Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Roku SoundBridge M1000/M1001 Network Music System

Customer Review: After trying the competition, Roku was a breath of fresh air!
Summary: 5 Stars

My goal - very simple: stream select internet radio stations to my stereo unit in my bedroom.

Attempt #1: Linksys Wireless Music Bridge. I could fill up a page about how difficult that thing was to set up... and I'm an advanced wireless networker. 8 hours later, I returned it.

Feeling disgruntled about all DAR's, I finally purchased the M1000 after reading stellar reviews about it on zdnet.

This unit is amazing. I had it up and running, streaming music to my stereo in less than 15 minutes. I love the web-based interface to adjust settings, program internet radio stations, etc...

If i had to point out a couple of negative areas, I would say the unit is hard to read from a distance (you can increase font size, but in my opinion, it doesnt look as good), and the remote navigation is a little difficult at first. Even at its most dim setting, the unit is quite bright at night. But all of these things are easy to overlook when it comes to the easy setup, and fine performance of this unit.

Customer Review: Great Product, As advertised - and, easy setup
Summary: 5 Stars

Roku soundbridge is a great product. It works great and is fairly easy to set up.

My son and I set it up on Christmas day with little problem - in 15 minutes. We are both in non computer sales and are fairly good with computers but we are not IT professionals.

the only thing we had trouble with was the shareing our files on the computer side. The directions could have been a little clearer here - windows media connectk! And, you have to have your music-MP3s in my-docs and my-music - i did not so, i had to move them there so the soundbridge could find them.

setting up an account on radioroku.com is a great feature of this product too. by doing this you can control the soundbridge play and pause on your computer rather than the remote control. the internet radio stations are great also.

seriously folks, this thing is easy to set up and run - we luv it so much we have bought a second on for my son. He can not wait to get is as it is a pain to hook an ipod into his stereo system

Customer Review: Would not be without my 2 Roku's
Summary: 5 Stars

When the workhorse Sony CD jukebox died in 2006, I went looking for a PC-based solution and found the M1000. Enjoyed it so much at the main music system that I purchased a second for the Master BR that also feeds outdoor speakers. Server software of choice is WMP11 running on a small dedicated shuttle box, accessible via Remote Desktop from the main computer. I prefer this since it doesn't require my main computer and monitor to be on to listen to music.

Reports of network troubles are surprising. Neither Roku has any problem talking to a Linksys Wireless router (WRT54G) and the farthest unit is a good 50 feet and four walls away. At times, both run simultaneously.

The one drawback, as mentioned in other reviews, is the 2-line display. I would love to see a future version with a composite video out that could provide a scrolling display on a monitor - along with now playing info.

Except for needing an occasional reboot, they have worked flawlessly. Would not be without these two units!

Customer Review: Roku Soundbridge...will you marry me?
Summary: 5 Stars

The only reason that I am back on Amazon tonight is because I need another soundbridge. I LOVE this thing and even though it decided to give up on me tonight and go to the great wireless audio streaming device network in the sky (it just won't power on!), I am still going to order another one. The biggest problem with it breaking is that i will have to wait until the new one arrives.

I listen(ed) to this thing every night for just under a year and although the initial setup was pretty annoying and troublesome (it was a firmware issue and after i hard-wired it to my network and upgraded it, it was a breeze) it was worth the hassle.

Since I got this device I have had to configure a Squeezebox for someone and the Roku wins hands down (on style, quality, use and ease of configuration).

Bottom line is, if you want to stream your MP3's and listen to internet radio and you don't need the multi-room devices like the Sonos, you need one of these and you won't know how you lived without it.

Customer Review: Roku Rocks!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've seen other reviews where the Roku has become a paper weight and there's zero customer support. I have to admit my Roku sat around for 5 months because I forgot my admin password to the Linksys router at home (you need to access the Hex version of the password if your wifi is password protected). Once I decided I couldn't wait any more I dove into the problem, fixed the issue with the router and... couldn't connect. It turns out you have to make sure that your unit's software is updated.

Admittedly it wasn't a piece of cake to install (not all of it Roku's fault) but once you understand the process it is fairly simple.

The big bonus comes when you get it to work. Simply WOW!!!! What an amazing toy, which becomes a tool which turns into a necessity!!

The reason I wrote this is not so much to say how cool this is (it is, 5 stars all the way) but to openly wish for a rechargeable remote that would have a lighted display of the information on the Roku.
