Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Recoton ADF1650 50/1600W Dual Wattage Travel ConverterCustomer Review: Worked one night (maybe) Summary: 1 StarsBought this for a trip to Ireland. There was an extra socket adapter outside the box, with no explanation. (It may be a straight-through, non-converted adapter for a low-voltage outlet found in some hotel bathrooms, that say "razors only", but without documentation I wasn't in the mood for experimenting.)
Used the converter one night on the 50W setting to recharge a camera battery. Everything looked OK when I set it up (tell-tale light on the battery charger showed it was charging), but the next morning the system dead (tell-tale was dark, usually green to show fully charged). Not sure if the battery ever really changed. The charger proved OK when I got back to US and the outlet was still alive (lamp worked), so the problem was in the converter.
Customer Review: Not a fan. Summary: 1 StarsDespite the many reviews stating the poor quality of the product I thought I'd give it a go based on the few reviews in its favor. I should have listened...and you should too. The converter is worthless, but if you're wanting to spend a bit more just for the adaptors go for it, but I'd look elsewhere. After merely turning on the electrical device the converted popped, smoked and was no longer effective...or rather, was NEVER affective.
Customer Review: Blown fuse Summary: 1 StarsI purchased this product for a trip to Germany. When I arrived I went to use it and it wouldn't work. I pulled it apart, which revealed a blown ACG style fuse. But its not just any fuse it s a super micro teeny tiny one. So now my small amount of personal time on a work trip was occupied by tracking down an electronics repair shop to get the fuse.
Otherwise the product is fine, once the fuse was replaced it worked as needed.
Thanks for weird story to tell everyone when I got back.
Customer Review: inconsistent but eventually worked in china Summary: 3 StarsThe adaptor worked fine for charging my laptop, but didn't purchase item for the adaptors as I have learned that hotels have adaptors for guests to use, but check first w/ your hotel to confirm. I purchased this item for the wattage converter to be able to use my hot iron in China. The first outlet I tried it on the converter did not work at all to heat up my hot iron and, it was not the outlet as the hairdryer provided in the room did work in the same outlet. I then tried it on another outlet in the room and same result - nothing, as in, the converter did not make any sound, did not even turn my hot iron on. I gave up thinking product was defective however on my 2nd day in China I found an outlet that was built into the desk in the hotel room, I gave it one last try and this time it did work, without any issues (i.e., converter getting too hot). Not sure what the issue was with the first 2 outlets but the product did work and maintained the high heat for my hot iron & I used it the week I was there w/o problems.
Customer Review: Dangerous Summary: 1 Starsadapter MELTED using proper instructions for euro type outlet. I threw it out, horrible product...could easily cause a fire.
