We bought it, we fought it, we sent it back! It produced no email, only tension for our 84-year-old mom. Set-up instructions were inadequate (nothing in them about avoiding phone line splitters or extensions, so plan on your mom rearranging furniture before she can try it out). Customer Service people, whether friendly or, in one case, unforgivably rude, contradicted one another with "fixes." None of them could be tested until the machine's next call-up time, hours away. Why did they wait an entire day before telling us we could unplug it and wait 40 seconds to force an immediate call-in? (When that fix didn't work, the next rep said, "No, no, not 40 seconds, you have to wait 40 minutes."!) Why couldn't they at least manually reset the call-up times for ten-minute intervals to cut our mom's tense waiting periods? Why did it take until the next day for them to ask about a welcome packet (there was supposed to be one?), which the machine should have printed out if it worked? Customer Service had tools, however lame, to figure out immediately that the machine was faulty, and instead they made my mom and my sister try things and wait and wait and even implied that problems were their fault! Throughout this so-called troubleshooting, the online system that is supposed to let you monitor your loved one's mailbox gave me false information ("It's cover is off!"--it wasn't. "Email was delivered!"--it wasn't, ever: "It's ready to receive!"--no, it was back in a box!) False status reports could be dangerous with an elderly relative. We told Presto we were sending the machine back. My sister had to guess at the return address--their packaging and their website (surprise) were inconsistent. Days later I got email saying there was no activity on our mom's mailbox and we should find out why! My VISA was charged for a year's service eight days after we'd cancelled. Maybe Billing gets account status updates via a Presto machine. Three days later they reversed that charge on their own, but (surprise) not all of it. Were they prorating? When I pointedly ended my query about the VISA charge with a comment that my Amazon review was pending, Presto promptly reversed all charges, refunded the shipping and handling fee, apologized for "our challenges" in setting up the machine, and said it is "reviewing its troubleshooting procedures." Good for them? I say, good for Amazon's customer reviews. On the positive side, they fired the rude service rep. Conclusion: the idea is ready to fly, but the company, the online monitoring, and customer service are in the larval stage.
