with eneloop batteries (3 of 16 batteries).*

Customer Review: I'm a believer

I purchased twelve Eneloop batteries and and a 4 cell charger for a trip to Belize. I used them in my Garmin GPS62S, my Fenix single cell 120 lumen headlamp and my Fenix HP20 230 lumen headlamp. The Fenix lights were used for a 2 1/2 hour caving trip. The Garmin to record my favorite locations and hikes.

My sister-in-law used the 120 lumen single cell light at the 48 lumen setting constantly during the hike and I used the HP20 4 cell light at the 51 lumen setting normally, and the 125 and 230 lumen settings to illuminate the trail for myself and the others, to flood light the cave and to help the autofocus on my camera. It was hot and humid and we were sweating and climbing and crawling through the cave. It was not the place to have a battery go dead on you. Both lights lasted the entire trip.

The two cells in my Garmin lasted almost the entire ten days we were in Belize. I forgot to turn the Garmin off a few times and I now have the waypoints I wanted and routes of my hikes as well as a couple of long drives. All I had to do was swap out the batteries in the Garmin with the spares I brought and recharge the two dead ones at the hotel.

all the batteries went from the packaging into my equipment and out into the field with no problems. I'm impressed. I'm a total gear head and I love these things. I'll be posting my pictures of our caving experience on Flikr thanks to these batteries.Sanyo Eneloop 8 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries

Customer Review: I popped open the charger it is definitely smart
Summary: 5 Stars

I did a lot of research on charger/battery kits as I wanted
to go completely (as far as practical) to NiMH rechargeable batteries.
I decided after reading many blogs and reviews that Sanyo was the way to go.
I use or will use NiMH for my consumer products and my electronic projects.
I'm a hardware hacker on the cheap so I try to get the best deal I can for my money. Anyway, I bought this kit because I was impressed by the quality of the batteries and the smart charger for about $25 bucks and free shipping.
I just got the kit and I was very pleased. I popped open the charger and
it is definitely intelligent. What drives the charger is a 4-bit micro controller interfaced with an analog chip and a lot of passive components. I also was impressed that the batteries were made in Japan.
I saw a video on how they were made - cool! I was also impressed that
there was a toll free number on the battery to arrange for recycling of the battery. I've always liked Sanyo products for their value to cost.
I had to mail order this as NO major store in the Minneapolis area stocked it (as far as my research went). Every store I went to or called
only carried Duracell or Energizer, or sometimes Rayovac NiMH.
I'm a little P.O.'d about how they dominate the big box stores.
Btw, If I HAD to buy rechargeable 'AA' NiMH batteries locally I would buy the Rayovac Hybrids. From their specs. they seem come closest to the Sanyo Enelopes.
Other than that Sanyo Rules (IMHO) when it comes to rechargeables.

Customer Review: Hands Down, the Best Rechargeable Batteries
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased these batteries because I was sick and tired of having my camera die every time I went to use it, and not being able to find batteries that hold a charge. A digital camera, which is the only thing I use these batteries for, is VERY demanding of batteries and takes a great deal of power to function. I researched the best rechargeable batteries for use in digital cameras, and this is what I was recommended to. Four batteries AND a charger for less than $20 is a GREAT deal, because in the stores four rechargeable batteries from a brand like Energizer or Duracell (both of which I have used and ceased to hold a charge after a few months of use) would cost at least $15.
I have owned these batteries for a little over a month, and so far I couldn't be more satisfied with their performance. The fact that they come pre-charged was a HUGE benefit, as they arrived the day before I took a two-week vacation. One set of the batteries (two of them) powered my digital camera for the entire vacation and so far I have only gone through both sets once and I have charged the second set once and am currently using them. In other words, I am on my third charge cycle in total, and thus far I have taken almost 1000 pictures with my camera. This is with significant use of the LCD screen on my camera, which uses much more battery power than powering the flash or the actual taking of the picture. Only time will tell how long these batteries will continue to hold such a significant charge, but at this point they have out-performed all of my expectations.

Customer Review: Worthless! Charger is crap!!
Summary: 3 Stars

Tried the 4 AA cells with the charger pack.
Found out that you can not recharge only one battery, so I waited for all to drain,
then put them in the charger and pluged it in.
The "ready charged" light came on, indicating that the cell where already fully charged.
So, I left it on anyway thinking maybe they were still charging even though the "charged"
light was on.
Wrong! I took the cells out of the charger and they were still dead.
Tried playing around with the charger but could not get it to work.

Another thing, this batteries died fairly quickly under the same conditions as regular batts.
In fact, the Energizers provide more power then these and last longer, though they are disposibles.

Tried different combinations of inserting the dead batteries, no luck!

Worse, you can NOT charge these cells on any other charger, so it's either "their" charger,
or your screwed!!

EDIT:
I nice person has taken the time to explain to me my error.
There are other chargers for these batteries, not just the one Sanyo sells.
I have also been told that my batteries were likely fine, I simply had a bad charger.
Since this comes as a
"package" deal, I have changed my rating based on new info plus the fact that the charger really IS a
piece of crap.
I ordered a Sony charger which has been recommended to me by a friendly and helpful fellow Amazonian :)
