Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sabrent SBT-UPPC USB to Parallel 6-Foot Printer Cable

Customer Review: Didn't work with a Brother HL 1440 Printer
Summary: 3 Stars

It was confusing going to the manufacturer's website to check for newer drivers, because they only list drivers for Windows, but none for Mac, but the product page here on Amazon says it is mac compatible.

Anyway, I hooked it up to my 2008 Macbook pro and Brother HL1440 printer (whose usb port had the middle pole broken off, hence my desire to try using the printer's parallel port rather than throw it out - especially since I have three cartridges hanging around). The lights flash in various permutations and the mac's print utility says a document prints, and then...nothing happens.

Well, I tried.

Customer Review: Mac to HP LaserJet 1100
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this cable to connect my Mac to an old HP LaserJet 1100 provided by my employer. The LaserJet 1100 has an uncommon printer cable connector on the printer end, so a USB-to-parallel male cable is not an option. This Sabrent USB-to-parallel female cable connects to the end of the printer cable that I previously connected to my dilapidated old PC's parallel port. When I plugged it into my Mac, which runs an updated copy of Mac OS 10.6 "Snow Leopard," it was automatically recognized and the driver selected. Using this cable was a completely painless process for me from start to finish and I couldn't be happier.

Customer Review: Works!
Summary: 5 Stars

Not much to say about this--I plugged it in and it worked, which is all I wanted. My LaserJet 6L is still working, so when I got a new Windows 7 machine with no parallel port I had to find some way to make it work. (I've bought other printers, but nothing is as reliable as the 6L.)

My only complaint is that sometimes the printer doesn't power off (there is no power button, it's controlled by the computer.) Not a big deal, since the fuser isn't on, just one small light. For months I've had no problems printing several different types of documents and some images--I highly recommend this cable.

Customer Review: works as advertised - then it broke as predicted
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for a 5+ year old HP LaserJet 5. Both a new HP laptop and a very old Compaq Presario automatically recognized and installed the printer in less than a minute. Both are running XP. Now we can easily switch the printer from the old desktop to the new laptop by unplugging the USB cable.

June 15 update - this cable worked about 30 days then stopped working. It's too late to return it to Amazon; Sabrent tech support doesn't answer an email inquiry. I replaced it with a $50 Belkin cable which works fine. It no longer deserves 5 stars, but Amazon won't let me change that.

Customer Review: Seems to work fine but it's not 6 feet
Summary: 3 Stars

'Bought this roughly one month ago for a Vista 64 bit system using a ten year old Lexmark color jet printer. It was simply plug & play & works just fine. I paid ~$15.00 which was a good price relative to other prices out there. The Amazon price as I write this is ~$3.00 cheaper which is fair given that the unit I received measured from head to toe is actually only 5 feet. So it might be worth asking if given the new lower price, it is now actually only 4 feet! 'Wasn't worth the hassle to return it but do take note especially if you need the advertised length.
