The IS400 does a superb job of rendering a handful of ice cubes into enough shaved ice to fill a 12oz cup, which is exactly what this model is designed to do. However, I don't believe the IS400 is well designed to hold up over long periods of use. We make snow cones and iced drinks with it nightly. After hours of intermittant use during a party, a crack appeared in the blue bowl that holds the ice cubes which eventually radiated across the top, breaking it. We contacted Rival Customer Service (800-323-9519) to order a replacement part, and Rival instead sent, free of charge, a complete new unit. I genuinely appreciate Rival standing behind their product, but I'd prefer the IS400 be made a bit more sturdy. Expect the IS400 to do a great job making snow cones, but anticipate the probability that it'll break.Customer Review: All we can say is WOW!

This snow cone machine is FANTASTIC!
We had the old style carnival machine forever and it took half an hour to fill up the tray. This thing spits out ice like it's making a new ski slope! You can literally fill up your adult sized cup and have it syruped, cleaned, and ready to go in about 15 seconds if your syrup is standing by.
And the ice is good little chunks too, not those overly large bits that look like they should have come out of your refrigerator door.
All in all we only had one problem with it. The ice-holding container could have been a bit bigger, but I suppose it would have clogged more if it was as the ice re-froze inside.
Oh well. We're happy.

I wish that I could give this item less than 1 star. It worked well the first couple of times that used it. After that, it seemed to be hit or miss; sometimes it would work fine, others times it wouldn't work at all (although banging it on the kitchen counter seemed to work at times). I didn't even want to waste my time with exchanging this piece of crap for the same piece of crap so, after owning it for approximately one month, I tossed it. It has to be the worst appliance I have ever purchased. Don't bother wasting your time with this garbage.Customer Review: Fluffy Snow in Seconds!

This product is a great value for the money, fast, and easy to use. Our family has tried other home snow cone makers and NONE of them could begin to equal this one. It is simple to set up and makes a decent size snow cone in under 30 seconds!The ice just shoots out of the opening unbelievably quick directly into the cup. We recommend styrofoam cups because these keep the ice from melting quickly. Just open and invert the whole thing to drain/dry it until the next use. We would recommend this product highly and we are glad we found it on Amazon.com.Customer Review: Safe and fun!

This is a big hit with my kids! We've had it a couple of days and made numerous batches with it. The ice is a little chunky, not snowlike, using regular ice cubes from our automatic icemaker. The top is a bit hard to push down (to shave the ice) so our kids can't do it themselves. I see that as a good thing! Ours did not come with syrups but we ordered some directly from Rival. Beware - their service is very slow, don't order syrups with them if you need them right away; I think ours took several weeks to arrive.
