Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR RepeaterCustomer Review: Awesome technology. Great for what it is. Summary: 5 Stars
I was not excited to pay an additional $15 a month to have a cable box in our bedroom to watch TV. I was looking at Roku, WDtv, etc but really just wanted the live TV+DVR I was already paying for in my bedroom. After looking for a solution a few months I stumbled upon this gadget.
I was skeptical as to how well it would work but now I'm a believer. It was super easy to hook up and worked immediately. You do not need to be technically inclined to get it going. The signal and sound are great. Granted, we're in a small condo and the signal doesn't have to travel that far but I'm still impressed with the quality. It's not HD but I'll give that up to have no wires running through the house.
Another HUGE bonus is that if I want to play Xbox and my wife doesn't feel like watching me cuss and ignore her she can watch TV+DVR in the bedroom since the Xbox and DVR are hooked up to the same TV.
The system works with your DVR's remote from wherever you set up the receiver. We have a Logitech remote so it makes it even easier. I set up a 'Bedroom' option on the Logitech and one button turns on all the proper devices for bedroom television viewing.
Go'on 'en getcha one'a these.
Customer Review: Amazing Reception Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted to move my TV to the other side of the bedroom and not wanting to tear up my walls or have ugly visible wires stapled to the wall I started looking for alternatives. Best Buy advised me they used to offer a wireless transmitter but it wasn't very good. Then on Amazon I came across the RF Link and was impressed by the reviews so I decided to splash out.
The transmitter hooked up nicely to the TV and the receiver likewise into the cable box and it took longer to get it out of the box than it did to get it working (good job it's easy because the instructions are terrible).
The TV is in an armoir and the cable box is hidden away in a peice of furniture so there is no visible clutter. The reception is amazing, the remote for the cable works just great by pointing it at the reciever with a really fast response. Best of all microwaves, telephones and other assorted devices have no impact on the reception. I even moved the tv three rooms away for a test and it worked superbly.
All in all this is a cheap high quality method of having great quality wireless media around your home or office. Another reviewer calls it the best electronic gizmo ever, I can't argue with the description.
Customer Review: Works Well and Easy to Install - Highly Recommended! Summary: 5 Stars
The "RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater" solved the problem of getting video from our old VCR\DVD into a room that we couldn't run cables. The set contains everything needed, including a Transmitter unit, a Receiver unit, an IR "Mouse" (used to extend remote control signals), two sets of video\audio cables, and two power supplies.
We installed the transmitter and receiver in rooms about 40' apart, separated by three walls. Setup was very easy and literally took about 10 minutes start to finish. Here are my observations:
+ Video Quality: good, but we did have to change the "channel" used by the units, which is very easy to select by button on the top of the transmitter and receiver units (make sure they are both set the same)
+ Audio Quality: excellent
+ IR Repeater: works perfectly, just point the remote control for the video device at the Receiver and the IR signal will be sent to the video device (a VCR\DVD player in our case)
This worked exactly as I hoped it would and really saved me a good bit of time and expense over trying to run new cables in my 160 year old house.
Highly Recommended!
Customer Review: This is just what I was looking for - works great for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I was unable to get a cable line hook-up in the bedroom where I watch a little TV in the morning while getting ready for work. I tried a hi def antenna, but that did not work, too much interferrence and apartment rules would not let me put it outside, besides I missed CNN. I did not know these AV transmitters existed and somehow stumbled upon the information and researched them quite extensively before purchasing this unit on Amazon.com. It was very easy to hook up, and worked immediately, no fussing with the angle of the antennas. In fact the one in the bedroom is transmitting through a large mirror to the TV in the living room, through several walls. I have wireless internet and cordless phones and a cellphone. I am the only one living here so I cannot comment if more people were here using these devices would cause a problem with the RF-Link. But for me, the RF-Link was the perfect solution. I checked out the AngelTrax someone else mentioned in a review here. Do your homework and research first, and then you can decide which one is best for you. It does not appear AngelTrax is currently manufactured. I would rather buy a unit that is still currently manufactured than a discontinued unit.
Customer Review: This unit is defective and company rep won't replace it. Summary: 1 Stars
I have satellite TV and thus a receiver box with a standard RCA jack type output plus an S-video output. No hi def yet, but I have TV's in three locations and was paying for two receivers. With this unit hooked to the main unit, it broadcasts to a second television and even carries the stereo sound. Out of the box, cables included, set up time is minutes. You get a transmitter and a recever and an IR remote control repeater. I bought a second (extra) receiver for the third television. Works great, no interference from microwaves and other 2.4 mhz noise.
Unfortunately, the IR repeater does not work dependably.Sometimes it repeats commands perfectly and other times it won't respond at all. BEWARE THE DISTRIBUTOR WILL NOT REPLACE A DEFECTIVE UNIT. Several phone calls to the customer service will get you a run around of "try this, and then try that" to stall you. I know the transmitter unit is defective but the receivers are fine, but they will NOT send a replacement transmitter. They actually expected me to send all 3 pieces ($200 worth) back to the factory to "test" them. This means I would be without the units for God knows how long, if ever. I suggest another brand of equipment.
