Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR RepeaterCustomer Review: Very good purchase.. no need to invest in long wires or drill holes in the wall.. Summary: 5 Stars
I had ordered an X-10 Video Transmission system about a year ago, and it failed misserably masking my internet and throwing 'rolling lines' on the picture on the TV Screen. A gadget that runs on 2.4GHz frequency is just not compatible if you have too many units sharing that same frequency (internet, phone). I returned it within a day. I've been wanting to view my TV on a spot where there isn't a cable connection, and I've been hesistant to drill holes in multiple walls to get this working. I searched Amazon to find a 5.8GHz product that would perform the same function as an X-10, but just not on the same frequency as the internet. Came across this product. Priced at twice as much as the X-10, I wanted to read as many reviews as possible before making the decision.
I was stunned to find that I'm not the only one who has this exact same issue. I liked the reviews, and bought it! I did the Free Super Saving Shipment, which was to get me the RF-Link AVS-5811 in 9 business days, but my first surprise was that it came in 2 business days.. and the day before Christmas!! Then, I was able to hook this up literally in 5 minutes! It worked beautifully!! Wow!! What picture quality, and what ease of use!! Another surprise was how efficiently the IR Remote works!! You point your remote to the Video Receiver, and that throws the signal to the Video Sender and the IR Remote connected to it. Put the IR Remote 'mouse' in front of the Sattelite Receiver, and one can change the channel sitting two storeys and three rooms away!!
I definitely recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to drill holes in the wall, and isn't too excited about spending on long wires. The extra kick is you can take your TV anywhere (maybe outside on the Patio!) to watch the same Sattelite and Cable Channels one watches in the entertainment area!!
Customer Review: DON'T HESITATE TO BUY THESE FOR CHRISTMAS (Read On) Summary: 5 Stars
I literally just received these and set them up. I had been using the similar LeapFrog units for several years with no problem, 'til now. Unfortunately I live in a apartment building where several of my neighbors use 2.4ghz electronics. Since the LeapFrog units also use this frequency I was constantly moving and adjusting the units to get away from the signal interference. A few weeks ago it got to be too much. After researching other options I decided these would solve my problem. I admit I was apprehensive about buying these sight unseen (as I'm sure you are) but went for it anyways. Am I Glad I did. They are even better than the reviews I've read. The "transmitter" sits next to my tv in one room (the IR "eye" is talking to my Tivo (I think they call it the remote extender). The receiver is on top of my other tv in my bedroom. Although both units are approx 13ft apart line of sight there is a wall in between. NO PROBLEM, it works so well I forget the Tivo is in the other room. I'm actually using the units with the video antennas flat and still have AWESOME signal strength. The remote extender works so well I can bounce a signal (IR no less) off walls and the RF-Link will still "see" it. These are simply GREAT!! CAVEAT: Make sure you have them both on the same channel (I use 4 simply because it has a smaller light - You'll understand when you get them). When first set up I almost panicked because I had a video signal worse than rabbit ears. Looked at both units and in one of those DUH moments put both of them on Ch4. Now all is good... soon could be for you also. Don't wait just buy 'em. Sorry for the long review but I just had to let others like myself who couldn't decide, YES! BUY THEM FOR YOURSELF, BUY THEM FOR SOMEONE ELSE. You will not be disappointed!!! ...and NO I don't work for the company I just love their product!
Customer Review: Never Been So Impressed Summary: 5 Stars
Like many others who have reviewed this product, I was skeptical when I bought it. But shortly after hooking it up, I find that I have never been so impressed with a gadget I have bought.
The problem I wanted to solve was that I have a Directv DVR receiver in the basement, and I wanted to watch the shows I recorded on it in my bedroom upstairs (I live in a townhouse). I did not want to purchase another DVR receiver since I like having my recorded shows on one unit rather than on two.
After research I chose this product. The customer ratings are what sold me. Shipping was fast and setup was a breeze - just plug in the rca plug on either end of each unit, plug it in and switch it on! I pointed my basement unit's antenna up about 45 degrees to get it in the general direction of the TV upstairs and adjusted the upstairs unit to point in the general direction of the downstairs one. It worked immediately. Several reviews have noted signal interruption when someone walks in the path of the signal. There is no signal interruption for me because both tvs are on the same wall of the house. What is amazing to me is the distance at which it is working with no problem. through 2 floors and a wall! Even better, the remote control IR to RF to IR works fine from that distance as well. Some remote commands have not been picked up on the first push, but after some adjusting with the mouse, I have had no failure that have been constant.
A couple of notes. Video quality is not HD, its more like VHS quality. But what do you expect with a wireless setup? Plus my upstairs tv is not the latest technology available. Also, this costs about as much as another DVR unit would be, but I opted for this for the convenience of having all my shows in one box not two.
Customer Review: Surprisingly Effective Summary: 5 Stars
I just rented a condo and Comcast came to set up cable TV. I was amazed to learn that there was no active lead in the living room for TV and internet. In fact, not only was the master bedroom the only room with an available lead/outlet, but there was no way a run could be made to the living room given the construction style of this multi unit building.
After spending a lot of time having other wiring specialists evaluate the situation and reach the same conclusion, I searched the internet for "wireless" solutions. Several were revealed ranging from several hundred dollars each to $35. I decided to go with the RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater even though older reviews pointed out issues (I hoped that over time the company may have solved them).
It only took 10 minutes to set it up, connect everything and get it going. The living room TV (42 inch LG HD LCD) came to life with a great picture and excellent sound. There was no interference issues from my 802.11N Apple Extreme router and wireless internet system nor from my wireless phone system. I am transmitting over 50 feet through several walls including bathroom walls and mirrors/tile. I can easily use my remote in the living room to change channels on the cable box in the bedroom and set volume. All functions work very well. The system has been working now for several weeks with no heat issues or failures at all as shown in some other older reviews. I am very impressed with the ease of use and overall quality. This little system saved my day!
Of course, there could always be more features (something other than RCA analog output) and it could look a little better in terms of industrial design, but it works well.
Customer Review: Close, but no cigar Summary: 2 Stars
I was impressed with the reports from other people about what this product could do, and thought that this might be the solution to my situation.
The package arrived fairly quickly, and I hooked it up in no time, getting audio, video and IR remote control up and running in only a few minutes, so I was starting to feel pretty good. There was a fair amount of interference on the audio/video and the IR signal was very intermittent, but I had not really set the system up yet so wasn't worried yet - I should have been.
After trying everything to adjust positioning of both units to see if I could get better signals, I managed to find one place where audio and video had the least amount of noise, and were almost acceptable. Now all I had to do was find a way to make the remote control work consistently. Ultimately this proved impossible.
I contacted technical support for assistance. Sadly, none came.
Unfortunately I was only running the audio/video/IR signals around 20 feet from the source, through 2 walls and no significant metal or electrical objects.
I ended up sending the units back. I don't know whether I got two bad units or if these things just don't work as intended.
After shouting at the units for a few days, I realized it might be quicker running cables up through the crawl space for the audio/video signals, leaving just the IR remote control signal to worry about. A quick trip to Radio Shack later and a venture up to the dark and dusty void above proved that the signals were better than those transmitted over the RF Link. Now I just need to find somthing to extend my IR remote signals...
